GREETINGS from OAKWOOD DAFFODILS: MARCH 2017 Welcome to Oakwood Daffodil’s 34
rd annual listing of Midwestern-raised, bred, and acclimatized daffodils. I have grown daffodils on
a singular basis since 1971 and bred them on a regular basis since 1976. I can proudly state that I have the largest collection of
Narcissus hybrids in diversity, quality and quantity, in the United States. I have tried to offer the American gardener and daffodil
lovers worldwide the greatest chance of enjoying their favorite flower. Midwestern daffodils will do better in most of the USA and
better than those from other climates and countries. While emphasis is on Midwestern Daffodils, I am listing bulbs from Australia,
New Zealand and the United Kingdom too.
My daffodil list is sent out by email; and snail mail, to those who require that service. Bulbs are essentially dug to order in
late May and June, and then shipped in late September/ October.
This last year has been hard for me as my second year as a widower. End stage diabetes, osteoarthritis and spinal disease
have been traumatic and difficult on me. But I’ve not given up. I am continuing on with the daffodils. Including selling bulbs to our
customers and advancing their qualities through continued breeding and selections here.
I’m proud to announce our first Pannill Award to Cinnamon Ring, given this year at the National Show. Also a magnificent
bloom of Juergen, 1 Y-Y won the Gold at Nashville last week and Memphis today. Hopefully it too, will join the ranks with
Cinnamon Ring. I’m reintroducing Tristan’s Memory 2 Y-Y this year. It already has a good show record of Gold Awards will get
consideration soon. It’s up to you the exhibitors to insure this.
Julie Martin has been my family care giver and still is for me, while providing most of the work on the daffodils and helping
provide rehab care on her oldest granddaughter Maci for her post surgery on an aggressive brain tumor Without Julie there would not
be an Oakwood Daffodils. This year’s list has new Reed introductions and continues include list Larry’s Wier’s offerings at the end
of mine. I suggest you use the Hyperlink to Daffseek to view photos of these flowers on line to help with your order decisions.
Significant advances in many areas of color, form and size are being made at Oakwood. Last year’s repeat advances include
a beautiful show quality 1 P-R and a deeply colored show quality 8 Y-R using my hybrids exclusively as parents. We now have a
perfectly flat smooth 1Y-Y with wide non incurving petals, also more diverse 1 W-R’s and 2W-R’s.
Join us and savor out beauties. Help the daffodil world and the ADS grow stronger and show more of these attractive flowers.
Please take note of the final dates for ordering bulbs as we try to stop digging by the end of June. Sorry no credit cards at this time.
Orders are taken in sequence by date received.
Best Wishes,
John Reed, D.O.
Julie Martin

that receives natural rainfall and that does not puddle!
7. The format used in this catalog lists the daffodil’s registered name first. This is followed by its classification and color code, then
its hybridizer and country of origin. After the description, the pedigree (seed parent x pollen parent) is listed, then its flowering
time, and then the price for each bulb.
8. As a professional courtesy to our dear colleague, we include in our listing a special list of bulbs offered by Larry Wier; you can find
it at the end of this list. Larry personally oversees the growing, packaging, and posting of his own bulbs. Please send your order
and payment, and any questions, directly to Larry via his contact information included on his order form. Thank you.

GENERAL DAFFOIL LISTING 2017
AL LAUREYS 3Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) This is the finest small cupped 3Y-R I have flowered. Of smaller size, the smooth flat perianth segments are positioned in the same
plane with excellent poise. Named for Al a friend that helped me so much with the daffodils for 10 years. Al was always there when I
needed him. Though of slight build his heart was huge and the best! Was Reed 92-106-1.

Similar to Refrain but the cup is longer. Corona is variable in color which is more intensely pink or red in the best of seasons. Strong
stems support the flower well. Petals overlap but not massively. They are smooth and in the same plane.
Refrain x Magician Late Midseason $7.00
AMERICAN AFFAIR 2W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
When this first flowered I was amazed at its quality. It was the best 2 W-Y I had ever seen. ( See the photo in my 2016 ADS Journal
ad, plus other later photos in Daff Seek) The corona is dramatically colored a bright yellow and the perianth is very white. Its
smoothness is beyond other white yellow blooms I have flowered. This is a great show flower with excellent poise and petal overlap.
Stems are really strong. I have flowered smoother show flowers since but without the tremendous impact this one has. Stock is still
small with few to go this year. Was Reed 98-66-1
85-81-1 (Cyros x Helsal) x Irish Affair Midseason $ 55.00
AMERICAN DOLLAR 3W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA)

selected from the cross. Held high with excellent poise and strong stems. The colors are quite intense. An improvement over both its
parents. The photo I took can be seen on DaffSeek. Stock is still small. Was seedling 98-1-1.

(Stoke Charity x Panache) Midseason $ 6.00
AT LAST 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) This was the best selection from the crosses made from Fragrant Rose x Culmination. It was also the latest flowering and the slowest
to increase here, hence the name. Bright red open cups show well against very white, wide, smooth, overlapping petals and the
flowers face upwards. Fertile. A must for late shows. Was Reed 90-95-2.

BENTON HARBOR 2Y-W ((Dr. John Reed, USA)
On first flowering this was the best show quality reverse bicolor daffodil I had raised. Alas the stems are short and it has been seed
sterile too. The wide over lapping petals are very contrasted compared to the corona. Strong stems support the large flowers well with
a straight ahead poise. Was Reed 90-95-1
Fragrant Rose x Culmination Midseason $ 24.00
BIG MO 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)

(Broomhill x N. cyclamineus) Early Season $12.00

7
BURNING BUSH 3Y-R (Brian S Duncan, NIre,UK) A truly outstanding daffodil for the garden and show. Intense colors and long stems make it standout. Proving to be a good parent and
an excellent show flower. Makes smaller bulbs. My favorite Brian Duncan daffodil.
[(Rockhill x Bunclody) x (Altruist x Ulster Bank)] Late Midseason $6.00
BURR OAK 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A number of seedlings were planted adjacent to one of the great trees at Oakwood by my helpers when I had major health issues and
was not able to do it myself. When they planted the bulbs they failed to make planting diagrams and used ink labels that faded quickly.
This probably was a 1997 seedling, possibly related to Crimson Beauty. Evaluated over the years this selection showed more staying
power in bad weather, and overall superior qualities to its stem and flower. Originally called RED Oak by me, but the name was taken.
It had smooth overlapping white petals all in the same plane held on tall strong stems above the foliage with glorious red cups. These
qualities have been hard to get in 2 W-R daffodils. Stock is still small and it will be in demand for a long time. Was Reed seedling Red
Oak. Never released till 2016.
Parentage 1997 cross ? Midseason $ 30.00
BUTLER UNIVERSITY 3Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) Considered one of my best 3Y-Rs. It has tall, strong stems with excellent large show flowers. They are smooth with heavy substance
and excellent poise. Was Reed 92-80-2.
(Kinsman x Suntory) Midseason $ 7.00
BUTTER SILK 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) I was taken by this flower’s bright yellow color and extreme petal smoothness when I first saw it, hence the name. It has excellent
petal overlap and a strong medium length stem. Admired by Larry Weir at his place. It is giving excellent seedlings including my
best ever pale 1Y-Y for show. Was seedling 92-22-1.
(Camelot x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 7.00
CAMEO JOY 2 Y-R (Peter Ramsay, N.I, NZ)

blooms with a bowl-shaped corona.

