Asphalt Preservationor Rejuvenation
“(Has) the potential to extend the lifeof an asphalt pavement for several years beyond the point where rehabilitation, or major reconstruction would normally be required; thus, significantly decreasing the pavement’s annual maintenance costs.”Robert E. Boyer, Ph.D., P.E., the Asphalt Institute

A Bio-Based Solutionfor Preserving and helping roads and other paved surfaces last longer
Asphalt
Extends life of asphalt pavement
Only 10% of the cost of paving
Product of BioBased Spray Systems, LLC of Sidney, Ohio
BIORESTOR Is Goodfor the Environment
Made of 95% bio-based materials … soybean and other agricultural oils
No petroleum – no harmful runoff
Earned USDA BioPreferred™ status
Restores lost binding properties of asphalt
Protects pavement from oxidation Restores flexibility; prevents cracks and
raveling Seals the pavement; prevents potholes Prevents construction joint failure
BIORESTOR Is Easy to Apply
Penetrates and cures in 20-30 min. Minimizes road closures Pavement markings show through Requires no sand, cover aggregate Maintains safe friction values
BIORESTOR at its Best
Apply soon after paving, because…
Oxidation damage begins at hot mix production facility-8 micron film 325F 40-60% of damage in first 2-4 years Longer treatment delayed …
… $$$ repairs more likely
BIORESTOR Passesthe Test
Slowed deterioration by 40% over 7 years
BIORESTOR-treated section – 75 PCI – good condition
Untreated section – 64 PCI – fair condition

Longitudinal Joint Failures
Longitudinal Joint Failures
• Investigate the fundamental mechanisms of longitudinal joint failure.
• Evaluate available technologies and construction practices that may mitigate longitudinal joint failure.
• Recommend potential changes to TDOT specifications.

TENNESSEE QUALITY ASPHALT INITIATIVE (TQAI)
New Water Absorption TestDuring the course of the project, the University of Tennessee developed a new method to evaluate a joint sealer’s ability to prevent water absorption at the joint. They have found that rejuvenating oils prevent 80-90% of the capillary action of water.

Tar sealant is widely used, but there are serious environmental concerns with its use. Some states, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland just a few have already banned from using tar.

Dear Mr. Freisthler:
This letter serves as official notification that BioBased Spray Systems LLC is a participant in the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferredSM program. BioPreferred is a Federally-managed program that aims to increase the purchase and use of renewable, sustainable biobased products. Biobased products are defined by USDA as products that are composed in whole or in large part of agricultural or forestry materials. Biobased products may include plant, animal, or marine-based materials.BioPreferred works with manufacturers, such as BioBased Spray Systems LLC, distributors, and large-scale buyers (e.g. the government and commercial markets) to increase awareness, purchase, and use of biobased products. BioBased Spray Systems LLC manufactures biobased asphalt restorative products. Biobased asphalt restorers have not yet been designated by USDA for federal preferred procurement status. However, BioBased Spray Systems LLC’s Bio-Re-Stor asphalt sealer rejuvenator may qualify for this status when asphalt restorers are designated. I’m not able to indicate when this designation will occur. The area representative for BioBased Spray Systems LLC is Bioseal LLC, 19148 S. 104th Avenue, Mokena, Illinois 60448.Federal government agencies, military branches, and Federal contractors must give preferred purchasing preference for BioPreferred biobased products — various mandates, regulations, and Presidential Executive Orders (EO) document this. The President’s EO on Federal Sustainability (EO 13514 - Sept 2009) challenges the Federal government to lead by example, practice what we preach, and help build a clean energy economy through the way we operate. Over the coming years, we look forward to working with you to translate government greening policy into practice and to create lasting environmental change for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Ron BuckhaltBioPreferred Program [email protected]
