Sunday WORSHIP SERVICE:
9:30 AM
Joint Sunday School:
(all ages)
11:00 AM (after Coffee
Hour)
Fall greetings in the name of Jesus Christ
our Lord. Those of you who have moved
frequently understand that change is
necessary or inevitable. And those of you
who are in retirement have experienced
much change as well. Seasons change, and
so do our lives. There are many things in
life that change. Human growth and
development is a necessary change. In the
same way, the Church, a living organism,
experiences natural change all the time.
I understand that change is uncomfortable
for many of us. In my lifetime, I have
moved more than twenty-five times. Also,
in my pastoral itinerancy, Albright is my
sixth pastoral charge. We both experi-
enced change when the Bishop appointed
me to be your pastor. Albright and New
Hope both experienced change when the
Bishop appointed Albright and New Hope
to become a two-point charge. I am
certain that both congregations experi-
enced some pain in that. But I am also
certain that there’s excitement and bless-
ing in this pastoral change and in the
cooperative that Albright and New Hope
are in right now.
God is doing great things with this
change. There are things that we don’t ask
for in our lives, but we are given. Some-
times, they are good and sometimes not so
good. But whatever the case, God will
help us sort it through. I was so thrilled on
Rally Day, that Albright and New Hope
are finally having joint Sunday School,
from nursery all the way to retirement.
That’s what God wants us to do, to live in
harmony and to be in ministry together. I
don’t know what you make of it, but I see
heaven on earth, when I see Albright and
New Hope doing ministry together. To see
kids of different ethnic backgrounds in
church together, learning about our God,
and to see teachers from different ethnic
backgrounds teaching Sunday school
together, is like I have died and gone to
heaven. I have heard it said, that Sunday
morning at 11:00 AM is the most segre-
gated hour, of the week, but that is not true
at Albright. Amen!
Thanks to the Children’s Ministry Team
at Albright and New Hope, led by Liz
Cannon and May Her-Yang and the Adult
Sunday School teachers who serve our
God with gratitude. \This is what our
Joint Sunday School looks like:

wonderful job at it, New Hope will help with more
snacks and join with Albright in preparing the snacks.
Thank you for all committee chairs, committee members,
who serve the Lord at Albright. And thank you everyone
at Albright who continue to bless the church with your
time, tithes, and talents. Thank you for giving to the
Lord! He knows who you are and will bless you
richly. One day he will say to you, “Well done, my good
and faithful servant. Come into my everlasting home and
enjoy the fruits of your labor.”
God will continue to do great things through us as
we allow him to work through our lives to touch
others. Keep on doing good to others and inviting
them to church to experience the love and joy
which we experience from our Father. God has a
lot more in store for us as we minister to people in
our congregation, our communities, in our city,
and in this world.

If you have picked up you newsletter today, you are
well-aware that we celebrated World Communion
Sunday today. Here is a little background on this
special celebration:
+ “World Communion Sunday is a celebration observed
by several Christian denominations, taking place on the
first Sunday of every October, that promotes Christian
unity and ecumenical cooperation. The tradition [that]
originated in the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in
1933, was adopted throughout the US Presbyterian
Church in 1936, and subsequently spread to other
denominations. In 1940, the Federal Council of
Churches (now the National Council of Churches), led
by Jesse Moren Bader, endorsed World Communion
Sunday and began to promote it to Christian churches
worldwide.”

October 8 is " officially" National Depression
Screening Day. Sounds like a real bummer, and,
actually, it is. Depression is, according to the
World Health Organization, projected to become
the second leading contributor to the global burden
of disease by 2020. Take a good look around you.
The odds are that someone very close to you right
this minute is suffering from some level of depres-
sion. After all, according to the Centers for Disease
Control, 1 in 10 adults report some level of depres-
sion. Notice that I said "report." Not all cases are
reported. Some people continue to view depression
as a fault or a failing. And not being treated can
lead to bigger problems. And that is what prompted
the very first National Depression Screening Day.
Held annually dur ing Mental Illness Awareness
Week in October, National Depression Screening
Day (NDSD) is comprised of awareness events that
include an optional screening component.
National Depression Screening Day began as an
effort to reach individuals across the nation with
important mental health education and connect
them with support services. Screening for Mental
Health (SMH) pioneered National Depression
Screening Day as the first, voluntary, mental health
screening initiative in 1990.
Twenty-five years later, NDSD has expanded to
thousands of colleges, community-based organiza-
tions, and military installations providing the pro-
gram to the public each year.
With National Depression Screening Day®
approaching, here are some cold, hard facts about
depression:
One-third of individuals with a chronic illness
experience symptoms of depression
One in five 18 to 25 year olds experienced a
mental illness in the past year
According to the World Health Organization,
depression is projected to become the second lead-
ing contributor to the global burden of disease by
2020
An Estimated 1 in 10 U.S. Adults Report
Depression (CDC)
Depression is a common mental disorder.
Globally, more than 350 million people of all ages
suffer from depression. (WHO)
Up to 80 percent of those treated for depression
show an improvement in their symptoms generally
within four to six weeks of beginning treatment.
(NIH)
Depression is more common than AIDS, cancer,
and diabetes combined
Depression is a prevalent and increasingly recog-
nized risk factor for both the development of and the
outcome from coronary artery disease (CAD).
(National Institute of Health)
People with depression are 4 times as likely to
develop a heart attack than those without the illness.
Many conditions may coexist with depression.
Depression may increase the risk for another illness,
and dealing with an illness may lead to depression. In
fact, according to the NIMH, depression affects:
More than 40 percent of those with post-
traumatic stress disorder
25 percent of those who have cancer
27 percent of those with substance abuse prob-
lems
50 percent of those with Parkinson's disease
50 to 75 percent of those who have an eating dis-
order
33 percent of those who've had a heart attack
Not sure if you or someone you love could have a
mild form of depression rather than just "the blah's,"
take am anonymous screening at
www.HelpYourselfHelpOthers.org. No matter what
you find out, remember that God and we here at
Albright still love you. Together let's work it out.

Heal Me, Hands of Jesus
Heal me, hands of Jesus, and search out all my pain;
restore my hope, remove my fear, and bring me peace again.
Cleanse me, blood of Jesus, take bitterness away;
let me forgive as one forgiven and bring me peace today.
Know me, mind of Jesus, and show me all my sin;
dispel the memories of guilt and bring me peace within.
Fill me, joy of Jesus; anxiety shall cease,
and heaven's serenity be mine, for Jesus brings me peace!