CANDY MAN 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) From the cross that gave American Hero, this daffodil is not formal enough for show but it beckons you with its intense color and tall
stems, attracting people like a candy man does. Breeding intense color! Stock is still small. Was Reed 89-50-2.
(Culmination x Ruby Red) Late Season $ 9.00
CAPTAIN AMERICA 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) Appropriately named for a super hero. Tall stems and wide petals are a foil for an amazing large deep red cup. It can be shown.
Striking in the garden. Pollen is fertile and occasionally sets seed, too. See DaffSeek photos. Wind protection gives smoother, taller
blooms. The red color fades with time, especially in the sun. Was Reed 95-5-1.
(Cordial x Magician) Midseason $ 24.00
CARROT JUICE 1O-O (Dr. John Reed, USA) I could not take my eyes off this when it first flowered. While smaller than average, its petals were a uniform shade of light orange. I
could see no yellow in the petals with my eyes. This is not a suffusion or a sheen. While this is not a top show flower, it is showable
at its best. It is a real color break and its color is being passed on to its seedlings which are of a higher quality, too! Was seedling 96-
18-1.
[78-17-3N (Trumpet Call x Orange Way) x 82-108-4 (Zuni x Glenfarclas Early Mid-Season $ 16.00
8
8
CASSOPOLIS 2Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Possible my best 2Y-R, this is a well-engineered daffodil with an exemplary smooth very flat wide perianth supported by a strong
stem and neck. A row of blooms is almost military-like in their bearing. Alas, the deep colored cylinder-like cup burns easily and
needs protection for show. It can flush the petals with red at times. Named for a local Michigan town where I have purchased my
Ford trucks. Was Reed seedling 82-200-3.
[(Air Marshall x Caracas) x Creagh Dubh] Early Midseason $ 5.00
CEDAR HILLS 3W-GYY (Mitsch & Havens, USA) This sets the standard for beauty and quality in the late division threes. A show and garden flower of the highest caliber. Tall stems
support the very large flowers with excellent poise, and color contrast.
(Impala x Green Hills) Very Late Season $ 5.00
CELTIC PRINCE 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) This smaller 1Y-Y, possibly an intermediate has consistently given superb well-formed yellow flowers. White being down for 8 years.
It has freely open pollinated every year! Perhaps because the bees like it so well, too? This is from the reciprocal cross of it
Millennium Perfection. Was Seedling 87-40-2.
(Dream Prince x Celtic Gold) Early Midseason $5.00
CHANGING DAY 1Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) An outstanding advance in yellow-red show quality trumpets. When it first flowered I knew it was a “Changing Day” in my breeding
of red trumpets. Its perianth form is always superb and the colors are usually excellent. Bred from 2 seedlings chosen for color and
form. See photo on DaffSeek. Was seedling 98-105-1.
(Turk x 89-122-5 [Glenfarclas x 81-7-1 (Vulcan x Sutton Court)]) Early Midseason $ 30.00
CHARBONNEAU 2 W-WOO (Richard & Elise Havens, USA)
Well formed show flower with variable color here. Only perfect conditions gives the stronger coloration. Beautiful.
Iroquois x At Dawning Midseason $ 8.00
CHICAGO GOLD 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) The original label states Ultra Smooth and Deep Gold. It has consistently done this since its first flowering here. Of the highest
quality for exhibition, and also for the garden and breeding. The flowers are smaller than average. I find myself staring at it when
I walk by it, even when the flowers are gone! Named in honor of the helpful members of the Chicago Daffodil Society. Stock is still
small. Was Reed 93-1-2.
(Celtic Gold x Dream Prince) Early Season $ 7.00
CHICAGO GOLD COAST 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Named for the ritzy area of Lakeshore Drive in Chicago with very high priced apartments and homes. This flower is similar to
Chicago Gold but slightly deeper in color and the petals are not as wide. Stock has increased enough to finally offer it. An excellent
show flower of medium size. Was Reed 93-1-7., Early Midseason $ 8.00
CHICAGO HOPE 1Y-GYY (Dr. John Reed, USA) The name says it all. Besides using the famous TV show’s title, I had hoped that it would win the Rose Ribbon when shown some
years ago in Chicago. But that honor went to a sibling of Haunting. It is a well-balanced, medium sized, smooth yellow trumpet
capable of giving superb blooms. The smooth overlapping wide petals were inherited from Dream Prince and the vigor imparted from
Golden Jewel. Proving to be a very good breeder, too. Was Reed 85-7-2
(Golden Jewel x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 6.00
CHILOQUIN 1Y-W (Grant E. Mitsch, USA) A vigorous show bloom that does well in the garden. Floriferous, smaller than average.

COMMODORE PERRY 1W-GPP (Dr. John Reed, USA) Such a perfect flower had to be near the highest level in the chain-of-command. An American hero with a great American daffodil
named for him. While of smaller size it is almost perfect, with a flat smooth overlapping perianth and a light pink evenly expanded
trumpet. One of the down under breeders, after seeing the photo (shown in our ADS ad) said that it must be the most perfect 1W-P in
the world. Bred from a flower John Lea was using in his pink trumpet program, crossed with the best of Jackson’s pinks at the time.
A marriage made in daffodil heaven and a flower either breeder would be proud to claim. Thank you John and David! The
Best Intermediate 1 W-P in the world. Was Reed 87-70-1
(Lea 1-19-66 x Obsession) Early Midseason $ 9.00
COMPUTE 1W-Y (D. Jackson, Jr. TAS, AUS)
One of the largest bicolor trumpets ever seen here. Strong tall stems support a flower with a long deep yellow trumpet. Poise and neck
excellent. The perianth is smooth but not quite as good as Bewdy’s but it is a very impressive bloom. For show and
garden. Fertile both ways.
Helsal x Lenz Early Midseason $6.00
COPPER MINE 2O-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
When initially seen I was hard-pressed to code the petal color. Not a yellow but not a true red, either. The flower has become bigger,
stronger and brighter as the stock as grown. Still scarce but very desirable for showing and breeding. Tall stems and large flowers
guide your eyes to it! Was Reed 97-104-1.
(Cowboy x Burning Bush) Midseason $ 40.00
COPPERFIELD 2Y-Y (R & E Havens, USA)
When well grown this is an unusual coloration. Buffy yellow petals support an orangish corona. The stem is strong with excellent
poise. The petals have a good overlap and are smooth. For show and garden. Great increaser.
(Paricutin x Daydream) Midseason $ 4.00
COWBOY 2Y-O (David Jackson, Tas AUS) A Large well colored bloom for show and garden. Excellent breeder, and vigorous!
(Craze x Coope) Midseason $5.00
CREATION 1W-W (Grant E. Mitsch, USA)
This is the most vigorous non-rotting early show quality white trumpet here. The trumpet
is flanged and the flower is fertile.
[(Trousseau x Paradise) x (Seedling A39/1 x Panache] Early Season $ 5.00
CRIMSON BEAUTY 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Bulbs of this were given to Larry Force to try in his Mississippi climate. Shown the following spring at the ADS National Show by
Larry it took first place in the single bloom class for its colors and size. It caught the eye of many exhibitors including David Burdick.
David stated the color of the large cup shouted across the room getting his attention. The blooms had overlapping wide, very white
smooth petals, all in the same plane with a strong neck and upward poise. A healthy grower. Name was chosen by Larry Force. Was
Reed 97-86-1
(Decoy X Culmination) X Magician Late Midseason $ 20.00
CULVER 3Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This the second of the next generation bred from Haunting. This is much smoother and larger then Haunting. Similar but distinctive
from Shipshewana that increases more slowly. Named for a local town south of us in Indiana and home of Culver Military Academy.
Petals are well rounded with excellent overlap and are silky smooth. Poise and stems are very good and strong. Was Reed Seedling
99-24-3
(Get Away x Haunting) Midseason $ 24.00
DAVE’S FAVORITE 2Y-0 (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Dave Karnstedt was very fussy about the daffodils that he likes. They needed to point high and be aesthetically beautiful. In other
words, approaching perfection! This late 2Y-O is one such flower that Dave seemed to really admire during one of his visits to
Oakwood, hence the name. I wish it was more highly colored and have bred it with Burning Bush in hopes of that end. A very high
quality show flower. Was Reed 84-142-1
(Safari x Bunclody) Late Midseason $5.00
DENIS DAILY 2O-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) Named for our Oakwood guest, a major figure in the Minnesota Daffodil Society until his untimely passing in 2012. Bred to put a
color-fastness gene into Sabine Hay. A large, round flower that needs protection for its best color, which is strong and distinct.
Potential breeder. Was seedling number 87-9-1.
(Spelter x Sabine Hay) Midseason $ 9.00

