What is a green roof?• A green roof is a vegetative

barrier on top of a traditional rooftop.

• Environmental benefits include:

Reduced heating/cooling costs

Filtration of runoff storm water

Reduction of the urban heat island

Carbon sequestration.

• Green roofs also substantially increase the lifespan of traditional rooftops!

The Vision:Our Big Idea entails the construction of a green roof on Clark’s

campus.

o This roof will act as a green communal space, to be enjoyed by the entire Clark community

o It will provide a unique environmental research tool to be utilized by the Clark community.

o It will be a firm demonstration of Clark’s commitment to environmental sustainability Constructing A Green Roof

Social BenefitsAn accessible green rooftop will provide a unique

communal space, to be utilized for social, as well as academic purposes.

Take the AC + Put it on a Roof + Add Greenery = Our Big Idea!!!

Where Do We Go From Here? • The Big Idea contest will provide

us with the support needed to implement this project, as it will demonstrate the enthusiasm of the entire Clark community.

• The construction of a green roof will require significant levels of planning, involving a variety of bodies.

• With the funds provided by the Big Idea contest, we will be able to develop a complete plan of action for the construction of a green roof on campus.

• The Big Idea contest will provide the initial seed money to make this idea a reality.

• More Specifically it will fund:

the hiring of a structural engineer and a green roof architect to determine the most desirable rooftop on Clark’s campus.

a comprehensive construction blueprint

a computer-generated model of the layout of the green rooftop.
