Introduction & Background

GRFU Strategic Plan 2014 - 2020

Rugby globally and in Ghana is currently experiencingunprecedentedgrowth, popularity and interest.

When the Herbert Mensah led administration took over the reigns of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) in June 2014 there was very little to build on after eleven years of misguided and visionless management.

The challenges facing the new administration were enormous and included a lot of zeros. Zero cash and zero funding infrastructure, zero nationalstruc ture, zeroleague women’s youth

rugbyandzero development

programmes.

Initial efforts focused on the development of a ten team national league, resurrection of women’s rugby and most importantly the establishment of a national sustainable youth development programme.

This Strategic Plan builds on

the foundation prescribed by the 2010 to 2020 World Rugby Strategic Plan.

As should be the case the, GRFU Strategic Plan spells out our vision and values, our goals and our strategies for achieving them and provides a roadmap leading up 2010 and beyond to grow the Ghana Rugby family beyond the traditional strongholds for the Sport.

It also focuses our activities and will help us make important investment decisions based onstra teg ic considerations, while ensuring that the Regional Associations can start to flourish and are able to provide the showcase that, in the long term, will benefit everyone in Rugby.

One thing is very clear and the GRFU is under no illusion about that. If the GRFU and the Rugby Family in Ghana can not resolve the challenge of funding, Rugby in Ghana will never realise its potential.