DIAMOND LAKE 1W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the largest show quality 1 W-Y that I have bred. It can be absolutely huge. The tall strong stem supports and shows its broad
perianth and trumpet well. Diamond Lake is the largest and most prestigious Lake in our locale (other than Lake Michigan). Was
Reed 85-56-1. Limited Stock.
Occasionally x Bravoure Early Midseason $21.00
DIANA’S SONG 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This name was used to honor Princess Diana on her untimely death because England’s Rose (Elton John’s song honoring her) was not
allowed by the International Plant Naming Societies. The smoothest petals of any daffodil in the cross and with beautiful colors. A
great show flower, I had inadvertently left out of the catalog the last couple of years. Was Reed 90-5-1
Valinor x Verran Rose Late $ 12.00
DIK DIK 2Y-R (G.E Mitsch, USA)
Originally classified as a division 6 but changed to division 2 owing to its flat, smooth perianth (No reflex). It is scarce outstanding
intermediate daffodil for show.
Seedling x N.cyc. Early Season $ 8.00
DINGUS DAY 2W-P(R) (Dr. John Reed, USA) After the original cross made in 1988 flowered, it was repeated with even better results in 1994. This flower has better form and is
more consistent in its intense cup color, ranging from deep pink to red-pink. A most imposing flower supported with tall stems here.
It has been in bloom on Dingus Day (the Monday after Easter Sunday), a Polish holiday celebrated in South Bend, Indiana annually by
politicians with beer, Polish sausage, and speeches. Was 94-14-1.
(Dear Me x Culmination ) Early Midseason $11.00
DYNASTY 2Y-R (Spud Brogden, NZ,NI) One of Spud’s best show flowers. Outstanding color and form.
[T42 (Air Marshall x Orator) x Loch Hope] Midseason $ 5.00
EDIE 2W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA) Named for our wonderful daffodil helper, Edie Godfrey. She has been there to help, especially with sending out orders. Edie actually
was at my bedside to help when I had a pulmonary embolism. This is my first very pure pink cup named from Lavender Hope. The
stems are long, supporting pure pink cups against white overlapping petals. It is showable and fertile. This is the flower you want if
you desire REAL PINK COLOR. See Daffseek photo. Was Reed 97-76-1.
(Lawless x Lavender Hope) Midseason $ 20.00
END ZONE 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) Originally called Red Zone per my original description. While not registered it had been used two years ago by Steve
Vininsky. As much as I wanted to use it I felt is was not fair to Steve. End Zone is after the Red Zone in football where a touch
down is scored. Primarily for garden because the perianth just never makes a smooth enough showing. Colors are intense and the
parentage is outstanding. Strong stems, excellent grower and increaser. This is relegated for the garden flower grouping. A long
lasting bloom. Was Reed 98-2003-2009
Verran Rose x Magician Midseason $ 16.00
ENERGIZER 2O-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Early in my breeding I was determined to improve the all-orange-red daffodils by breeding and selecting for more color intensity and
color “fastness” as they flower here. My early seedlings and those of Brian Duncan’s from Altruist would only show a deep perianth
color in the best of seasons and none ever showed the intensity that Gypsy or Fiery Flame did in Oregon. Only two selections were
kept from this intensely “hot” cross and this one has demonstrated the best combination of form and color resistance here. Hopefully
its name says it all. Like the little pink bunny with its beating drums it will energize your spring garden, show table and breeding
program. Increase has been slow. Was Reed Seedling 87-6-2
(Sabine Hay x Stylish) Early Midseason $ 12.00
EGMONT KING 2Y-YOR (SPUD BROGDEN, NEW ZEALAND)
First time listing for Oakwood Daffodils. Very strong, healthy, tall and well colored.
Orator X Loch Hope Mid -Season $12
FIRE RAISER 2O-O (Carncairn Daffodils, N IRE)
Smooth rounder petals that intensify in color as they age, with complete sun-resistance,characterize this fantastic almost all orange
daffodil. Strong short stems hold it erect in all weathers conditions. A wonderful small show flower that really glows in the garden.
Vulcan x Spelter Midseason $4.00

FIRST STEP 6W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA) My first 6W-O. Short cupped and color variable but good in recent years. Tends to be yellow at the base of the corona. Was seedling
81-23-1.
(Kilworth x Ballydorn 6W-Y seedling) Late Season $ 4.00
FLAMING SILK 1W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) It seemed logical to cross Pink Silk and Magician to get a 1W-R. This is the only one in two cross attempts that measured division 1.
The cross was made both ways, too. Magician gave the best flowers as a seed parent. Its color is not the ultimate red, but it is a very
good starting point. Strong, tall stems support large flowers of show quality with an excellent poise. The bulbs are healthy and it is
fertile both ways. Now giving 1 W-R seedlings. Was seedling 94-8-1.
(Magician x Pink Silk) Midseason $ 34.00
FLORIDA ORANGE 2W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA) The first of the “near-trumpet” 1 W-O crosses to be released. This is a strong vigorous growing, well contrasted 2W-O with strong
stems. The blooms are bright with a trumpet shaped corona of strong orange against the very white petals. Petals are overlapping,
wide, and all in one plane. The poise is excellent. Stock is still small. Was Reed Seedling 98-48-1
(Ivory Orange x Carrot Top) Early Midseason $ 30.00
FLUSHER 2O-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) From my first cross to get an orange-petaled orange trumpet. Two of 120 flowers showed some color in the petals. Alas, the slowest
growing one was the best colored one! Of trumpet character and form, it usually has some degree of petal flush. The stems are tall
but not as strong as I would like. The corona measures 30 mm and petals 36 mm (Note: most of my daffodils will grow bigger in a
protected watered area. All the flowers measured here are grown in the fields). The petals have good overlap and excellent poise. I
did not breed with it until I actually flowered a 1O-O. Was Reed 84-79-2.
(Glenfarclas x Creag Dubh) Early Midseason $8.00
FORT MITCHELL 1W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Named in honor of the site of the 2002 ADS National Show where it beat many well-known flowers in its single bloom class. Its
perfection and smoothness cried out for being exhibited so it was removed from our trade stand to win the single bloom award.
It was cut from the open windswept field of 10 acres. It was beautiful with its chaste smooth flat perianth and its mid-yellow trumpet.
Every bloom was identical. Very consistent! Also a vigorous good increaser. Was Reed 81-107-1.
(Cool Contrast x ? --possibly Flash Affair)Early Midseason $ 5.00
FRANZ JACKSON 2W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA) Sibling to Tangerine Delight. It is slightly earlier and a couple millimeters short of a trumpet measurement. Excellent carriage and
reasonable form. Named for a jazz musician, the father of one of Sandy’s friends. Very small stock. Was Reed 98-32-1.
(Orange Tint x Lutana) Early Midseason $ 32.00
GALIEN 2W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) When this cross flowered I was hard pressed to decide which ones to keep. This is the only one of about 200 seedlings that was
retained. Its perianth is very smooth with perfectly flat petals in the same plane. The tall flowers support a deep-yellow cup with
strong stems and excellent poise, but petals are not wide. Much admired by Mike Berrigan. Growth was slow initially but seems to
be improving now. Just cut for show or admire it in the garden. Named for the small local Michigan town near Dayton Lake. Was
Reed 79-21-1.
(Easter Moon x Chapeau ) Midseason $5.00
GOLDEN RICHES 1Y-Y (David Bell, SI,NZ) Almost a self-orange in favorable seasons. For garden and breeding but can be shown. Nicely ruffled flange on the trumpet.
Vigorous and dependable.
[(Red Conquest x Golden Fortune) x Salome] Early Season 3 for $ 10.00
GREAT JOY 2W-P ( Dr. John Reed, USA) This flower resulted from my first efforts to breed a 1W-R. Even though it is not a full trumpet, the plant is vigorous and smooth with
tall stems. Cup color can almost be red in some seasons. Very good. Named for Joy Haeffner, who has been a great help and a joy
for Oakwood. Was Reed 96-3-1. Shown in Kirby Fong’s winning collection in 2013. See DaffSeek for a well-colored picture.
(Pink Silk x Magician) Early Midseason $ 12.00

GREAT LAKES 2W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Pike Lake was the only bicolor (W-Y) in a cross of two great all white flowers. Irish Affair was used to brighten the colors and
improve the perianth. A really large well-watered bulb can give an impressive bloom. Its name reflects the largest W-Y flower I
have bred and for the naval base that my grandfather and father served on. I lived on the Great Lakes Naval Training Center
for 9 years too. It is now being used in breeding. Hopefully even larger, better blooms will result. Very healthy and fertile. Stock is
still small. Was Reed 99-51-1
Pike Lake x Irish Affair Midseason $ 24.00
GREEN ENVY 3W-GWW (Dr. John Reed, USA) Combining the better qualities of its parents, we have a tall, well-formed late white that consistently has a deep, green eye to the small
spreading slightly frilled cup. A strong plant that multiplies very well and is later than the much smaller Jade. The really deep,
mossy green center when seen can make one green with envy. Was Reed 91-73-2.
(Limey Circle x Dunley Hall) Very Late Season $ 6.00
GREEN HOPE 2W-GWW (Dr. John Reed, USA) A beautiful green-eyed flower that has given me the best of my green-eyed daffodils. Was Reed Seedling 85-26-4. Offered as Green
Heart initially, now registered as Green Hope. (Angel x Misty Glen) Late Midseason $ 9.00
GREEN SPICE 3W-G (Dr. John Reed, USA) While not a pure green (It has some orange tinges, it has faithfully flowered every year with it clearly chartreuse colored cup. Fertile
both ways. It is now giving me my second generation seedlings with different variations of green colored cups. Very good show
quality and strong, tall stems. Was seedling 98-125-1
Irish Mint x Green Hope Late Season $ 40.00
GUY WILSON 2W-W (AJR Pearson, ENG)
This is the best formed 2W-W of John’s breeding. A beautiful show flower of the best caliber. I do wish the stems were taller.
Scarce.
Stoke Charity x Panache Midseason $20.00
HALOGEN 2Y-W (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the best, brightly contrasted, large cup reverse bicolor that I have raised. It takes several days to develop its intense, luminous
color. The DaffSeek photos speak loudly for themselves. Fertile both ways. Was Reed Seedling 98-180-1
Impressive Dream x Altuna Ha Midseason $ 40.00
HANBURY 2W-W (Clive Postles, Eng,UK)
At its best this is the most beautiful 2W-W I grow. Of trumpet character, it is healthy and fertile with tall strong stems and excellent
poise.
(Ben Avon x Panache) Midseason $ 5.00
HANKY PANKY 11aY-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Named for a rock ‘n roll song by Tommy James, originally from Niles, Michigan. A great improvement over King Size. Has won its
class in the National Show. Good breeder. Was seedling 90-29-1
(King Size x Dream Prince) Midseason $6.00
HAUNTING 3Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) The name says it all! I marked Haunting on the plastic label I staked it with when I first saw it in bloom that warm breezy late spring
day. It appeared hauntingly beautiful then and it continues to be the best 3Y-Y that I have grown for show. Pictured in the March
2003 ADS advertisement for Oakwood Daffodils. Perfect balance, form, stem, neck, poise and petals. Almost a perfect uniform
shade of yellow. Was Reed 84-41-2.
(Emily x Minster Lodge) Late Season $ 7.00
HAWLEY GIFT 2Y-R (J. M. Radcliff, Tas,AUS / Registered by Dr. John Reed, USA) Sent here under seedling number from the Radcliff’s, this is a very special high quality addition to Oakwood. Highly admired by
many ADS members here, it is now demonstrating its value as a breeder and a show flower. It looks like a red trumpet. The blooms
are well colored and have a well overlapping, very smooth perianth. Poise and stems are excellent. Was Radcliff 9/84.
(Breeding unknown) Midseason $8.00
HEAVEN’S GATE 2W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA) This daffodil is all about color. Flamboyant rose-red, narrow corona with an expanding circular edge giving it the appearance of a
trumpet. The petals are well formed and overlapping with strong stems supporting large blooms with good poise. Was Reed 95-115-

