GWM has recently released its monthly production and sales results. In May, GWM sold 52,000 units and its SUV sector maintained strong momentum with a sales volume of 36,000 units, ranking 1st in the SUV segment. Great Wall H6 continued to sell well with a sales volume of 24,000 units, retaining the sales title of single SUV models.

According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufactur-ers (CAAM), 1.59 million passenger vehicles were sold in the country, down 1.16 percent month on month and up 13.85 percent year on year. The SUV market continued to grow with a sales volume of 319,200 units, up 2.68 percent month on month and up 40.05 percent year on year. Compared to the passenger car segment's year-on-year micro growth of 7.26 percent and month-on-month nega-tive growth of 2.2 percent, the SUV is still considered as the most promising model in the Chinese auto market.

Interpretation on Expansion History of Compact Urban SUVs

Editor’s note: The rising of the compact urban SUV market can be described, in short as “suddenness”. However, this “suddenness” is not an exact or accurate description; because the rising of the compact urban SUV can still be perceivably traced.

SUVs, which integrate various advantages, such as the large space and high practicability, are sustain-ably popular in the global market and such popularity will last in future. However, with the rising of the SUVs, successive problems such as congested traffic and environmental contamination follow. The disad-vantages of traditional SUVs have gradually emerged and the related problems including large body sizes and high fuel consumption cannot be ignored. There-fore, the demand for miniaturized SUVs has been gradually increasing.

The compact urban SUVs achieved a great-leap-forward growth in 2013. The sales volume of the compact urban SUVs will remain at a high speed growth rate in the coming two years. And the compact SUVs will enter the global expansion period in 2015.

When it comes to the compact urban SUVs, is the first thing that emerged in your mind the Ecosport of “Youth Has Every-thing” or the Encore of “So What?” Are these two cars the pioneers that launched the market segment of compact SUV? Actu-ally, the earliest compact SUV should be traced to the Suzuki Jimny launched in April, 1970, which is really convictive as the earliest compact SUV, though without a very good sales volume.

However, the rising of compact urban SUVs was not created by the Jimny. Instead, the launch of the Ford Ecosport in the South American market 33 years later since the Jimmy enabled people to understand the compact urban SUV in the true sense. Afterwards, the continuous growth of compact urban SUVs laid an unshakeable marketplace and even brought out a storm of “world of compact SUVs”.

2003~2009 can be called as the “emergence” period of com-pact SUVs. During this period, the well-known Jimny, Lada Niva4*4, Chevrolet Niva, and Daihatsu Terios were still popular and the subsequent Ford Ecosport started to debut in the field of compact SUVs, which resembled the compact urban SUV while retaining the straightforward exterior of an off-road vehicle.

In 2003, the first generation Ecosport was launched in Latin America and was sold in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, and

Mexico. As a model specially developed by Ford for the South American market, the Ecosport has gained universal appraisal ever since its launch. By the time of 2011, the total sales volume of Ecosport has hit 700,000 vehicles.

Observed from the sales region during this period, the Ford Ecosport was only aimed at the South American and Mexi-can markets. Until 2012, such sales layout had not ever been changed, and the Ecosport just looked like a South American model.

During 2010~2012, the compact urban SUV market seem-ingly entered into a “hibernation period”. Except the models previously on sale, the newly launched compact urban SUVs were really few. Chevrolet Trax was only debuted in North America at the end of 2012 and the remaining focus was con-centrated on Nissan Juke.

Regarded as the “monster”, the Juke changed people’ s view on traditional compact SUVs ever since its launch. The utili-zation of hatchback lines suggested that this was not only a compact SUV, but also a compact urban SUV. With the meaning of “roadside bar and automatic jukebox”, the name Juke directly expressed its positioning. The launch of Juke

further drove the compact urban SUVs into the people’ s daily lives on the basis of Ford Ecosport.

Nissan Juke was firstly launched in Japan in June, 2010. And it was launched in Europe, North America, Middle East, Africa, and Asia gradually in same year. With its final launch in Oceania, South America, and China in 2012, Nissan Juke achieved its dream of worldwide sales.

Since its launch, the Juke has conquered batches of consum-ers with its unique appearance. Based on the data calculated by IHS, Juke achieved a global sales volume of 445,000 until 2012.

GWM Reelected the Champion of China United Top 100 Listed Companies

On May 20, Great Wall Motors Company Limited signed the Coopera-tion Agreement between Great Wall Motors Company Limited and Tula Oblast Government on the Building of Automobile Investment Project with Russian Tula Oblast Government and Tula Oblast Public-Private Partnership Development Group. As per this agreement, Great Wall

Motors Company Limited will invest approximate RMB 3.2 billion to build a solely-owned finished vehicle plant in Uzlovaya Industrial Zone, Tula Oblast, Russia.

It is reported that this finished vehicle plant will be built in two phases, with the total occupation area at 2,160,000m2. The esti-mated investment for the 1st phase hits Ruble 12 billion (approximate RMB 2.1 billion). After the thorough completion of the manufacturing base, the total investment is estimated to hit approximate Ruble 18 billion (approximate RMB 3.2 billion). The planned production capacity will hit 150,000 units per year after this project is put into production. This is the first finished vehicle plant cover-ing four manufacturing processes among China’ s auto manufacturers in Russia as well as the first whole-process finished

vehicle plant invested by Great Wall Motors Company Limited overseas.

