What is the (DL) Program? – Society dependent– A personal visit to a Chapter

from a “distinguished lecturer”– Offered by some Societies/Councils

The Benefits– Outstanding technical content at a meeting– Opportunity to expand the Chapter– Networking with Distinguished Lecturers.

They are under no obligation to create anew talk to meet the interests of the audience

To fit within the travelreimbursement maximum, visits to neighboring chapters may be arranged

Some wonderful and famous scientists may be available to visit your Chapter

Their talks and their presence may help energize the Chapter meetings and invigorate the Chapter

A sponsoring Society may pay for this!

There may also be Society funding for:– other speakers– refreshments– other

But, you have some work to do

Work with existing Society relationships– no Society likely to fund another’s DL

Select DL talks carefully to fit the interests of your Chapter; level-setting with the speaker may improve the fit

If the travel is expensive, you may needto arrange a multi-chapter visit toreduce the per-Chapter expense

Stay active in the view of that/those Societies with which you have relationships

– make your interests known,especially as they relate to practitioners

Consider being a joint Chapter– which increases your opportunities– many Society Fields of Interest may

overlap with your interests
