Ranger® GRIDS

OVERVIEW

Rough terrain and foliage can cause coverage “gaps” in surveillance systems using ground-based radar and optical systems. Ranger® GRIDS is a low cost system designed to fill these gaps. Each Ranger GRIDS system consists of an array of very low power sensors set up along a border or around a perimeter. Multiple systems can be implemented to form a sensor barrier of any length.

Ranger GRIDS system sensors can be buried, leaving only a small camouflaged antenna above ground. Intruders are detected when they pass between adjacent sensors. Unattended, each sensor has a potential operational life of up to 6 years.

The system is relatively insensitive to small animals, thereby minimizing nuisance alarms. Automatic adjustment to changing environmental conditions (such as wind, rain, and foliage growth) prevents false alarms and the operating frequency is impervious to these environmental conditions. Built-in test features provide system health information and the ability to reprogram system parameters for optimal operation.

System sensors communicate with a nearby, unmanned Gateway that relays data to a manned location. Only the last sensor in the array must have access to the Gateway, leaving an unprecedented flexibility of placement for all other sensors in the array.

FEATURES

Detects vehicles and walking personnel in foliage, rough terrain, and all weather conditions

Provides a “gap filler” for wide area radars and optical sensors

May be used as a stand-alone intrusion detection system for border and/or perimeter defense

Multiple opportunities for intrusion detection with typical sensor array configuration

Redundant communication links in case of tampering and/or unit failure

GRIDS Control Panel (GCP) automatically re-establishes lost connections between the Gateway and the Server

Ultra low power design years of unattended operation

Able to network with other systems for an integrated command and control solution

Easily be networked into a larger security system of radars and optical sensors
