THE RECORD May 2018 VOLUME 57

Did that title catch your eye? We think of Merry Christmas but what about Easter? Shouldn’t Easter be a celebration of even greater JOY and EXCITEMENT than Christmas? For without Easter doesn’t Christmas lose its specialness? Lots of questions for you to consider. Yes, the event of Christ’s birth into this world is to be celebrated. But, what we celebrate is why He came. He came to this world to save us from our sins. He came to live the perfect life that we never would be able to. He came to suffer the punishment and death that we deserved. So yes, Easter should be celebrated even more than Christmas. Easter and the resurrection of Jesus from the dead changes EVERYTHING! No longer do sin, death, and the devil need to cause us fear and anxiety. Jesus has defeated all three by His sacrificial death to pay the price of ALL our sins and His glorious resurrection to conquer eternal death and damnation. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is an awesome miracle that will never be exceeded or topped in its greatness. However, there are two awesome miracles that Jesus resurrection makes possible for our lives

1. Our sins are forgiven – ALL of them! 2. The gates of heaven have been opened for us: ETERNAL LIFE with GOD!

So Merry Easter! Joyous Easter! Blessed Easter! Because He is risen we have “New life in Christ Everyday”! He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! DCE Mark Noennig

“Merry Easter”?

THE RECORD May 2018 VOLUME 57

Greetings,

On the route between my motel and the Church I drive by and cross the river. I have driven over the river many times and each time I do, I notice the crooks and bends, the river bank and the shrubs and trees growing along the edge. What I see is a river that is the same all the time. Nothing changes.

So it is in the Church. When we are part of the Church, especially our Church we believe and with a good amount of certainty that it will be the same every time we come here. The building will still be the same, the parking lot and surrounding terrain will be recognizable. As we participate in our Church we can be reasonably sure that our experiences will not be too far out of the ordinary, i.e. the order in which we do things will be recognizable, we perceive that the events of the day will unfold according to the sequence that are necessary for the flow of what is going on at a given function. This is especially true when we come to the Church for a time of worship, things should happen as they do so we can participate and be fed the Word and thus grow in our faith in Christ and in relationship with one another to include those who are both new and old to our Church. It is reasonable for us to consider our Church and expect that nothing changes.

This morning (April 18) as I drove from the motel to the Church as I came to the section of the river in the low area by the VA Hospital the river was expanding precariously close to the edge of the road. In fact if we were to experience a sudden warm spell and the snow melted in short order the river easily could overtake the road and flood it. This got me to thinking although I have observed the river many times and the river itself shows me a new and different river every time I pass by. Everything changes!

So it is with the Church. In the short time I have been with you fine folks at Our Redeemer I have learned that your Church has been blessed with a reasonable consistency for several years (nothing changes). Pastor Noennig became the constancy through whom the staff of the congregation, the various elected and auxiliary boards, committees, and groups operated. At the same time I have learned that there was a great deal of flux in the operation of the Church. Over the years you have been blessed with having been served by several DCEs, called pastors, retired pastors, office personal to say nothing of the fine folks who have been elected or volunteered in the operation of Our Redeemer. In this respect, although pretty much unseen, everything changes. Pastor Noennig, to the heartbreak of everyone in this Church, retired last year. As much as you would like to see happen there will never be another Pastor Bruce Noennig. Everything changes!

Over the course of time the leaders of Our Redeemer have come to the decision to reach out through President Fondow for help in your time of the ebb and flow (like the river) of transition who in turn contacted me. By invitation I met with some of the leaders then with as many members of Our Redeemer as were able to come for an open forum, finally by a decision through you yourselves, you asked me to come and work with you as an Interim/vacancy pastor until such time as you are blessed with a regular called pastor for the long term. I am honored and privileged to work among you and help in ways I can during this exciting and uncertain time. As you observe, interact, and learn I pray that you will come to understand that like in the river, so also in Our Redeemer, nothing changes / everything changes. In this respect I hope that my time with you will be as exiting and peaceful as our dear Lord has put His Church on earth to be.

When I am here at the Church, every Tues. and Wed. of course Sundays, I want you to know that my door is open and I look forward to getting to meet and know you.

Blessings, Pastor Rehborg

Bring it home This Fall there will be a new opportunity for families to get into reading the Bible. Our Minnesota North District has an exciting new program called “Bring It Home”. This program is designed to give families an opportunity to read five “Great Stories of the Bible” each week at home.

You can sign up for this program by clicking on the “Bring It Home” icon on the MN North website. The website is: www.mnnlcms.org.

Then you can read five stories a week from the Bible in your Bible at home or by purchasing one of the following Bible Story book.

For younger children “The Story Bible” (a $30 value which will cost you just $10)

For older children “Know the Bible Now” (a $20 value which will cost you just $8)

We plan to purchase a number of these books to have available here at Our Redeemer for you to purchase. For more information talk to DCE Emily or DCE Mark. humor A fisherman had two sons named Toward and Away. Every day he would go fishing and return late at night, always talking about the giant fish he had almost caught. One day he took Toward & Away fishing with him. That night he returned home more excited than ever. “Sally,” he yelled to his wife, “you should have seen the fish I saw today. A tremendous gray fish, ten feet long with horns and fur all over its back. It had legs like a caterpillar. It came crawling out of the water, snatched our son Toward, and swallowed him in one gulp!” “Good gracious!” exclaimed his wife. “That’s horrible!” “Oh, that was nothing,” said her husband. “You should have seen the one that got Away!”

