The Impact of Energy Savings

What if we still consumed energy at the same rate we did in 2000?• In 2008, our expenses would have been $856,000 higher.

The environmental impact?• This reduction in energy consumption has reduced our Greenhouse Gas Emissions (CO2) by 6,400 Metric Tons per year.

• Avoided Cost of $298,000 for 2008• Savings of 23 Million Gallons

Annually• What we are doing to reduce further:

– Installing low-flow toilets• Savings of 2.3 million gallons and $46,000

annually; 47% IRR)

– Planning to divert condensate and rain-water to our cooling towers.

• Potential savings of 8 million gallons and $154,000 per year

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)

Potential Funding for GA $82,495,000

Monies controlled in GA by GEFA – Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority

“Under the 2009 State Energy Program, GEFA intends to create several funding opportunities for state agencies, local governments, and private-sector entities. Opportunities for the private-sector will include loans and grants, and will be awarded through an open, competitive application process. Applications will be evaluated according to a series of criteria still under development. Criteria may include, but not limited to, estimates of job creation / retention, other economic benefits, energy saved, renewable energy generated, and other cost/benefit information”
