Ukulele Day with Sara Spade Friday 7 July

Jools Holland says: “She has a fantastic voice - her band makes me want to dance… they have that magical element which is almost impossible to put your finger on!” With her ebullient blend of vintage ukulele jazz and blues-infused Retro-Pop Swing originals, Sara’s music breaks boundaries. She has been played on BBC Radio 2 and has even converted a younger audience via Bestival director DJ Rob da Bank.

The band has a residency at London’s darkest smokey-jazz dive ‘Boisdale of Belgravia,’ and has toured the UK & Germany where she has a surprise following of fanatical fans. Setting her own songs next to Charlestones like “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue”, jazz versions of “It Must Be Love” and heart-melting ballads like “Secret Love”, Sara Spade delivers a cracking performance with Jonny Gee on bass & Jonny Mattock on snare drum - just check out the live videos on her website. To quote BBC Radio London’s Larry Pryce, Sara is “Simply irresistible…a special one-off talent.” www.SaraSpade.com

FILM FESTIVAL

OPENING NIGHT FRIDAY 7 JULYLa La Land (12) 7 JULY La La Land swept the board this award season, taking the mantle of best musical in twenty years. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling whisk us into a love story that’s both sweet and sad, lived out in an array of impressive song and dance numbers.

Casablanca (U) 13 JULY Oscar-winning (Best Film) Casablanca is full of mystery, romance and intrigue. Nothing tops Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman’s chemistry in this wartime weepy - except maybe the exoticism of Casablanca itself.

Psycho (15) 14 JULY The mother of modern suspense films, Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest masterpiece revolutionised the genre and left a lasting mark on pop culture. Psycho twists and turns down a dark path taking you far from its original course to somewhere much more terrifying, the Bates’ Motel.

Top Gun (12) 19 JULY The film that shot Tom Cruise, and its late, great director, Tony Scott, into the Hollywood Blockbuster fast lane. Cruise was the hunky heart-throb who took our breath away, sweeping Kelly McGillis off her feet in this stalwart of 80s cinema. Gather your wingmen, wingwomen and wing cadets for this jet-fuelled favourite.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid (PG) 20 JULY A new kind of Western, this reinvented the West as the place we all wanted it to be. Paul Newman and Robert Redford create two of the most lovable anti-heroes of all time. These outlaws who rob trains are being hunted down and escape to a new life in Bolivia.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12) 21 JULY Rogue One is the ultimate Star Wars fan film, but also works as a stand-alone adventure story for Star Wars newbies. Felicity Jones leads a posse of plucky fighters on a mission to destroy the Dark Side’s super weapon, the Death Star, which has the Rebellion quaking in their boots.

Living Communities FundAs part of Grosvenor’s long term commitment to the communities in and around our London estate, we are working with London Community Foundation to provide grant funding to local groups, through our Living Communities Fund. The aim of the fund is to support small charities and grass roots community groups to see the lives of people living and working in the South Westminster area improved through community-building activities. In 2017 we are encouraging applications which promote social cohesion and support personal development of young people and their futures, creating a legacy that reflects our long term commitment to social change. About GrosvenorCharities

Octavia FoundationGrosvenor is delighted to be working with the Octavia Foundation in two capacities at this year’s Summer in the Square – for the Tea Dance, and through Base@TheRiver.

The Octavia Foundation: connects people affected by unemployment, ill health, social isolation or low incomes in central and west London with opportunities for positive personal change. Their vision is to build stronger, happier and healthier communities to help create an enriched life where we live. One of the areas they deliver services in is through care and support for older and vulnerable people and this is where we team up for the Tea Dance.

Base@theriver: Also part of the Octavia Foundation, the club will be showcasing some of their digital media activities in The Nook. The club is centrally located in Pimlico, in a fantastic building right on the banks of the Thames and has excellent transport links. Whilst the Octavia Foundation provides a range of activities for young people, our emphasis at Base@theRiver is to create a user-curated programme of creative events & sessions. The aim is for our young people to learn exciting new skills, make new friends and, most importantly, have fun!

ETATJoining us to exhibit and conduct art demonstrations on Arts Day in The Nook, E.T.A.T. (Encouragement Through the Arts and Talking) was the brainchild of Dr Mary Catteral whose vision it was to set up a group for isolated lonely people who would be encouraged to be creative and share skills.