Servant event On Saturday, May 5th beginning in the morning the Board of Servant Ministry is sponsoring a “stain the fence” event at the Gladys Ray Shelter 1519 1st Ave S in Fargo. For more information on this event please contact Becky Schmitz. THE RECORD May 2018 VOLUME 57

She had nurtured us before our birth Long before we were born here on earth. As infants, we were not yet aware Of her sacrifices and tender care. Through our childhood and our adolescence We experienced her ever-loving presence. She attended to our physical needs In spite of our rebellious deeds. She brought us up in fear of the Lord Instilling in us a love for His Word And in a gentle but very firm way Guided our footsteps toward Him each day. Through sickness she nursed us back to health Giving no thought to comfort or wealth. Through inconvenience and self-denial She helped us to weather many a trial.

As we reflect on memories so fond Of the mothers who since have gone beyond, Let us thank our Lord that by His grace In heaven, they now have a special place. God grant that every sister and brother Who are still fortunate to have their mother, May respect and honor her every day Not only on a special day in May.

Happy Mother’s Day! Sunday, May 13th!

Message from the Board We are happy to announce the CCC has an Administration Coordinator! The Administration Coordinator will have many of the same functions as our previous assistant director role. Shane Richau began his role as administration coordinator on April 10th. He will also continue to be a guiding hand in his previous role as Pre-k Lead teacher until most of his children transition to the school age program the first of June. Through an extensive interview process, Shane proved his previous knowledge of the center and staff along with eagerness to learn and take on new business duties. These qualities are what made him the best candidate for the position. Shane has been with us for 3 ½ years, his passion and drive are contagious. His commitment to the children, families, staff and overall center's growth is sincere. Please congratulate Shane when you see him!

• The CCC Board meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the ORLC College room. Meetings are and have always been open to whoever would like to attend and listen; however, this probably has not been made clear or advertised well in the past. There is a process to go through if a non-voting member would like to speak. It is as follows: Parents, staff, or church members wishing to address an item to the CCC Board should contact the board chair or secretary by the Wednesday prior to the meeting in writing, stating who they are and what they would like to address. The item will then be added to the agenda. The board may conduct business at the end of the meeting that needs to stay confidential. At that time, non-voting members will be asked to leave (with the exception of the administrative coordinator).

Message from the CCC

God is so good! We are truly blessed to have such wonderful families at the center and support from our church congregation family! A huge thank you to all who donated, provided a helping hand, participated in fellowship and generously gave funds at our Annual Spring Fling and CCC Sunday.

We are another step closer to getting the School Age Playground fully funded. Please come check out our communications board across from the parent mailboxes on the lower level. This is a great way for everyone to see what is going on at the center, past board minutes and contacts, where help is needed and to learn more about Early Childhood Education.

We currently have openings in our Summer School Age program and Fall Preschool program. Please spread the word to friends and family. If you would like more details, check out our website (which is connected to the church’s), grab a Preschool brochure in the church office, or stop into the CCC and visit with Sarah or Shane.

Monday May 14th we will be hosting our annual for our families at the center!

Our center wide staff development day will be Friday May 25th. The CCC is closed on this day.

Gracious & Loving Father, You have created each of us, and have given us this great gift of life. Help us to treasure each moment, the happy ones and the sad ones, the healthy ones and the weak ones. When our lives are running smoothly, help us to turn to You in thanksgiving and praise. When our lives are in turmoil, help us turn to You for comfort and strength. By Your Word, assure us of Your loving presence in our daily lives. Keep us ever mindful of Your loving promise to always be with us. We pray now for these fellow members of Our Redeemer:

May 6 "Love One Another as I Have Loved You" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer Jesus calls His followers to be different as they deal with difficult people (John 15:9-17) May 13 "Keep Them" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus There are times Christians might readily wish the Lord would airlift them out of this world. Because we have some work to do, the Lord Jesus prays we be kept safe. So, how's that working for you? (John 17:14-17) May 20 "Functional Atheist No More!" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer Christians like to think of themselves as following the first disciples. That's uncomfortably true. The first disciples had trouble believing the promises of Jesus for their daily lives. Too often we do too. On Pentecost the Spirit of the risen Lord Jesus gave the first disciples faith like they had never had before. Today the same Spirit is ready to do the same for us. (Acts 2:1-21; John 15:26-27) May 27 "Impossible" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus Can death hold us? Experience says, "Yes!"' the Apostle Peter says, "No." Today's sermon talks about making possible that which can't happen. (Acts 2:22-24)

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

Prayer brings people together. Prayer builds bridges between opposing persons and even political parties. Prayer reminds us that we are created in God's image and He desires for us to represent Him everywhere we go. Prayer brings UNITY. In 2018, our theme will be Pray for America - UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, "Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."

It is the hope that we, the people in America, will humble ourselves and come together in prevailing prayer seeking God to move in America. We can come together in clear agreement that this is our greatest need. As Americans we can stand together in prayer.

National Day of Prayer Breakfast will be held on Thursday, May 3, at 6:30 AM in the College Room. The prayer time is reading Scripture and written prayers.
