BOOK CLUB

Thursday, September 27 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm The Night Circus By: Erin Morgenstern Thursday October 25 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm The Coincidence of Coconut Cake By: Amy E. Reichert Thursday November 30 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Caleb’s Crossing By : Geraldine Brooks

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amaze-ments. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

Once again, Geraldine Brooks takes a remarkable shard of history and brings it to vivid life. In 1665, a young man from Martha's Vineyard became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. Upon this slender factual scaffold, Brooks has created a luminous tale of love and faith, magic and adventure.

REVISITING THE FOUNDING ERA

You’ve Got Mail meets How to Eat a Cupcake in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurant—whose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities. Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, this book is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.

We are pleased to announce that the Griffin-Spalding County Library has been awarded a Revisiting the Founding Era grant to implement public programming and community conversations that explore Ameri-ca’s founding. The grant provides us the opportunity to use historical documents to spark public conver-sations about the Founding Era’s enduring ideas and themes and how they continue to influence our lives today. Resources through this grant will allow the Library to provide free public programs, and one especially geared towards students. Programs will be scheduled during January - March, 2019. Program details and dates will be announced soon. Revisiting the Founding Era is a three-year national initiative of The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, presented in partnership with the American Library Association and the National Constitution Cen-ter, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
