• AcademicsFirst thing college coaches look at before they can even talk to players.

• AthleticismDid you do everything you possibly could to better yourself on the field? What are your accolades? Are you being honest with yourself?

• CharacterWhat are your teachers going to say about you? What are your coaches going to say about you?

Choosing the right school. (4-5 yrs.)

• Do you have a major in mind?

• Public or private?

• In state or out of state?

• Surrounding area (rural, urban, suburban).

• Demographic.

• If you take football out of the equation, could you still see yourself going to that school?

• NO recruiting calendar – contact can be made with coaches year round.

• Can offer scholarships.

• Maintain above average grades (in and out of season).

• Search, register, and properly prepare for standardized tests (ACT & SAT).

• Create highlight film (Hudl – 5 min. max).

• Fill out recruit questionnaire.

• Contact coaches (call, email, social media). Create resume.

• Keep good rapport and contact with any and all schools interested.

• Be professional on visits/in front of ALL school personnel.

○ Eye contact and respectful

○ Ask questions about the school

○ Do some research

In person interactions.

• When introducing yourself: make good eye contact, speak your name clearly, and give a firm handshake.

• Give the person talking your undivided attention (Head coach, assistant coaches, academic advisors, student assistants, etc.) – STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONE!!!!

• Don’t be afraid to ask questions (do research on the school beforehand).

• Gather information (pamphlets, fliers, etc.).

• Dress nice.

• Stay in contact with parents, coaches, and guidance counselors.

• Monitor social media.

• Be supportive.

• Be realistic.

• Guide.

• Communicate with HS coaches in regards to recruiting services.

• Make sure the necessary paperwork is filled out, and turned in.

What will the coaches do?

• Monitor grades and classroom behavior.

• Contact schools.

• Use social media platforms to offer positive exposure.

• Be honest with college coaches.

• Offer insight and guidance to both athlete and parent.
