ARE ALL ANSIPUMPS THE SAME?In 1977, the American NationalStandards Institute (ANSI) estab-lished manufacturing criteria forcentrifugal pumps to ensure thatdimensional, material compositionand safety specifications meet thedemanding needs of the chemicalprocessing industry. Mandatorydesign features, such as self-venti-lation, foot mounting, centerlinedischarge and back pullout, became the industry’s assurancethat complying pumps met pro-duction and safety needs.

Even though ANSI compliancewould seem to level the playingfield for pump specification, yourchoices are actually far more com-plex. The fact is that many brandsjust meet the minimal requirementsof this standard. And while otherbrands may offer similar featuresand performance, you may experi-ence inflated cost, delayed delivery, and deflated service. In a marketwhere all ANSI pumps seem thesame, dare to compare.

WHAT DRIVES YOUR PUMPSELECTION PROCESS?In a rapidly changing world market, there’s no longer room formaking business decisions based on convention or costly oldrelationships. Every angle must be scrutinized to give your production process the edge needed to survive economicvolatility and polarized competition.

Maximizing production and minimizing costs are as much func-tions of equipment performance as initial and long-term costsof operating and maintaining equipment. Most importantly, you must minimize the time and financial losses caused by pro-duction failures. As a result, pump specification must meeteven more demanding criteria than ANSI compliance:

1 Proven track record of performance

2 Extended equipment life

3 Reduced initial cost and total cost of ownership

4 Speed and ease of repair or replacement

Dare to compare your ANSI pump. In a world where you needevery advantage—we’re confident you’ll choose Griswold.

INCREASED CAPABILITYFOR REDUCED VOLUMESStandard ANSI pumps (with expandingstyle volute casing) are not designed forlow flow, high head applications: theexcessive radial loads and shaft vibrationexperienced can shorten bearing and seallife. Griswold’s Model 811LF series isdesigned with a circular concentric cas-ing in conjunction with a radial vaneimpeller to reduce those excessive radialloads and minimize shaft deflection, thusextending MTBPM.

1The fully machined concentric volute reduces exces-sive radial loads experienced in low flow, high headapplications. Shaft vibration and deflection is mini-mized, extending bearing and mechanical seal life.

Class 150 raised face flanges are standardwith the Model 811LF series for positive seal-ing. Class 300 raised face flanges are availableas an option.

CIRCULAR CONCENTRICVOLUTE CASING:

2LOW FLOW RADIALVANE IMPELLER:Griswold’s radial vane impellers are speciallydesigned to reduce the thrust load and sealchamber pressure normally associated withlow flow applications. When operating inreduced volume conditions, the low flowimpeller’s vanes provide better hydraulic con-trol than traditional ANSI impellers. Balanceholes reduce both axial thrust and seal cham-ber pressure, extending bearing and seal life.

FOR LOW FLOWSL O W F L O W S E R V I C E S .

4RETROFITTING:Griswold Model 811LF pumps are ANSI dimensional,so they can be installed without piping or base changesto existing equipment. In fact, since all other parts andfeatures are identical/interchangeable within the entire811 ANSI line, the 811LF case and impeller can be easily retrofitted to an existing Griswold pump as wellas 100,000s of other ANSI pumps already in service!

3811LF PERFORMANCE:With a traditional ANSI pump, throttling or recirculat-ing flow to attain low flow conditions causes excessiveradial load and shaft deflection—all of which can resultin premature failure to bearings and mechanical seals.

Griswold 811LF pumps feature flow capacities as lowas 4 GPM, and heads as high as 920'—low flow/highhead performance you can count on to further extendyour MTBPM.

2FULLY OPEN IMPELLER:• Ideally Suited for Chemical Process Industry Applications. Because it

has two times the area in the critical casing and stuffing box/seal chamberclearances, Griswold’s Open Impeller is far superior to its typical enclosedcounterpart. Our open design minimizes concentrated wear by balancinghydraulic axial thrust load and reducing stuffing box pressure. This not onlyfacilitates corrosive, abrasive, solid and stringy fiber handling, but also sim-plifies maintenance, extends life and reduces repair costs.

• Self-Tightening to Reduce Leaks and Failures. Our impeller design is further enhancedby threading on the shaft and sealing through a controlled squeeze contained o-ring to elim-

inate bolt loosening with system changes or high temperatures. Metal-to-metal contactensures optimal running and transmittal of torque and alignment. Because we eliminate

the impeller bolt, we also eliminate corrosion or gasket leakage, ensuring that smoothentrance contour and lower NPSH requirements are realized.

• External Clearance Adjustment. Peak efficiency is ensured through simple main-tenance to account for wear area loss. Adjustment is quick and easy to set at the site withan ordinary open-end wrench–no shims or shop maintenance needed, as with enclosedimpellers. The external clearance adjustment moves the impeller forward to reestab-lish original clearance and hydraulic pressure without disassembly or replacementof wear rings.

• Back Pump-Out Vanes reduce pressure on the shaft seal and axial thrust onthe bearings. Maintenance is further simplified–extending bearing life, seal lifeand performance.

• Investment Cast Impellers. Ultra-smooth, consistently cast investment impellers arestandard on Stainless Steel, CD4MCu and Alloy 20, and optional on Ductile Iron pumps.

This feature improves hydraulic and mechanical balance, maximizes seal and bearing lifeand improves efficiency.