HELEN’S MEMORY 3W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) A beautiful flower with intense colors. It is hard to believe this came from Grace Note! Smooth flat, overlapping perianth segments
display the brilliant yellow crinkled cup. Blooms can be quite large and all have strong stems with good necks. Reed 90-69-11.
(Grace Note x Dunley Hall) Late Season $ 12.00
HERMANN 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Consistency and perfection have been the hallmarks of this very nice large yellow trumpet. Smooth, well balanced blooms supported
by strong stems and well poised, with wide overlapping petals form the perianth. Color is a pleasing yellow, to both the petals and
corona. Named in tribute to Joy and Cindy Haeffner’s home town, in Missouri. Was Reed 88-34-12
(Phil’s Gift x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 14.00
HIGH COMMAND 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This was the first selection from these two high quality parents. Spectacular show blooms with large yellow petals are held high on
strong tall stems giving a commanding poise. The well over lapping petals are all in the same plane and the coronas are of trumpet
character but measuring division two. A healthy and very vigorous grower. Shown in several winning collections in 2017. Was
Reed 200-165-1
Gold Bond x Wow! Midseason $ 22.00
HOLY COW! 2W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA) This flower’s cup is hard to believe with its pleats and crinkles. Colors are more orange than yellow in most years. The perianth is
well formed with excellent poise and strong straight stems. As it was bred from Great Scott, this exclamation of the Chicago Cubs
sports announcer, Harry Cary, seemed an appropriate name. Photo is in DaffSeek. A unique flower for garden and breeding. Was
Reed 95-220-3.
(Great Scott x Arwon) Midseason $ 17.00
ICE CAPADES 1W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA) In keeping up with the Havens Daffodils catalog that has a garden daffodils section, I felt it was time to for me to finally do this
too. Over the years some daffodils do so well except not having ultra-perfect show blooms. Combining the best qualities of their
parents but so not well formed or smooth enough for show much better than last 2 years. Their blooms are VERY white, floriferous,
and healthy with great bulb increase. Quite a sight in the garden. A modern day division one Ice Capades but with a much whiter
flower and a trumpet shaped corona. Was Reed 94-129-1
Rhapsody x Chaste Early $ 6.00
INDIANA UNIVERSITY 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Named for my alma mater owing to its brilliant colors of red and white. This is the best-colored and formed selection from
this cross. While very capable of being shown, it is not the epitome of white red breeding yet. But its earliness and brilliant
red color make it very unique and desirable. Very fertile both ways. Color develops quickly. Was Reed 83-69-1.
Magician x Quasar Midseason $7.00
INNER GLOW 2W-P (B S Duncan, N IRE)
A beautiful reddish pink from Brian. For show and breeding.
Clouds Rest x Fragrant Rose Late Midseason $13.00
IRISH AFFAIR 2W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) This is by far the best 2W-Y I have raised and named and released at the tme. After opening the petals and cup expand and take on a
more notable appearance. Heavy substance, bright crisp colors, large size with an excellent stem and neck characterize this flower.
Fertile, but seed shy. Named for the romance between my stepdaughter, Michele and her boyfriend, John, when she spent a year in
Belfast going to the University of Ulster. (Irish Wedding celebrated their marriage in Northern Ireland). Also, a combining of the
names of both daffodils. This is a great flower that needs to be seen to be appreciated. Great in the garden and shows, too. Was Reed
84-34-1.
(Irish Mist x Flash Affair) Midseason $ 6.00
IRISH MINT 3W-GGW (Dr. John Reed, USA) A smaller show flower of great smoothness and roundness. Fertile and transmitting that smoothness to its offspring. The amount of
green in the eye will be less in dry seasons. Excellent show flower. Was seedling 85-99-1.
(Angel x Achnasheen) Midseason $ 8.00
JAMORE 2Y-R (Jim O’More, NZ)
One of the most consistent show flowers in its class with “very” smooth overlapping petals. It can be well colored and of Best in Show

Flaming Spring x Caracas Early Midseason $ 10.00
JAW BREAKER 2W-O (Dr. John Reed USA)
This gigantic flower is held high on strong stems. The color is intense to its expanding corona of trumpet character. The perianth
quality is more suited for the garden but can be shown. Petals are overlapping. Poise is good. When first seen by Jason Delaney, his
mouth opened so wide, I thought his jaw would drop off, hence the name Jaw Breaker. Fertile, slower grower, and stock is still small.

JOHN EMMETT 2Y-O (Clive Postles, Eng,UK) This sibling to Cutting Edge has never been listed to my knowledge. It is bigger, more vigorous and a far superior flower. alas, just
short of a trumpet. See photos on Daffseek.org. It has suffered with some rot here but far less than its parent and sibling.
Recommend for the highest level of showing and breeding. Excellent breeder, Only a few to go. Was Postles Seedling 1-27-89.

JUERGEN 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
More praises have been given to this yellow trumpet than any other while growing in our field. Also from New Zealand. Very
consistent with a smooth over lapping perianth and a well-balanced trumpet. Strong stems with excellent poise. The Daffseek photo
shows it growing in the field and is very representative of its form. Named to honor Juergen Steininger, a nurseryman who loves
daffodils and is promoting them for the American market. It received two Best in Show this year. Was Reed seedling 96-63-1.

(Port Rush x Pretty Polly) Midseason $ 3.00
KOOP 1Y-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This small orange trumpet had a flag next to it after the 2009 ADS National Show bus trip visited us after the 2009 Show. The flag
said Koop because Dr. Koopowitz liked it and put his abbreviated name to it. The name stayed with it and was registered “Koop” in
his honor. The flower is apparently an intermediate and vigorous. Quite smooth with overlapping petals. May be a useful breeder?
Stock is small. Was Reed 97-47-1

LAKE SUPERIOR 1 W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the most consistent show quality flower 1 W-Y that I have named so far. Shown twice, it has been a Rose Ribbon winner and
a Best IN Show. Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes and this daffodil is so named! Alas, it has been a slow increaser but
always smooth. Great colors, substance, smoothness, poise. See Tom Stettner’s photo on DaffSeek. Fertile both ways. Price is high,
reflecting its scarceness and desirability. Was Reed 98-26-16.

A very light almost lavender-pink. An excellent show flower.
(Accent x Verran) Early Midseason $5.00
LEMON CREEK 3W-GGY (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Named for a local winery in SW Michigan. This intermediate is a very striking departure from the usual blooms. The round wide
petals color up to a light yellow in contrast to the small intensely colored cup with its deep bright green center and really deep
golden yellow outer corona. Unusual and a very high quality show bloom. Excellent poise, strong stems and a good grower so far.
Stock is still small. Was Reed 98-125-2013
Irish Mint x 85-26-1 (Angel x Misty Glen) Late Season $ 30.00
LEMON DESIRE 1Y-W (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This early reverse is very elegant and show worthy. Strong stems and excellent poise display it well in the garden. It has been
free of rot and is a strong floriferous grower. Reversing is slow but worth the wait! Petal overlap is excellent and very smooth too. See
the nice photo on Daffseek. Was Seedling 93-97-3
Chicken Hill x Dream Prince Early Season $14.00

