Round beams in the carpark presented a challenge but Gripple

offered an innovative solution for the suspension of lights.

The carpark at Dubai’s new Design District (D3) presented a number of challenges when

planning the suspension of lights.

The beams from which they were to be suspended were round, and the design of the

carpark meant that the fixings needed to provide rigidity against the wind.

Gripple’s Universal Clamp with an M8 Adaptor was chosen at the most suitable system for

this project, allowing the challenges to be overcome.

finish the job on time at the new IKEA Distribution Centre.

Gripple has been used on IKEA’s new distribution centre at the logistics district in Dubai

World Central (DWC). The warehouse is IKEA’s largest in the Middle East.

The lighting needed to be

installed with long drops which

would have required multiple

rigid supports if the traditional

method was used. Due to the

long drop lengths, this could

have resulted in supports that

were unstable or bent.

Using Gripple, the contractor

needed 12,000 supports to

hang 6,000 lights in the

warehouse. We provided a

solution with single length wires

(HF1 with a M6 Stud) which not

only overcame the challenge,

but reduced the installation

time.

Majid Al Futtaim Villa is a luxury 2 storey residential villa and majlis

in Dubai, UAE.

Gripple was used to suspend lighting in this luxury villa. Due to the glass roof, there were

no hanging points therefore the Catenary and C-Clip system was chosen as the most

suitable solution. This allowed support to be taken from the walls and the lights to be

suspended from the wire spanning across the space.

The mall has a steel structure, which meant that there was limited space to hang

The Mirdif Lifestyle park is a mixed-use commercial building in Dubai. It has five units for food and beverage outlets, 28 shops including clinics and barber shops as well as other commercial units. The G+2 building also has two basements for parking, plus a plant room.

Gripple products were used on this project to install the HVAC ducting, which is Spiralite® ducting imported from the UK; another new product for the UAE market.

The Gripple wire hanging system allowed the ducting to be installed quicker than traditional methods. Whereas threaded rod would have required the drilling of two drill holes per suspension, with Gripple just one hole was required. This meant that the MEP contractor was able to install the ducting in half the time when compared with traditional methods.

The Opus by Omniyat is a prestigious development in downtown Dubai in the heart of the Burj Khalifa district. Designed by the late world-famous architect Dame Zaha Hadid, it is a mixed-use building containing six basement levels of parking, a design hotel, private apartments and office accommodation. Gripple’s wire suspension products were used to install the lighting in the carpark of the building.

Due to the open ceiling, a solution was needed that would work well with the other building services that were being installed, and it also needed to be aesthetically pleasing. In addition, it was necessary that the solution was adjustable due to minimum height required for clearance above the cars using the carpark.

Gripple Hangfast No. 1 with M6 stud was chosen as the most suitable solution. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, it offered flexibility over traditional installation solutions, as the height of the lights could be adjusted easily. The wire suspensions could also fit easily around other building services.

Gripple’s distributor in UAE, SentorElectrical, provided training on-site for the first installation and were available to offer site support throughout the project, although the contractor, Haydon MEP, experienced no issues during installation after the initial training.

The two main benefits Haydon MEP saw by using Gripple on this project were the improved speed of installation compared to traditional methods, and the fact the system is user friendly, so it was quick for the contractors to learn how to use. Compared to traditional threaded rod solutions, which need to be cut, filed and painted, Gripple is just one ready-to-use system meaning fewer components and tools are required.

John Palmer, Project Manager Haydon MEP commented that although the material cost of Gripple can be higher than traditional threaded rod, the significantly reduced installation time on-site outweighs this cost.

In addition to The Opus project, Haydon MEP has used Gripple on further projects to install other services including ductwork and modules.
