What Is Green To Gold
An ROTC program for Active Duty soldiers to complete a
bachelor or master’s degree and earn an Army commission
• Must be a full-time student (no online programs)
• At a college that offers Army ROTC
• Pursuing an approved degree
After graduation and commissioning ROTC graduates serve in:
• Active Army, Army Reserves or National Guard

Green To Gold Options There are three Green To Gold Options:
Active Duty Option
Scholarship Option
Non-Scholarship Option
You may be eligible for more than one
option

Active Duty OptionAn ROTC program for Active Duty soldiers to complete the last 2 years of a bachelor or master’s degree and earn an Army commission while remaining on Active Duty
Soldiers remain on Active Duty and are assigned to the Student Detachment at Ft. Jackson for administrative purposes
Active Duty Option is highly competitive – 200 slots open each year
Selectee Profile: APFT 278 GT 119 GPA 3.32
Keep current rank and continue to accrue time in service
Keep current pay and allowances (VAH, BAH, etc.)
Keep current health insurance, life insurance, all benefits
Continue to accrue (and use) ordinary leave
Your duty station is COLLEGE.

Scholarship OptionAn ROTC program to discharge soldiers for the purpose of attending college full time to earn a bachelor or master’s degree and obtain an Army commission with a full scholarship
Discharged under AR 635-200, Chapter 16-2
Scholarships are 2, 3, or 4 years in length
Soldiers are contracted with ROTC but are no longer on Active Duty
ROTC scholarships are competitive – approx 750 each year
Winner Profile (3 year): APFT 271 GT 120 GPA 3.35
( 4 year): APFT 290 GT 124 GPA 3.25

Full tuition plus all mandatory fees
$1200 per year book allowance

room & board – your choice

Must have 2 years or 60 college credit hours completed
Must be able to graduate in 2 years with no summer school
Soldiers are contracted with ROTC but are no longer on Active Duty
Non-scholarship ROTC slots are non-competitive –
Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements are accepted

Why would you consider the Non-Scholarship Option?
Entry is non-competitive: if you meet the requirements, you’re in
Eligibility requirements are less restrictive than the other options
• 2.0 GPA versus 2.5 GPA for other programs
• Age up to 34 versus 31-32 for other options
Can start college in Spring or Fall semester
Can participate in National Guard or Army Reserve at the same time
(provides tuition assistance( providing a state school and available funds), and drill pay) under the
Simultaneous Membership Program

Simultaneous Membership Program
Cadets serve simultaneously in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard
Provides additional financial benefits as well as continued military experience
Cadets in the SMP are non-deployable assets
Cadets are paid at E-5 rate (or higher) for drill and Annual Training
Cadets are mentored by commissioned officers in their units
Financial Benefits in addition to ROTC Incentives
$286 monthly drill pay (E-5 w/3yr TIS pay)

□ No permanent profiles
□ HS graduate
□ Eligible to reenlist – no bars or flags
□ No domestic violence record
□ Medically qualified – pass a DODMERB physical for ROTC
□ Be accepted by the college you plan to attend

No more than 3 dependents including spouse
Under 35 (ADO, non-scholarship only) at time of commission
(Under 31 for scholarship is not waivable)
No more than 10 years AFS

□ Must be accepted as an unconditional Junior at the University
□ College GPA of 2.5 or higher
□ Under age 35 at time of commissioning (waiver to 39 possible)
□ Less than 10 years AFS at commissioning (Exception to policy possible)
Scholarship Option
□ College GPA of 2.5 or higher (for 2 or 3 year scholarship)
□ HS GPA of 2.5 or higher (for 4 year scholarship)
□ ACT score of 19 or SAT of 920 (math and verbal) (4 yr scholar’)
□ Under age 31 on 31 DEC of your graduation year
Non-Scholarship Option
□ Must be accepted as an unconditional Junior at the University
