Caroline Keenan

Data Protection – Why..?The Data Protection Act 1998 requires that you process all personal data in accordance with 8 principles:

1. Personal information must be fairly and lawfully processed2. Personal information must be processed for limited purposes3. Personal information must be adequate, relevant and not

excessive4. Personal information must be accurate and up to date5. Personal information must not be kept for longer than

necessary6. Personal information must be processed in line with data

subject's rights7. Personal information must be secure8. Personal data must not be transferred to other countries

without adequate protection

Data Protection – What..? What we need to do

• Ensure that we take adequate measures that the data we hold about our customers is used only for the purpose it was provided and that we ensure only relevant individuals have access to this information for the purpose of going about the business of a Greensleeves franchisee, i.e. abide by the 8 principles.

• Notify the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a data controller.

Data Protection – How..? How do we accomplish this

• Head office have had a standard notification document prepared that is specific to our business.

• Each franchisee needs to complete this form and submit it to the ICO along with an annual fee of £35.00.

• Each franchisee will then appear on the ICO register.

• There is a pack here for all to take away including instructions on the form completion and where to send it etc.

Data Protection – And if not..? What are the implications of not complying

• We will check the ICO register on 28th February 2013 to make sure every franchisee has successfully registered as a data controller.

• If any franchisee has not registered I will be in touch to help with any problems encountered.

• Franchisees who are not registered are breaking the law.• We break the law every time we pass details of a potential

new customer to you if you are not registered.

• THIS IS NOT AN OPTION• ACT NOW TO ENSURE WE ARE ABLE TO PROMTLY PASS

DETAILS OF NEW CUSTOMER LEADS TO YOU

Thank you for your time.
