Grotius College is a combined secondary school which offers a wide range of options for pupils with very different abilities and interests.

Types of educations are:

1.pre-vocational secondary education (vmbo)

2.senior general secondary education (havo)

3.pre-university education (vwo/gymnasium)


• All 3 types of secondary education are for children aged 12 years and over.

• All pupils start on a level which has been advised by their primary school

• All pupils start (on their level) with a period of 2 years “basic secondary education”


Our school has 2 locations:

• One for pre-vocational education and special practical

education (loc. Bleyswijckstraat) We represent this location.

• One for senior general education and pre-university

education ( loc. Juniusstraat) (also including the theoretical program of the VMBO).

• Our school is a public – authority school which means that it is run by the municipal council .

• The school is open to pupils of all religious and social backgrounds and beliefs.

• We have pupils of over 20 different countries , we are a multi-cultural school.

This type of education consists of four learning pathways :

2 The combined programme

3 The middle management /vocational programme

4 The basic vocational programme


Within each programme there are four sectors which are divided into specialist departments, out of which our pupils can choose after 2 years of basic secondary education:

1 Technics: Building, electric, metal

2 Business: clerical work, catering

3 Care and welfare

4 ICT
