Election The upcoming Election is bipartisan. Primary August 29, 2017 General November 7, 2017 *Bad Officials are elected by good Citizens who do not vote!

Election Facts Did you Know?

Through the use of Poll Taxes, literacy test and other means, Southern States have effectively disenfranchised African Americans. It took the passage of the Voter Rights Act of 1965 before the majority of African Americans in the South were registered to vote. The Voting Rights Act transformed patterns of political power. By 1966, over half a million southern Blacks had registered to vote and by 1968, almost four hundred African Americans had been elected to office. As of June 20, 2017 in Pinellas County, there was a total of 644,128 registered voters. The breakdown is as follows: Republicans 230,805 Democrats 229,540 If you need to register to vote, please see Anna Herring in the Wellness Office after Worship.

REGISTERED AND READY TO VOTE. ARE YOU?

Sparkler and Fireworks Safety More than 50,000 fires are caused by fireworks every year. Take the proper precautions when operating fireworks: Never dis-assemble or try to

make your own fireworks. Don’t point sparklers, or fire-

works at yourself or others, especially while they’re being lit.

Only light fireworks on the ground and in areas that are dry and fire resistant.

Don’t attempt to light multiple devices at the same time.

Never allow young children to handle fireworks or sparklers

Always keep a portable fire extinguisher close by. Also keep a water hose or buckets of water nearby to put out fires.

Lord, thank you for this sink of dirty dishes; we have plenty of food to eat. Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry; we have plenty of nice clothes to wear. And I would like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds; they were so warm and comfortable last night. I know that many have no bed. My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom, complete with all the splattered mirrors, soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory; they are so convenient. Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs cleaning. It has served us faithfully for many years. It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals. Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today; it has baked so many things over the years. The whole family is grateful for that tall grass that needs mowing; we all enjoy the yard. My kids are healthy and able to run and play. Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says, You have richly blessed my family. I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully. Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf. Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind. Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden. Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, and tempers are short, my children are so loud, Thank you, Lord for my family. There are many who are lonely. Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times not balanced, there are many who are hungry. Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job. Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, Thank you, Lord for life.

The Christ Life

“Christ...is our life.” Colossians 3:4

Christ’s life was more than His teaching, more than His work, more than even His death. It was His life in the sight of God and man that gave value to what He said, did, and suffered. And it is this life, glorified in the resurrection, that He imparts to His people and enables them to live out before me.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). It was the life in the new brotherhood of the Holy Spirit that made both Jews and Greeks feel that there was some super-human power about Christ’s disciples; they gave living proof of the truth of what they said, that God’s love had come down and taken possession of them. It has often been said that, unless the missionary lives out the Christ life on an entirely different level from that on which other men live, he misses the deepest secret of power and success in his work. When Christ sent His disciples forth, it was with the command, “Tarry...until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 14:49); “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me...unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Many missionaries have felt that it is not learning, zeal, or the willingness for self-sacrifice in Christ’s service, but the secret experience of the life “hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3), that enables them to meet and overcome every difficulty. Everything depends on the life with God in Christ being right. It was so with Christ, with the disciples, and with Paul. The simplicity and intensity of our lives in Christ Jesus, and of the life of Christ Jesus in us, sustains us in the daily drudgery of work, makes us conquer self and everything that could hinder the Christ life, and gives victory over the powers of evil and over the hearts from which the evil spirits have to be cast out. The life is everything. It was so in Christ Jesus. It must be so in His servants, too. It can be so, because Christ Himself will live in us. When He said, “Lo, I am with you alway[s]” (Matthew 28:20), He meant nothing less than this: “Every day and all day long, I am with you, the secret of your life, your joy, and your strength.” Oh, to learn what hidden treasures are contained in the blessed words we love to repeat: “Lo, I am with you all the days!”

Six Money Saving Tips for Summer Here are some ideas you can use to save money during these warm months: 1. Turn off the air conditioning. This doesn’t mean

you have to suffer through sweltering heat, but you should be aware of the weather so that you can maximize efficiency and save money by using the AC only when needed. For example, if it is going to be a cool night, turn off the air before heading to bed and open a few windows.

2. Cook outside. Using the stove or baking in the oven can create a lot of excess heat that has nowhere to go except in your house. Consider taking meal plans to the barbecue grill outside so that you can keep your house cool inside. A bonus: cooking out turns a plain dinner into a fun picnic.

3. Let your laundry dry outside. If you have the ability to hang up laundry outside, let the sun and warm summer breeze do the drying for you. You’ll be amazed at how fresh your clothes smell once they’ve baked in the sun for awhile. Even if you can’t hang up clothes outside, try using your dryer on a lower heat setting or only partially drying your shirts and letting them air dry the rest of the way.

4. Take advantage of extended evenings. Instead of retiring to the couch to stream a show, use the extended daylight hours to enjoy the great outdoors. You’ll save a bit of money on electricity by not running the electronics and indoor light, and get some exercise too.

5. Replace your air conditioner filters. This can be easy to overlook, but a dirty filter can increase your cooling costs. Dirty filters restrict the airflow and the efficiency of the air conditioner, which translates into more run time and higher cooling costs. Filters are cheap, so replace them regularly.

6. Plan ahead for future home and garden projects. As summer begins to wind down, it is a perfect time to be on the lookout for season-ending sales. Landscape plants, tools, and other outdoor project materials tend to go on sale as people begin to look toward autumn and spending less time outside.
