All our mob pretty excited in 1967.They had a big vote all over Australia.

Aborigines became citizens of their own country.

Didnt have to carry round papers any more.Felt a bit funny at first.Sort of used to it.

Everyone thought they done a good thing.Like after 1962 when government said we could vote in W.A. If we wanted to.

But nothing much changed.

Ben still couldnt get a drink in the pub.We still living in a tin shed on the Reserve.

One cold tap we all shared on that Reserve. In summer shed got so hot might burn your fingers.

Better in tent.

“The Kodja Place was chosen for many reasons, but primarily because it represents-through terrific museum ‘best practice’ and a lot of hard work and imagination, the most remarkable effort by a regional community to tell a truthful, common story of its evolution.”

Jane Connors, Manager, ABC Radio National
