Radial Outflow Turbine into the marketplace.

EXERGY become part of the Maccaferri Industrial

Group. Backed by the strong economical and organizational support

of the Maccaferri Group EXERGY start a period of rapid expansion and success in the market.

In September Exergy start up in Verbania the

first high enthalpy 1 MW Radial Outflow Turbine.

EXERGY install the world’s first Radial

Outflow Turbine in a geothermal binary plant

in Tuscany. The project is developed for the

Bagnore III power plant in Mount Amiata (Italy)

for Enel Green Power and represents a giant leap

forward for green energy allowing utilisation of

the untapped potential of an existing geothermal

resource.

Pamukören 1 and Pamukören 2, EXERGY’s

first geothermal projects in Turkey, in Menderes

Basin area, become operational. This project

was commissioned by Çelikler Jeotermal and EXERGY participated in

a Consortium with other partner companies.

In June EXERGY move to a custom-built

facility near Malpensa gathering all engineering,

manufacturing and operational functions to allow the R&D and engineering team to

work side by side with the manufacturing

department.

EXERGY experience consistent growth and success in the Turkish

market, winning key contracts and becoming established as a market leader for binary power

plant equipment.

In July EXERGY open a Turkish subsidiary

company based in the city of Izmir in order to

start local manufacturing of the EXERGY Radial Outflow Turbine and

directly serve the Turkish market.

In June the Denizli Tosunlar geothermal

power plant, the world’s first equipped with a

2-pressure-level cycle on a radial outflow

single-disk turbine, becomes operational.

This plant, commissioned by the client Akça Enerji,

represents a unique technological milestone for EXERGY confirming

the company at the forefront of innovation.

cycle. The main difference is the use of organic substances as working fluid, such as hydrocarbons and refrigerants, instead of water or steam. The organic working fluid has a lower boiling point and a higher vapour pressure than water and is thus able to use low temperature heat sources to produce electricity in a more

efficient way.The fluid is chosen to best fit the heat source according to their differing thermodynamic properties, thus obtaining higher efficiencies. Moreover ORC can also be an ideal solution when the size of the application is too small for a steam power plant to be feasible.

1 The heat exchanger recovers heat from the primary source transferring it to a heat transfer fluid (hTF) 2 The organic fluid warms up in the preheater and vaporizes in the evaporator, extracting heat from the hTF, which returns to the heat exchanger 3 The vapour expands in the turbine, which produces electricity through the generator 4 Recuperator recovers the high-temperature heat still available in the vapor at turbine outlet transferring it to the organic liquid before the preheater 5 The condenser extracts the low temperature heat and turns the vapor back into liquid state 6 The pump increases the fluid pressure sending it to the recuperator, thus closing the cycle.

Designed by EXERGY, the Radial Outflow Turbine is a technology unique to EXERGY ORC power plants. EXERGY CEO Claudio Spadacini first conceptualized the idea of the ROT and launched it in the market and thus making a world first in the ORC industry.

Enel Green power was looking to exploit the untapped potential of an existing geothermal source in Tuscany. Enel Green power needed a compact binary plant integrated with a 20 MW single flash plant already in place.

EXERGY’s solution was a fully integrated cycle system that, thanks to its technological innovation, offers the possibility to use a geothermal source until now unsuitable due to low temperature of the primary fluid (100°C - 180°C).

EXERGY has provided superior energy efficiency compared to traditional solutions and the plant now produces electricity to approximately 2,500 households thus preventing the consumption of 1,600 tons of oil equivalent per year.

Çelikler Jeotermal Elektrik Üretim a.s is active in the energy, construction and mining sectors. Çelikler were looking for a solution to generate a total of 120 MW over 6 new geothermal power plants.

The solution proposed by EXERGY was an intelligent plant design supplying higher efficiency. EXERGY, working in a consortium with experienced partners, were responsible for the process design and supply of the entire power cycle.

Çelikler is one of the biggest player in binary geothermal energy production in Turkey today, delivering more than 1000 GWh per year to the Turkish energy grid, thanks to the pamukören and sultanhisar projects in collaboration with EXERGY. The plant has also received awards for best energy efficiency and renewable energy projects financed in Turkey in 2015.

The client is part of the Akça holding, Turkish diversified business extending from textile industry to agribusiness. in this case the client was looking for the best solution to utilize the untapped potential of an existing geothermal source, due to low temperature of the primary fluid(105°C/220°f)

EXErGy’s solution was the world first installation equipped with 2 pressure level cycle on a single disk turbine.The turbine fed by high and low pressure organic fluid steam, drives a generator to produce electrical power.

The plant produces electricity saving 5,250 tons of oil equivalent per year.The Akça plant is the world’s first low enthalpy geothermal plant utilizing a 2 pressure level cycle on a single disk turbine.The plant has been awarded the EGEC European innovation Geothermal Award as the best innovation in the geothermal sector in 2016.

the client, Danieli environment, is the division of Danieli specialized in the environmental protection offering proprietary technologies for water treatment, air pollution control, energy saving, and more. the final user is aBS acciaierie, a steel mill plant located in the north of italy.the client was looking for ways to improve the energy efficiency of the final user as well as reducing the impact on the environment of the plant.

eXergy’s solution was the installation of the orc system for waste heat recovery with eXergy’s radial outflow turbine. the orc system is applied to the electric arc furnace (eaF) and, by exploiting the hot waste gas generated by the steel mill, it produces 1 mWe.

the client is able to recover the maximum amount of energy, thus increasing the electric efficiency of the installation and saving 1,500 tons of oil equivalent per year.

Area Impianti is an Italian solution provider for flue gas treatment and heat recovery systems. the final user is Şişecam, turkish leader in glass production. Şişecam was looking to increase energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the industrial process.

exergy, together with Area Impianti provided 3 orc based heat recovery systems to be installed at existing glass plants: 2 in turkey and 1 in Bulgaria, tărgovište. the solution realized in tărgovište exploits the hot fumes generated to produce 5 mWe of electrical power.

Energia Vulture alto Bradano S.r.l had two main needs, to dispose of waste from grape and olive production and waste from the local wood processing industry, using environmentally suitable methods.the second need was to increase their profitability by giving electricity back to the grid.

EXErgy provided a packaged orc unit that combined with a thermal oil boiler, efficiently converts the agricultural waste into electricity.

the biomass plant is fully operating and is producing 990 kWe with a 24% efficiency of the radial outflow turbine.
