Ahoy Royal Capers: All the best for 2015! The days are just packed… Have you had a look at the sailing calendar for the next few months? We are in the privileged position of offering no less than two racing events every week, starting with yesterday’s Lufthansa Twilight Series, and running through all the way to mid-March, before some short respite. That is quite a formidable offering, with two Premier Regattas [Mid-Summer Fling and Mykonos Offshore], the weekly Wednesday Lufthansa Twilight Series, Harken Round Robben Island Race, RCYC Double Handed Series, and the Glacier by Sanlam Club Summer Series! Beautiful conditions embraced and welcomed 54 yachts to the new Lufthansa Twilight Series last night, and there was some very enjoyable sailing and close results across the board. Twilight sailing offers something special for a wide variety of sailing tastes, and it is interesting to observe trends across the different divisions. From a race management perspective, the next few months are crazy busy. If you feel you are in a position to volunteer time and expertise on the bridge team, as a mark layer, as a jury member, etc., Please put your hand up by contacting the sailing office. It is a lot of fun and spreading the load is important. On that count, our Sailing Administrator, Adrian Spencer-Jones, has resigned recently and will be relocating to London shortly. Adrian has done an amazing job across a wide variety of roles, and will be difficult to replace. However, if you [or anyone you know] have a keen interest in sailing, racing rules, ratings, race management, and are fluent in Excel, Word, DTP, and scoring, contact the sailing office for details of how to apply for this job! On club ratings, remember that if you have made any changes to your hull, rig, sails, propeller, displacement weight, keel, et al, you must declare these changes fully with a new ratings declaration. If you have any doubt, rather put in a new declaration than get caught out. The rating system is only as good as the information given, and the onus is on you to declare accurate and up-to-date information. It is the intention of the General Committee to ensure all yachts racing at RCYC have up-to-date declarations this season. More information on this is available under the sailing tab of the club website, including rating guidelines. Here’s to racing fast and sailing safely! Ahoy Royal Capers: All the best for 2015!

The days are just packed…

Have you had a look at the sailing calendar for the next few months?

We are in the privileged position of offering no less than two racing events every week, starting with yesterday’s

Lufthansa Twilight Series, and running through all the way to mid-March, before some short respite.

That is quite a formidable offering, with two Premier Regattas [Mid-Summer Fling and Mykonos Offshore], the

weekly Wednesday Lufthansa Twilight Series, Harken Round Robben Island Race, RCYC Double Handed Series, and

the Glacier by Sanlam Club Summer Series!

Beautiful conditions embraced and welcomed 54 yachts to the new Lufthansa Twilight Series last night, and there

was some very enjoyable sailing and close results across the board. Twilight sailing offers something special for a

wide variety of sailing tastes, and it is interesting to observe trends across the different divisions.

From a race management perspective, the next few months are crazy busy. If you feel you are in a position to

volunteer time and expertise on the bridge team, as a mark layer, as a jury member, etc., Please put your hand up

by contacting the sailing office. It is a lot of fun and spreading the load is important. On that count, our Sailing

Administrator, Adrian Spencer-Jones, has resigned recently and will be relocating to London shortly. Adrian has

done an amazing job across a wide variety of roles, and will be difficult to replace. However, if you [or anyone you

know] have a keen interest in sailing, racing rules, ratings, race management, and are fluent in Excel, Word, DTP,

and scoring, contact the sailing office for details of how to apply for this job!

On club ratings, remember that if you have made any changes to your hull, rig, sails, propeller, displacement

weight, keel, et al, you must declare these changes fully with a new ratings declaration. If you have any doubt,

rather put in a new declaration than get caught out. The rating system is only as good as the information given,

and the onus is on you to declare accurate and up-to-date information. It is the intention of the General

unannounced and without prior confirmation of time and space.

OUTSIDE HOUSE – NOTICE NEW ARRIVALS – BOOKING IN Members and visitors are reminded that any boat arriving for the 1

st time at the RCYC is required to call in at the

TWILIGHT RACING SERIES - IMPORTANT NOTICE

ALL Boat Owners/Skippers MUST sign in their guests for the Wednesday Evening Twilight Racing.

Please make use of our online registration on our

website (www.rcyc.co.za) to save time.

Herewith an Extract from an email received from Joel Chadwich, Assistant Event Manager for the World

Cruising Class, regarding the World ARC Rally that recently departed Cape Town.

Dear Michael & team,

Following a successful start on Saturday morning, the World ARC fleet are making good progress to St Helena before sailing

onwards to Brazil. We have had numerous comments about the hospitality received in Cape Town and that of the work done

at the RCYC. Despite the lack of wind, the start was enjoyed by all and a good spectacle. This said, I would like to thank you

on behalf of World Cruising Club and the fleet for another successful stopover for 2014/15.

I would also like to thank the RCYC and in particular Diane, Josh and the office team for accommodating and helping us with

clearing the fleet. I look forward to hearing how developments with this progress over the next year in preparation for the

next World ARC fleet arriving this December (2015).

Please note that the arrival of the 2015/16 fleet will begin in December as they did this year, with the start to Brazil via St

Helena on Saturday 9 January 2016. Your help in hosting the start would again be much appreciated.

Taking into account this year, I look forward to

planning the fleets arrival in December and

discussing berthing, functions and the start with

you.

Once again, many thanks for your help hosting

the World ARC fleet in Cape Town.
