BMS Deployment and Adoption
Presented at the GCP General Research Meeting by Graham McLaren
Date Tuesday 7th October 2014, Rayong, Thailand.
A pathway to successful adoption of the Breeding Management System
An initiative of the CGIAR Generation Challenge Programme (GCP)
Support for Deployment Regional Hubs

Regional Hubs
GCP to support placement of staff with larger institutes to catalyze the uptake and use of BMS and support services Technical support coordinator Capacity building coordinator Breeding coordinator
Reach beyond users in institute to networks of partners and eventually other potential clients (including SME’s)
Title of presentation/Author
Development of hub networks Take advantage of well established large
institutes in the regions to drive adoption and dissemination of BMS On the ground and easily accessible for
regional users Know the landscape (ag research,
probably already have good established working relationships) If large institutes implement others will
follow. Have influence Title of presentation/Author

Assess the feasibility of adopting BMS Build an implementation team Develop an implementation plan Verify the plan and resources Setup customized program resources Deploy BMS in day to day operations
Six steps to adoption

Do we need BMS? Short and long term objectives of adopting What resources do we have available? Gather baseline data

IBP Phase II targets implementation in eight institutional breeding programs per year. In addition we would like to implement
BMS in several small scale breeding enterprises each year. If your program or partners are ready to
adopt BMS please come and discuss timing and process with Graham and Arllet.
