16 February 2016 Re: Regulation of Agriculture Productivity Commission Growcom, as the peak industry body for horticulture in Queensland, would like support the comprehensive submission made by the Voice of Horticulture (VOH). We provided significant input into the submission and as such it is an accurate representation of the perspective of our growers. Consultation with individual growers has consistently identified the red-tape around labour as their number one issue. Other issues mentioned by growers include water regulations and the burden of duplicative or sometimes conflicting regulation between levels of government. In particular there is considered to be a lack of understanding about the nature of horticulture by many local governments which are exacerbating peri-urban land use conflict and preventing economic development in key horticultural growing areas.
