Stoves – a part of the solutionStoves should be selected for the totalbenefit of being clean burning, energyefficient, suitable for local fuel, adaptable for households, and easy to
produce or duplicate locally.
Household Energy – local resourcesand appropriate technologyThe developing world needs alternativesources of energy to replace charcoaland firewood. The existing energy
business should be engaged with andsupported in order to switch to moresustainable types of fuel.
The Peko Pe stove
Invented by Paal Wendelbo in
the early 90’s. Named Peko
Pe (No Problem) by women inAjumani refugee camp,Uganda. The Peko Pe was
the first to be put into practicalaction based on pyrolytic
gasification technology.
Real Carbon ++ and soil benefitsGasifier stoves produce a carbon richbi-product which is known as biochar. When added to soils, it can sequester
carbon for hundreds of years. Theamount of carbon sequestered can bemeasured directly as - Real CarbonOffsets. In addition to land useemission reductions by using gasifierunits, this makes the Green SolutionConcept highly relevant for inclusion incarbon offset programs, as well aspreventing soil degradation.

Miombo is a non-profit NGO located in Norway providing technical assistance on rural developmentbased on the principles of economic, ecological and social sustainability. We focus on forest andwater resources as the foundation for a stable climate, food production and social welfare.
Miombo has identified the improvement of the household energy sector as a leverage point foraddressing a cluster of other development priorities including health, gender issues, naturalresources management and climate change.
Miombo promote The Green Solution Concept, which aims to develop a sustainable system basedon pyrolytic gasifier stoves combined with suitable processed biomass, being clean burning, energyefficient, adaptable for households, and easy to produce or duplicate locally by the existing stove andenergy market, as well as utilizing the opportunites of biochar. The Peko Pe stove, invented by thearchitect Paal Wendelbo, is one of the most promising cooking stove design currently available forsuch a concept.
