With a name that means “the voices blending together in warmth,” Na Leo is one of the most popular — and most award-winning — female Hawaiian group in the world. Consisting of three childhood

friends, Nalani Choy, Lehua Kalima, and Angela Morales, the group had its first hit, “Local Boys,” when the friends were still teenagers. Today, they jointly compose, write lyrics, record, and perform music.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the New Century Chamber Orchestra performs without a conductor and makes musical decisions collaboratively. Since 2008 the 19-member string ensemble

has been joined by world-renowned violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, who serves as Music Director and Concertmaster, and bringing what Gramophone called “a new sense of vitality and

determination.” Highlights of this seasonal program include the “Winter” sections of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Piazzolla’s Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.


It was in June of 1957 when Johnny Mathis appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, where he was launched as a national celebrity. Mathis went on to achieve household-name

status via a stream of albums featuring his unusually expressive voice in a wide range of romantic ballads, classic standards, and Broadway hits. An audience favorite now for

sound of the Nile Project is created by a stunning variety of instruments from Nile-basin countries, including the masenko from Ethiopia, the ney and oud from Egypt, and the adungu from Uganda — in

addition to violin, saxophone, bass guitar, and six vocalists singing in 11 languages.

With a distinguished career as a concert performer, teacher, researcher, and creator of new projects, both musical and cultural, Jordi Savall is one of the most gifted musicians of his generation. Together with his ensemble Hespèrian XXI, Savall performs Istanbul, a program featuring “music from the Ottoman Empire in dialogue with Armenian, Greek, and Sephardic traditions.” Drawing on Savall’s album of the same name, the program reflects the cultural melting pot that Istanbul was during its medieval heyday.

S C H R O E D E R H A L LThis fall, we OPEN the much-anticipated SCHROEDER HALL at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center. With 250 seats, the intimate, cathedral-like RECITAL HALL will be home to a new “SUNDAYS AT SCHROEDER” concert series, and to SSU’s music students and faculty. Among the hall’s str iking features is the centerpiece, a 1,248-pipe Brombaugh Opus 9 organ.

As an EXPANDED CLASSROOM, Schroeder Hall will be utilized by MUSIC department classes, rehearsals, recitals, and performances, becoming one of the largest academic spaces on campus.
