STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Budget: $250K/yr
Staff: 7 people, only two are full time Maureen Bookwalter and Adam Lieberg
Main Projects in 2009:
Plum Creek Lands/Montana Legacy Project (see above)
FS Projects – Lead multiparty monitoring team on the F.S. Holland-Pierce Hazardous Fuels project.
Hiring and training local residents for several widlife/habitat monitoring projects
Identifying critical wildlife crossings on the highway
Collecting grizzly hair for DNA project that tracks population trends
Track surveys for rare carnivores
Mapping restoration priorities for TNC, FS and MT DNRC
Teaching field courses for university students from around the country
Landscape and Livelihood – 8 week field semester through University of MT
Wildlife in the West – 4 week field semester
other shorter courses….
Swan Valley Bear Resources – a local response team to grizzly bear conflicts….lots of work right now to help local livestock owners build predator proof fencing….
