GREEN LINE LRT – 26 AVENUE SE TRANSMISSION LINE ALTERATION In 2016, the City of Calgary requested that ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX) alter its existing 2.83L transmission line to accommodate the new Green Line LRT project route between Inglewood and the 26 Avenue SE station in Ramsay. In June 2017, ENMAX began its participant involvement program for the proposed Green Line LRT – 26 Avenue SE Transmission Line Alteration Project (the Project). During the initial engagement in 2017, ENMAX received input regarding the originally proposed route that resulted in ENMAX revisiting the routing and design. As a result, ENMAX is now proposing two new route options for this Project, the Blackfoot Trail route, and the Portland Street route. STAKEHOLDER NEWSLETTER | OCTOBER 2019 PROPOSED SCHEDULE ENMAX plans to file the Facility Application with the Alberta Utilities Commission in Q1 2020. THE BLACKFOOT TRAIL ROUTE The proposed Blackfoot Trail route would require the removal of 32 existing wood poles along the existing transmission line. This proposed route would require the placement of 17 new self-supporting steel monopoles on a new route along Blackfoot Trail and 15 Street SE. The proposed new structures would be approximately 18 to 29 metres in height. The location of the existing transmission line and the proposed Blackfoot Trail route is shown on the map.

TRANSMISSION STRUCTURES

The current transmission wood poles range from approximately 14 to 25 metres in height. The proposed new poles would be self-supporting steel monopoles and range from approximately 18 to 37 metres in height, depending on the approved route. These pole heights allow for clearance above the LRT trains on the elevated platform.
