JK’s first professional Football club launchedLone Star Kashmir FC to compete in I-League, lock horns with top National clubs

Jammu, Dec 31: A Kashmir-based business house – Lone Star Group – under the patron-age of Jammu and Kashmir Football Associa-tion (JKFA), today launched the state’s first-ever professional football club, which will compete with top clubs of the country in the I-League and other tournaments.

The launching of the club titled ‘Lone Star Kashmir Football Club’ coincided with the cel-ebrations of the Golden Jubilee year of JKFA and comes in the backdrop of election of Asso-

ciation’s president, Zameer Ahmad Thakur as the treasurer of All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Addressing a press conference here today, patron of the club, I�ikhar Lone, said that the ulti-mate aim of forming this club was to promote and improve the standard of football in the state, ‘which has remained static since past many years’.

“In 80s I went to Middle East for business commitments and after several years when I came back, I found same standard of foot-ball as it was when I used to play football”, he said and added that despite many local boys

playing for national and international clubs, the prospects of the football in the state are still not that good.

He said the Lone Star Kashmir FC would provide a platform to the bud-ding footballers to explore the national and international football. "We have identified players from all formats and tournaments of the game, which will represent the state at I-League and will be among eight top clubs of the country,” I�ikhar said and added that in the squad of 24 players, three would

be international players, five national and rest will be locals, to be selected by the team of senior professional players.

JKFA President, Zameer Ahmad Thakur, appreciated the bold decision of Iftikhar Lone for installing first professional football club in the state. He said the past almost three decades of conflict has badly affected the sport in Jammu and Kashmir, ‘but such endeav-ours will definitely restore the lost glory of football game , which is loved by the people across the state’.

Briefing about the future activities, secretary

of the club, Majid Yousuf Dar said that besides professional team of the club, it has also raised under-15 and under 19 teams, as per the guide-lines of AIFF.

“The LoneStar Kashmir FC U/19 is all set to take on Bangaluru FC in I League U/19 on 1st Feb-ruary 2015 at Ambedkar Stadium New Delhi. The 2nd Div I League is commencing from 2nd week of March in which the club will compete with top clubs like Muhammedan Sporting Kolkata, Hin-dustan FC Delhi, Aizwal FC Mizoram, Chanmari FC Meghalaya, United SC Kolkata, Kenkre FC Mumbai and PIFA Sports Mumbai”, Majid said.

Police wards’ cricket tourney beginsJammu, Dec 31: Range Police Jammu in collaboration with Christian Sports Organization today inaugurated an under-14 cricket tournament for wards of police martyrs and serving police personnel, here.

Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu, who inaugurated the tournament, said that this tournament has been organized to keep the wards of Police Martyrs and Police Officers mentally and physically fit and channelize their energies in the right direction. As per a statement, in today’s matches, JKP Jr. XI earned 3 points and Charistian Sports Jr.-XI got 1 point. The next test series shall be played on 2nd of January-2015, it said.

National School Games

DG DYSS flags-o� JK contingentSrinagar, Dec 31: The Director General, Department Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Navin Agarwal, today flagged-off the State contingent for the upcoming National School Games.

The contingent, comprising 137 members in the disci-plines of Hand Ball, Hockey, Wrestling, Basket Ball, Sqay, Kick Boxing, will represent the state in the 60th National school games scheduled to be held in Delhi from January 2 to 8, a DYSS statement said.

“The Director General gave his best wishes to the state players and asked them to make the state proud by winning medals in the event”, it added.

State Football Championship

Seven matches played on WednesdaySrinagar, Dec 31: In the ongoing State Football Championship, seven matches were played at two separate venues in Jammu on Wednesday.

In the first match, DFA Baramulla defeated Jammu Sports 2-0 while as in the second match, Param Sports, Jammu defeated Jammu United FC 2-0. In the third match, Shaheen Sports Jammu defeated DFA Rajouri-XI by 9 goals to nil while as in the fourth match DFA Anant-nag defeated J&K SRTC 2-0.

In the fifth match, Ganderbal defeated DFA Ramban 1-0 while as in the sixth match of the day, DFA Srinagar defeated Young Star Jammu 5-0.

The last match of the day was played between Lone Star FC, Srinagar and DFA Kupwara in which the former emerged winners by a huge margin of 10-0. GKNN