LIMEQUILLA 7W-W (Elise Havens) Floriferous and vigorous jonquilla that is also fertile.
(Lime Chiffon X N. jonquilla Late Mid-Season $5.00
LITTLE CUDA 6Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) This is the last of the Heidi o.p. seedlings that I have selected. It is very easy to recognize because of its very long corona with
dentate-like edges that remind me of teeth like a barracuda. Showable, healthy and fertile. A true miniature. Stock is small. Was
seedling Heidi o.p #3
(Heidi open-pollinated) Early Season $ 14.00
LITTLE DAVID 6W-W (Dave Karnstedt, USA)
A vigorous fertile miniature. The petals are informal. Bred from Swagger, it has been very healthy and sets seed easily. In contrast
to Dave Karnstedt who was very tall, the name Little David seemed appropriate. As Little David slew Goliath, I expect this
daffodil to be a pathway to many future miniatures. See photo in Daffseek. Scarce

LIVING COLOUR 2W-GRR (Colin Crotty, SI, NZ) Deeply colored but has short stems. Has proved itself as a valuable breeder here.
[(Rainbow x Cherry Rim) x Eclat] Midseason $ 4.00
LOUISE RANDALL 2W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA) This is a beautiful daffodil named for a very special lady who loved daffodils. For many years Louise and her son, Bob, would help
me plant daffodils especially when I got behind. She even helped in the snowy November weather when she was in her 80s. This is
the most consistent early midseason white for show that I have named so far. It is also great in the garden. By combining the best
attributes of its parents, it never lets you down. Neither did Louise! Flower grows and develops on maturity don’t pick when
immature. Was Reed 89-9-1.
(Misty Glen x Rhapsody) Early Midseason $ 6.00
LOVER BOY 3W-Y 3W-Y ( Dr. John Reed, USA)

been a good breeder for deep pink/red flowers. A great improvement over Spaceship. Very healthy, excellent stem, neck and wide
petals. Named for a small local Indiana town.
(Spaceship x Culmination) Early Midseason $ 5.00
MACDALLA 1W-Y (David Jackson, TAS, AUS)
A very smooth show winner from Tasmania. Its corona is more tubular and a pale yellow in color as it has grown here. It was a deeper
color when seen down under. Stock is still small. An excellent show flower and good grower. See Daffseek photo.
(Breeding unknown) Early Season $ 12.00
MACILYNN 3W-YYR (Dr. John Reed, USA)
It seemed logical to cross the vigorous and colorful My Sweetheart with LaPaloma. This is possibly the best all-around show flower
of the seven selections kept. It is named for Oakwood’s own sweetheart Christy Wagoner’s little baby. This is a strong grower and
increaser! Was Reed 95-34-2.
(La Paloma x My Sweetheart) Midseason $ 16.00

Pitchroy x Panache Midseason $16.00
MARIEMONT 1Y-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This beautiful flower had been admired ever since it first flowered. It has been a healthy strong grower with smooth wide petals
backing a very nice orange trumpet. A bulb sent to Jason Delaney was praised highly. It was the earliest 1Y-O to flower in 2014, and
the blooms were long lasting. Location and seasonal variables can alter its quality. Named for a southern Ohio community interested
in Oakwood’s daffodils. Was Reed seedling 95-100-1.
[81-30-1 (Q20 x Sutton Court) x Uncle Duncan] Early Season $ 6.00 or 3/$12.00
MEMORIAL DAY 2W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA) Named in honor of the Memorial Day daffodil dig that has become a tradition here, sharing our excess bulbs with the daffodil clubs

MIGHTY MITE 1YYG-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Many hundreds of seedlings were raised from this cross giving standard sized blooms and smaller intermediate ones. This has been
the best show intermediate yellow trumpet I have raised, albeit increase has been slow. The plants have been healthy and fertile both
ways. See the photo on DaffSeek. Limited stock. Now getting many best intermediate show. Was Reed 2010 selection #5.
(Celtic Gold x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 26.00
MILLENNIUM ORANGE 1W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the finest white-orange trumper that I have named to date. The corona shades from deep to light orange down the
corona. The stem, neck, poise overlap are outstanding. Much admired by Peter Ramsay when he visited here. Very fertile. Photo is in
Daffseek. Was Seeding 96-125-2.
81-125-2 (Preamble x Poets Dream) x Lutana Early Midseason $60.00
MILLENNIUM PERFECTION 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Of all the yellow trumpets that I have flowered, this has consistently been the finest show flower from year to year as it grows in the
field. The cross for it was made 5 times and this was from the last attempt. A bulb given to Bob Spotts took Best in Show at the 2010
National ADS Show. The petals are very smooth and their width is extraordinary. It is giving these characteristics to its offspring. Its
picture can be seen on DaffSeek. Was Reed seedling 95-1-1.
(Celtic Gold x Dream Prince) Midseason $ 36.00
MILLENNIUM RED 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) When it first flowered this was the most pure red cup I had developed. Not a dark red like Catalyst but a pure vibrant red. It in turn is
breeding this color. It has excellent petals that are very white with good overlap. Strong stems with up facing poise display the
blooms well. Was Reed seedling 91-6-1. Scarce.
(Evans W 2/5 x Ruby Red) Midseason $ 22.00
MOON RAKER 8Y-YYO (JN Hancock and Co, Australia)
Never offered in the USA. This is the best show worthy poetaz available. Excellent stem, poise and overlapping petals. Usually 2
flowers per stem. Great flower.
Corofin x ? Late $14.00
MOTOWN 11aY-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
While registered in 2009, it had to be renamed as hopeful Lickity Split was not accepted. I’m not sure if it was offered in 2009 but at
least not under this name. So I’m re-offering it now. Due to oversight it has not been listed since. This cross was made to get an 11O-
R and is very deeply colored. In a better climate it probably will be an orange-petaled flower. The corona is very dark and the plant is
vigorous. While slightly coarse, it can be shown especially with extra watering and wind protection is a sight to see! Was Reed
Seedling 98-54-3
(Menehay x Rory’s Glen) Midseason $ 14.00

(La Paloma x My Sweetheart) Midseason $ 22.00
NOTEWORTHY 3W-YYO (William Pannill, USA)

(Raspberry Ring x Fragrant Rose) Late Season $ 5.00
OAKWOOD GLEN 2O-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the first of the richly-colored, concolorous “almost-trumpet” orange trumpets to be released. Of trumpet character and a very
vigorous grower, this fertile flower is being extensively used in 1O-O crosses. The color is more copper than orange and is uniform
rather than just a flush. Medium-sized with excellent stems and poise. Petals overlap well and are smooth. It’s color at sunset is
exquisite, its petals distinctly copper compared to neighboring yellows, golds, and oranges. Was Reed Seedling 2002-86-1
(Rory’s Glen x Quantum Leap) Midseason $ 20.00

Tiny Tot x Divine Very Early Season $ 5.00
OAKWOOD STIMULUS (formerly STIMULUS) 2YO-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)Just short of a trumpet and intensely colored.
The perianth can flush orangish-red in a favorable season. Not of the highest show caliber, but it stands out (shouts at you!) in the
garden due to its coloration. Offered for breeding and garden use. As President Obama has offered us a stimulus to get our economy
going, I offer you a stimulus for further breeding toward the ultimate 1O-R! Was Reed 89-122-2.
[Glenfarclas x 81-7-1 (Vulcan x Sutton Court)] Early Midseason $ 5.00
OAKWOOD TYKE 1 W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Vigorous for garden and show. Indescribable, The best and healthy.
Bagatelle x Sir Echo Early Midseason $ 5.00
OH CINDY! 2Y-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A.D.S member Cindy Haeffner was smitten by this vigorous intermediate bloom while still in the unselected seedling beds. Initially
verging on miniature size the clump opened with very little color and the cup was somewhat “squatty” in form. By the afternoon the
colors had changed to a very strong pink and had an improved corona. The well formed petals were a pleasing light yellow. It had
copious pollen and was fertile. A true intermediate with strong short stems but held high above the leaves. The blooms look at you. An
amazing flower and very healthy so far. Was Reed seedling 2000-36-1.
Laporte x 2 Y-P seedling Midseason $ 20.00
OREGON TRAIL 1Y-R (William F. Tribe, USA) A well colored but smaller red trumpet for show and garden. I have a very good strong-growing stock. Multiplies very well.

ADS Classic.
Klingo x Ardour Midseason $8.00
PEACEFUL HOLLOW 6Y-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A sibling to Wayne’s World. It has drawn praise from several ADS judges. Smooth and well-formed but slightly larger than Wayne’s
World. Also slow growing! Well swept-back petals sport an orange, medium length corona. Stock is small. Was Reed 84-49-2.
(Monal x N. cyclamineus) Early Season $ 12.00
PEGGY MACNEALE 2W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA) Peggy was an outstanding and long-time member of the ADS that she loved. Her enthusiasm brought many new daffodil lovers to
join the ADS and the SWODS group. Her trips to Oakwood were only at bulb digging time because of her ADS duties. She liked to
point out particular bird calls to us novices while she hiked the wooded hills of Oakwood. Oakwood loved Peggy. This is a superb
smooth show flower. Very white bloom with trumpet shaped corona on strong stems with excellent poise. My Best Show
White Daffodils. Was 84-122-3.
(Inverpolly x Kindee) Midseason $ 8.00
PETER 3W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Well formed overlapping smooth white petals, rounded all in the same plane. Petals are slightly incurved. Strong stems with
excellent poise. The corona is round and the color is a light reddish pink. Fertile both ways. Named to honor Peter Ramsay of New
Zealand. Peter has been a long time daffodil friend. The best formed daffodil from its cross and used extensively in breeding.
Was Reed 2000-21-1
Kerstin x Clouds Rest Midseason $ 25.00
PIERCE- ARROW 1Y-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Show quality 1Y-Os are still scarce, especially those that flower late. This vigorous daffodil blooms in late midseason here. It is of
excellent size and height. And is of show quality with good poise, overlapping petals and non-fading color. Named for the classic
American cars made in Albany, New York. A twelve-cylinder version of the Pierce Arrow set a world land speed record in the early
1930s driven on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Was Reed Seedling 89-83-17.
(Trumpet Call x Glenfarclas) Late Midseason $ 5.00

My best all around Y-R daffodil.
(Safari x Bunclody) Late Season $ 5.00
PIKE LAKE 2W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) The newest of the Lake Series to be named. Admired by several ADS judges and myself. Its strong stem, neck, poise and the late
midseason flowering make this flat perianth beauty a good show flower. It was the only W-Y in a cross that gave many lovely W-Ws.
Named for a small fishing lake just east of Dayton Lake. This is very vigorous and giving nice seedlings. Was Reed 88-82-1.
(Misty Glen x Immaculate) Late Midseason $ 5.00
PINK CLIMAX 2Y-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This was the name that came to me when I first saw it in bloom. The flower colors are pastel and very pure. Almost a lavender pink
in the trumpet shaped corona. Definitely not garish. I can only hope that David Bell has been looking down from Daffodil Heaven to
see it in bloom. A must have! Vigorous and floriferous. Was Reed Seedling 92-169-1. See DaffSeek photo.
(Quantasia x Fidelity) Midseason $ 8.00
PINK FLUSH 2P-P (Dr. John Reed, USA) Simply the most consistent show quality pink flushed perianth I have raised or seen here. Every year it has shown a warm pink glow
in its smooth flat, overlapping perianth. It is also giving that color and quality to its offspring. Fertile both ways.
Was Reed 90-100-2.
(Music x Culmination) Late Midseason $ 7.00
PINKIE LEE 2P-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A good addition to the scare class 2 P-P. Show quality, vigorous grower. Named for a child hood T.V actor from the early 1950’s.

86-31-1 (Decoy x Culmination) x Magician Midseason $ 26.00
PINK PANDA 2P-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
The second daffodil in the garden series. This can be shown but is so late in blooming that it is not useful for most people to show.
The pink shading is also very dark. Very healthy and floriferous. It is a good breeder too, giving a very flashy 2 P-P this year. All the
usual good attributes. Try it. You will probably like it. Was Reed 98-214-2009-1
Mowana x Pink Flush Very Late $ 20.00
PIN-UP GIRL (formerly COVER GIRL) 2W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)

Achduart x Trudie May Midseason $ 20.00

Golden Aura x Aircastle Midseason $10.00
20

QUANTUM LEAP 1O-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) When this first flowered I was amazed to see its Altruist-like coppery petals. While I have never seen that copper color again the
petals do show a reasonable light orange flushing and the big trumpet has intensified in color. Jason Delany has insisted that I should
code it as red, not orange. This change has been made. It has tall stems that show some arching. It is fertile both ways and has been
retained for breeding. It has given orange trumpet seedlings with Flusher. Was Seedling 94-15-2.
(American Revolution x Corbiere) Early Midseason $7.00
RAMALLAH 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Every bloom is fit to show. The blooms show just above the leaf tips with lasting power on the stem. Chosen to honor a fellow
physician, Dr.Salous from Palestine. This is the name of his home town. A well balanced, pleasant show bloom. See photo on
Daffnet from the Chicago 2013 show. Was Reed 93-1-23.
(Celtic Gold x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 10.00
RED ENVY 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) Because of Culmination’s tall stem I used it almost exclusively in my early 2W-R crosses. After seeing Catalyst, I started using
Magician more. Red Envy is the best from this cross for me. Much like Catalyst as the seed parent, it too is seed sterile here. The
flower is a little brighter red. The flower usually lasts 5-6 days longer than Catalyst and is more rot resistant so far! It can be shown
and has a strong, short neck with bright color that is non-fading. Healthy. 3 blooms at 2017 National Show were outstanding and were
grown in Mississippi. Was Seedling 95-14-1.
(Decoy x Magician) Early Midseason $8.00
RED WINE 3W-R (Dr. John Reed USA) Color is an intense red at the outer rim very decreasing to the center of the bloom. White petals overlap and are in same plane.
Stems are strong with excellent poise and short necks. Fertile both ways. Nothing else like. Stock is scarce just yet. Amazing. Was
Reed 2002-143-1
Inner Glow x Harold’s Cross Late-Mid Season $ 30.00
RIVER CROSSING 3W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) From a cross to develop a 3W-P comes a vigorous high quality 3W-Y. Greatly admired by Cynthia Haeffner. Stock is ample and
every bloom can be shown. Parentage is similar to the pollen parent of Brooke Ager. Named for a new foot bridge at my alma mater
that crosses the St. Joseph River between the school I.U.S.B and its first ever student housing. Was Reed 81-123-1.
(Coral Light x My Word) Late Midseason $ 6.00
RED PASSION 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) These flowers stand tall on strong stems with excellent poise. The overlapping petals give a round appearance and the bowl shaped
cup is a nice shade of bright red. This is my best show quality early red-pink to date. On seeing it one can understand how it got its
name! Was Reed 98-179-1. Listed again as it has increased well.
[88-93-5 (Evan’s W2 x Magician) x Celestial Flame] Midseason $18.00
REQUIEM 3Y-GYO (Mrs. Goethe Link, USA)
I consider this the finest creation of Helens never offered before. The petals take time to color up the light yellow here. Outstanding
and beautiful. Limted Stock.
Tynemouth x Altruist Late Midseason $14.00
ROCKNE 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Knute Rockne was the most outstanding football coach that the University of Notre Dame ever had. I grew up in the shadow of the
school’s Golden Dome. I have had the pleasure to work with one of his nieces, Josephine Copeland and this flower has been named to
honor her and her family. A very imposing late all yellow of the highest show quality. The massive, overlapping major petals make
this a division 2 instead of a 1. One of the finest late midseason all-yellow daffodils for show and garden. Was Reed 85-7-3.
(Golden Jewel x Dream Prince) Late Midseason $ 8.00
ROSE LAKE 2W-P (Grant E. Mitsch, USA) For show and garden. Vigorous.

RUBY RED 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
The name says it all. Performance is variable but fantastic color at times and an amazing breeder. Inspired by Dorothy’s slippers in the
Wizard of Oz and the intense color that is easily visible at a distance, a brilliant ruby-red. Vigorous, rot resistant and somewhat
rough, it is passing this color on to its seedlings. Some of these with Culmination have a warm pink perianth. Good stock due to
retention for breeding, giving 2 Y-Ps, too. Far better stem and poise than Spaceship. This is the parent of Millennium Red. Was
Reed seedling 81-176-1.
(Spaceship x Duncan seedling) Late Midseason $ 4.00
RURAL KING 1Y-P (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Named for the farm store that I use all the time for daffodil related supplies. Not of the highest quality for smoothness like Coloma but
large, vigorous and very intensely colored. A reddish pink trumpet. Very floriferous and a great increaser too. Was Reed 98-74-2
84-126-1 (Lorikeet x Memento) x 87-84-1 (Nanushka x Lorikeet)
Midseason $ 18.00
RUSTY DOODLE 2O-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
From a very prolific cross, the second to be named out of 900 seedlings. Not an intense orange to the perianth but a dull orange.
The flower is very well formed and round with well overlapping petals. The corona is very circular and solid orange in color.

SIMPLY STUNNING 1Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Combining the size of Arkle and the smoothness of Dream Prince, this flower took Spud Brogden’s eye when it was at the National
Show. Its stem is strong with a good upward presentation. It is a slow increaser but healthy and a good parent. It was the only
selection kept of 2 years of crosses. Finally released but the stock is still small. Was Reed seedling 90-12- 1.

capture its true color intensity. Show flower and garden too.
Parentage unknown Midseason $8.00
SUDDEN IMPACT 3W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
This is the best most dramatic show flower from division three that I have raised. Mistakenly listed as a division two when registered.
When seen by Peter Ramsay at my farm it made such a “Sudden Impact” on him that he threw one of my flag makers at it declaring
that he wanted that one! It was in the single bulb stage when he did this in 2009. There is now enough to list it. The very large flowers
are of imposing proportions with wide spread overlapping petals and excellent smoothness. The corona is a true bowl shape cup rather
than a flaring type seen on most division three daffodils. The colors are dramatically bright. Fertile both ways. Only a few to go this
year. Was Reed 2003-100-1
97-32-3 (Dunley Hall x Three Oaks) x 95-26-1 (Dunley Hall x Irish Affair) Late Midseason $ 65.00
SUPER HERO 2W-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) A proven parent and good garden flower with strong tall stems that consistently hold well-colored large blooms. In 2006 its offspring
gave me the largest and best formed strong red colored division 2 seedling of trumpet character that I have seen. This seedling is truly
a Super Hero. Was Reed 92-170-1.
(Ken’s Favorite x Magician) Late Midseason $ 5.00
TABOR HILL 2W-P(O) (Dr. John Reed, USA) Displaying outstanding show form and it has a unique orangish-pink cup color. This attractive corona has a slightly rolled lip. It has
been very healthy and is increasing well. Fertile both ways. Other pinks with orange hues are coming on here and are being bred with
it, including a full trumpet from red-pink breeding. In the tradition of its seed parent, it is named for a local southwestern Michigan
winery. Rated highly by several ADS judges. A must for Show. See the photo in DaffSeek.

TANAGER LANE 8W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Until this selection flowered I had come to believe collecting o.p. Matador seed was not useful. Through the years this selection has
developed into an improvement over Matador. The lighter petals qualify it as a definite 8W-O and the flowers are nicely formed and
“fertile.” A very large bulb can have up to 8 florets on it. Has produced outstanding deeply colored 8Y-R’s. Dr. Frank Gaylon was
interested enough to inquire about it and was given a bulb before his stroke and death. Named in honor for his home address. Stock
small. Was Reed 84-212-1.
(Matador open-pollinated) Midseason $13.00
TANGERINE DELIGHT 1W-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
First flowering in 2004, it was an eagerly awaited outcome from my 25 year effort to breed strong vigorous show quality white orange
trumpets in my climate. This cross gave many nice flowers in division 1 and 2 but Tangerine Delight is the best. It is well-formed,
has large flowers that are held on strong tall stems with excellent poise. The overlapping flat perianth segments are very white and its
flared trumpet is a delightful shade of tangerine orange. Jason Delaney’s photos taken in 80 degree heat says it all. Great!! Fertile
both ways. . Was 98-32-2.
(Orange Tint x Lutana) Early Midseason $ 30.00
TANZEY GIRL 2W-OOY (Spud Brogden,NI, NZ) One of the most outstanding daffodils grown at Oakwood with vigor, health, tall stems and color. An excellent breeder and very
distinctive too. A must for the garden and breeding.
[(Motif x Avenger) x Crimpeline] Late Midseason $ 6.00

TARNISHED GOLD 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Until I first saw this daffodil in flower in 1990 the word golden daffodils could only conger up an intense yellow bloom. But this
flower truly is a golden color hence its name. Planted adjacent to Goldfinger for a few years it made that flower seem pale! Would be
a trumpet except for its huge perianth inherited from Gold Convention. Breeding deeper color. Can be shown. Formerly Reed 83-36-
1.
(Temple Gold x Gold Convention) Midseason $ 6.00
TERMINATOR 2 Y-R (Davis Jackson, Tas,AUS)
Robust, strong growing large exhibition daffodils. Many best in show awards including 5 years ago at the ADS National. Better
blooms are obtained when well-watered and wind protected.
Seedling 15/89 Early-Midseason $ 6.00
THREE OAKS 1W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) A very consistent show flower and breeder of the highest quality. with a smooth overlapping perianth that has a light yellow corona.
An awesome breeder and show flower. Should be grown by all Fantastic-Admired by Peter Ransey. Was Seedling 89-21-1.
(Bravoure x Pops Legacy) Midseason $ 8.00
THUNDER ROLL 1Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA) I saw Uncle Duncan in flower for the first time at Steve Vinisky’s place on the World Daffodil Tour 1994. I knew I had to use it in
breeding the perfect orange trumpet. Using my deepest colored 1 Y-R seedling in 1995, it was crossed with my first Uncle Duncan
bloom. John Pearson rated this seedling as very good and near tops in color for show blooms when he first flowered it. Tall stems
show well colored high quality blooms. The overlapping very smooth petals display the deep orange-red trumpets nicely. Named for a
catchy county western song sung by one of Sandy’s favorite singers, Garth Brooks. Was Reed Seedling 95-111-1.
Uncle Duncan x 87-19-4 (Trumpet Call x Glenfarclas) Early Midseason $24.00
TOM TERRIFIC 11a Y-R (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Simply put a terrific intermediate daffodil. Small blooms with perfect split coronas on tall, strong stems. It increases well and is
healthy. For the garden and show. You’ll love it. Won Best in Show in Baltimore two years ago. Named for a childhood cartoon
character. Was Reed 95-101-1.
Boslowick x Sunstroke Midseason $18.00
TRISTAN’S MEMORY 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) Brian Duncan stated many years ago that while Golden Joy was the best 2Y-Y show flower at the time, he had never raised anything
worthwhile from it, only from its siblings, Golden Jewel. When this flowered, I was impressed enough to keep it. The tall stems and
excellent poise displayed a flower of extremely nice show form. I shared it with Dick and Elise Havens and when I visited in 2000, it
was a small stock in their fields, looking even better there. Graham Phillips, when he visited in 2006 showed me a photo of the now
larger stock. Bill Lee, our former ADS Journal editor, chose it for a memoriam to his late canine companion Tristan. When seen by
David Adams in a recent visit to Bill’s he was impressed with it too. Very healthy and great in the garden here. Many Best in Show
Awards released this year. Was Reed 83-97-1
Golden Joy o.p Midseason $7.00
TUSCORORA 1 Y-Y (Dr. William Bender, USA)

Excellent smooth show flower, a must for breeders.
Gold Bank x Daydream Midseason $9.00
VALLEY MOON 1YYW-Y (Colin Crotty, SI,NZ)
I’m attracted to very pale yellow flowers and this is one of the best I’ve seen. For practical purposes there is no white halo seen here.
Very large blooms are held on strong stems with excellent poise! A wide smooth flat perianth graces a tubular trumpet that expands at
its opening. Great Flower!!
(Breeding unknown) Midseason $ 12.00
VERA ROBBINS 3W-GWW (Dr. John Reed, USA)
Named for my wonderful mother-in-law. This is my best show 3W-W. Very round blooms are held high on tall stems. A healthy
plant. Was Reed seedling 85-100-2.
(Verona x Achnasheen) Early Late Season $ 7.00
VERNAL PRINCE 3W-GYY (Tom Bloomer, N. Ire, UK) Brilliantly colored with tall stems and excellent poise. Great for show and garden.

WAYNE’S WORLD 6Y-O (Dr. John Reed, USA)
In 1984 some of the N. cyclamineus pollen was applied to Monal. Only a few seeds were collected and 3 seedlings germinated. They
have been very slow growing but healthy. And worth the wait. Its wide, overlapping, smooth reflexing perianth is the perfect foil for
the symmetrical glowing medium sized cup. It has won a number of awards under seedling number. The blooms are of medium size.
The late Wayne Steel of California liked Monal ( Its seed parent) enough that I had to dig a lot of bulbs of it for him to pot up and
pre-cool to give to potential new ADS members. When the bulb of 84- 49-1 first flowered for him, he was excited enough to send an
e-mail photo to us. In the same e-mail files downloaded that day we learned we were going to be grandparents. As Monal and this
offspring were a small but exciting part of his world, it seems appropriate to register it as Wayne’s World. Now consider the best 6 Y-
O in the Northern Hemisphere Also with the thought of recent pop movie by the same name. Was Reed 84-49-1.
Monal x N. cyclamineus Early Season $ 14.00
WESTMINSTER PINK 2W-P (Dr. John Reed, USA) This flower was in bloom in April when the royal wedding took place in Westminster Abbey. It was named to honor that event.
Grown for many seasons, it consistently has given good-sized blooms on tall strong stems with excellent smooth, overlapping petals
of pure white and a trumpet shaped cup of a pure light pink. Was Reed seedling 93-20-1.
(Breeding unknown) Early Midseason $7.00
WHITE COLLAR 1 W-YYW (Dr. John Reed, USA)
From a cross that has given many beautiful flowers. As the flowers age the distinct outer white rim develops on the long trumpet. An
excellent show flower with respect to smoothness, petal overlap, and white petal colors, The long trumpet is held well with strong
stems and an excellent poise. Was Reed 98-26-10 Registered 2011.
Three Oaks x Irish Affair Mid-Season $15.00
WHITE STORK 1W-W (Dr. John Reed, USA)
The long narrow trumpet made me think of a stork when I named it. Show quality with wide perianth segments overlapping well all
in the same plane. The stems are tall, and strong displaying the flowers with an upward poise. The stems a light green, that I find
pleasing. Contrasting stem is the same shade. It can be shown and is a hit in the garden too. Distinctive, slower growing . Was Reed
85-81-1 Registered in 2003.
Pitchroy x Tradewind Mid- Season $11.00
WINDY CITY 1W-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
At the 2009 National ADS Show at the Chicago Botanical Gardens, this daffodil under seedling number received five awards
including the White Ribbon and the Rose Ribbon for Best Seedling in show. The White Ribbon “set of three” graced the cover of the
June 2009 ADS Journal. Tall strong stems support very wide smooth white petals and a gently flared bright yellow trumpet. The neck
is short and poise is excellent. Combining the best features of both parents, it is logical progression in breeding my ideal 1 W-Y. It is
very pleasing, consistent, health shoe flower. To honor the Chicago National ADS Show, Bob Spotts suggested the name “Windy
City” Was Reed 97-163-1.
Irish Affair Sibling x Three Oaks Early Season $ 40.00
WOW! 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA) The name says it all! That is exactly what I said when I first saw it in bloom and the name has stuck (all the letters are capitalized!)
Though of trumpet character, it measures division 2. Its overlapping petals are very wide, smooth and very flat in the same plane and
very consistent from year to year and flower to flower. A slow increaser. Its offspring are showing its best characteristics, especially
those crossed with Millennium Perfection. Was Reed seedling 93-18-1.
(Goldfinger x Dream Prince) Early Midseason $ 38.00
WYONG 2W-Y (D Jackson, Tas, AUS) One of the Jacksons’ finest daffodils. Very large on strong stems. Passing its best quality’s on to its offspring.
(Jackson 36/83 x 43/86) Early Midseason $ 17.00
YELLOW IVORY 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A SUPER smooth show flower. It was awarded a best in show for Kirby Fong, in its first year with him. Very pale long yellow corona
sits against a light ivory perianth. With enough time and warmth the corona will develop some pink color. Very consistent from year
to year, flower to flower! Was Reed seedling 92-71-1.
(Memento x Nanushca) Early Midseason $ 8.00
YELLOW SATIN 2Y-Y (Dr. John Reed, USA)
A tall, large outstanding show flower with a name that says it all. The petals overlap but not massive. A refined, slower growing but
healthy cultivar. Admired by Bob Huesman. Was Reed 83-6-1.
(Meldrum x Gold Convention) Midseason $ 7.00
ZOMBIE 11a W-Y (David Jackson, Tas, AUS)
Very large, impressive blooms for garden and show. Supported on strong stems.

ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SYSTEM OF DAFFODIL CLASSIFICATION
The classification of daffodils has changed many times over the years. The present system combines the RHS classification of thirteen
divisions based on form and species heritage with Dr. Throckmorton’s color coding from the American Daffodil Society. This combined
system gives us a very useful tool for describing daffodils quickly. A single letter denotes a color and its appropriate location as found in
the flower, first in the perianth and then in the corona. W=White Y=Yellow G=Green O=Orange R=Red P=Pink
For example: Arctic Gold is classified as a 1Y-Y. It is a trumpet daffodil with yellow petals and a yellow corona. Misty Glen is
classified as a 2W-GWW. It is a large-cupped daffodil with white petals and a green-eyed white cup. First Born classified as a 6Y-GYP.
It is a cyclamineus hybrid with swept-back, yellow petals and the corona has a greenish eye with a small transition of light yellow going
to a deep pink color extending to the edge of the cup.
Division 1 Trumpet Daffodils: The trumpet (corona) is equal to, or longer than, the petal (perianth) segments.
Division 2 Large-Cupped Daffodils: The cup (corona) is less than the length of the petals (perianth) but more than a
third.
Division 3 Small-Cupped Daffodils: The cup (corona) is equal to, or less than a third, of the petal (perianth) length.
Division 4 Double Daffodils: This division is for all forms of double flowers where there is more than one set of petal
or coronal segments, or both.
Division 5 Triandrus Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. triandrus characteristics.
Division 6 Cyclamineus Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. cyclamineus characteristics.
Division 7 Jonquilla Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. jonquilla characteristics.
Division 8 Tazetta Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. tazetta characteristics. The stems usually will
have multiple flowers. Also known as poetaz daffodils.
Division 9 Poeticus Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. poeticus characteristics.
Division 10 Bulbocodium Daffodils: hybrid daffodils that predominate with N. bulbocodium characteristics.
Division 11 Split-corona Daffodils: the cup (corona) that is split for more than a half of its length. This division has
two subdivisions:
11a: Collar Daffodils have the corona segments opposite to the perianth segments.
11b: Papillion Daffodils have the corona segments alternating to the perianth segments
Division 12 Miscellaneous Daffodils: those that cannot be classified within the preceding divisions.
Division 13 Species Daffodils: those distinguished solely by botanical name—the wild ones.

LARRY WIER’S DAFFODILS 2017
My daffodil friend, Larry Wier, who has been breeding and selecting seedlings for 20 years, offers the following introductions. His
standards are very high and you can be sure that his flowers are superior, distinctive, and healthy. He has acquired some of Charles
Wheatley’s stocks and is introducing them, as well. I’m adding a five dollar flat rate fee for shipping as the costs keep going up.
THE BULBS LISTED BELOW ARE FROM LARRY. ORDERS FOR THEM AND PAYMENT BY CHECK SHOULD GO
TO LARRY WIER, 13469 NORTH MAIN ROAD, BUCHANAN, MI 49107-9149, USA. Larry’s phone is: (269) 695-6486.
AFTER HOUR’S 2W-P (Larry Wier, USA)
For this flower ‘Arctic Char’ was used because of its perianth, and ‘Spritely’ because of its good pink color. Perianth segments are
flat and of very good substance with inner petals spade shaped. Cup is gently expanding with a very good intense color for an
early pink in Michigan. Stems are tall. Dr. Reed selected this one from a fairly large number of seedlings from my cross. Was Wier
90-5 Name Pending
Arctic Char x Spritely Early Season $15.00
AMIMAL CRACKERS 2 Y-YW-WWY ( Larry Wier, USA)
This name was chosen from the Marx Brothers as only they would mix sweets and liquor, the parents of this beautiful blossom. The
perianth segments are very found and large. The medium sized cup expands slightly to the mouth where it is flanged. As with most
reverses, it opens all yellow and takes time to mature with the small yellow rim. A show flower. Was seedling 88- 2. Resists rot well
so far.
(Lemon Candy x Gin and Lime) Midseason $10.00
FLASHPOINT 1W-P (Larry Wier, USA) The white perianth with ovate segments of good substance are the background for a trumpet that tapers gradually making for a more
massive corona. This trumpet is darker pink inside and has a fairly heavy frill at the mouth. A climate milder that Michigan’s will
result in bigger and better colored flowers. A vigorous grower here (This was the “flash point” that Larry needed to start registering
his daffodils. Almost a red-pink in the best of years—JR)
(Magician x Melancholy) Midseason $ 10.00
MAKER’S MARK 1Y-O (Larry Wier, USA) This is Larry’s most successful cross so far to get a better colored show flower here in the orange trumpets. The strong yellow color
of the overlapping perianth is a good foil to the cylindrical shaped corona with little expansion of the trumpet. The perianth is not
starry nor widely overlapping but very pleasing. The stems are tall and strong with bulbs having good increase. Breeding both 1 and
2 Y-Os. A well-grown specimen won the Single Bloom 1 Y-O class at the National ADS Show in St. Louis, beating Magic Lantern.
Was Wier 87-1. Proving to be a good parent for Peter Ramsay.
(Glenfarclas x Trumpet Call) Midseason $ 7.00 or 3 for $15.00
MERLIN’S PAL 3W-YYO (Charles Wheatly, USA) This flower is another tribute to Charlie’s breeding skill. Blossoms are quite large, bigger than both parents. Tall flower stems in the
field makes these bright showy blossoms easy to find. This division 3 small cup has size and beauty to spare. Was seedling 89-98-1.
(Merlin x Palmyra) Midseason $ 12.00
MINERAL WELLS (previously WINTER MOON) 1W-Y (Larry Wier, USA)
This white perianth is quite rounded with spade-shaped segments (no double triangles here). The medium bright lemon trumpet has
length to spare making for a good bicolor blossom. The corona is more narrow than average with a frill at the mouth. Color has been
good in Michigan’s climate. Was Seedling # 89-3
(Tudor Dance x Helsal) Midseason $ 9.00
OUTER RIM 1W-W (Larry Wier, USA)
This flower has inherited the best characteristics of both of its parents. Especially a true and pure white color. Inner petals are
spade shaped and almost touching. The trumpet is expanding to a moderate flange that is slightly frilled.
Is stocky in overall shape. This blossom was the real star of seven selections form this cross. Seedling number 91-4.
(Pitchroy x Lady Slim) Midseason $ 10.00
PINK SUNDAY 2W-P (Charles Wheatly, USA) The red-pink color of this bowl-shaped cup against the rounded and wide petaled perianth of this flower is its major attraction.
Refrain as the seed parent has provided form. Artful as the pollen parent has added to a beautiful cup color. (Was Seedling # 91-82-
13).
(Refrain x Artful) Midseason $ 10.00