The responsible person from Great Wall Motors Company Limited said that the over-all strategic cooperation partnership between China and Russia nowadays provides a good cooperative environment for Great Wall Motors Company Limited and the Tula Oblast Government. Great Wall Motors Company Limited will strictly abide by the Russian laws and industry regulations and complete this project well to serve the Rus-sian customers and local residents.

The industry experts believe that, confronted with increasingly fierce competition in domestic market, the investment of overseas plant becomes a new approach for proprietary brands to strive for break-throughs and independent innovations. The building of the Great Wall Motors Company Limited plant in Russia for the realization of local manufacturing can not only reduce the cost and relieve the competitive pressure, but also establish a good brand image in the world and form an international competive-ness of truly sustainable growth.

The listed company evaluation team con-sisting of experts from China United Inter-national Holdings Co.,Ltd, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), the Development Research Center of the State Council , and Almanac of China’ s Economy has recently released the list of "2014 China United Top 100 Listed Compa-nies". GWM topped the list again with a comprehensive score of 93.76 points. Shuan-ghui, Yili, Gree, Wenergy, Hikvision, CITS, COOEC, China Construction Bank and JMC were ranked 2nd to 10th respectively.

According to the evaluation results, apart from the enterprises coming out on top such as GWM, the top 100 enterprises performed strongly with an average score of 79.68 points, 26.20 points higher and 48.99 per-cent above the average level (53.48 points) of all listed companies. The list shows three features: manufacturers were ranked with

overwhelming advantage; green companies gradually became the main forces; and private enterprises increased year by year.

According to sources, the list of China United Top 100 Listed Companies has been released for 13 consecutive years and enjoys growing influence in the securities market. The system of business evaluation of listed companies taken by the evaluation team fully used the Implemen-tation Rules for Enterprise Performance Evaluation issued by state ministries and commissions such as the Ministry of Finance and the former State Economic and Trade Commis-sion, and the Interim Measures for Administra-tion of Performance Evaluation of Central Enter-prises issued by SASAC. The evaluation results are completely based on the publicly disclosed information of listed companies.

On April 29, Auto China 2014 was wrapped up with the presentation ceremony of Auto China 2014 Awards supported by the Organizing Committee of Auto China 2014, and organized by media outlets such as Sohu. GWM garnered the Auto China Best Independent Manufacturer Award with the strongest SUV lineup.

GWM ranked among "2014 Forbes Global 2000"

On May 8, forbeschina.com released the "2014 Forbes Global 2000" list. Chinese enterprises claimed the top three places and five places of the top 10. Automakers includ-ing SAIC, Dongfeng and GWM made the list; GWM was ranked 840th, 117 places up from last year.

According to the report, Industrial and Com-mercial Bank of China topped the list for the second consecutive year, followed by China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of

China. 25 Chinese enterprises (including mainland and Hong Kong enterprises) were added to increase the total number of Chi-nese enterprises to 207 in excess of those from other countries.

In the auto industry, six Chinese automak-ers including SAIC, Dongfeng, GWM, BYD, Changan and GAGC appeared on the list. Among them, SAIC, Dongfeng and GWM were among the top 1000. Changan and GAGC made their debut. Japan's Toyota

was ranked 12th, ahead of other automak-ers.

The "Forbes Global 2000" list was reportedly released for the first time in 2004 based on four indicators (sales, profit, assets and market value), weighted equally. The enter-prises listed this year achieved total operat-ing revenues of 38 trillion US dollars, a total profit of 3 trillion US dollars, total assets of 161 trillion US dollars and a total market value of 44 trillion US dollars.

The Baku International Motor Show took place from May 14 to 17, 2014, attract-

ing more than 15,000 participants of 105 automakers and distributors from

across the world. Exhibits included passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles,

motorcycles, automotive parts, etc.

GWM's Azerbaijani distributor showed up with 9 models covering three series:

passenger car, SUV and pickup. To make customers personally experience

vehicle performance, the distributor presented test rides and parts discounts

outside the venue.

The director of GWM's Azerbaijani distributor, Elshad Huseynov, said, "GWM

In May 2014, the annual Madagascar Rally successfully came to an

end. Great Wall dealer CT MOTORS sent Wingle 5 to participate in the

automobile brands participated in the competition.

Comprehensive Analysis on Use and Maintenance Skills of SUV Models (Tips for Run-in Period)

The unbridled freedom on both urban roads and mountainous curves; the perfect combi-nation of off-road maneuverability and road driving comfort; the combination of a sedan and an off-road vehicle; the on-demand con-version between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; the considerations to both fuel economy and driv-ing pleasure … the attractive charms of the SUVs are more than the above. In recent

years, following the changes of people’ s requirements, more and more people are getting out of the city life, and taking a fancy to self-driving travel. As a result the func-tional SUVs that give considerations to both urban and off-road driving conditions have become popular in a flourishing way.

However, even with so many advantages, SUV models are still composed of various

kinds of mechanical parts, electric devices, and fasteners and still require that you to care for them with all your heart. In addition, SUV models differ from conventional vehicle models in terms of the use and maintenance. Next, our editor will describe the detailed knowledge of SUVs and provide you with some tips about the use and maintenance of SUV models.

For common MT SUVs, during the run-in period, make sure to start up the vehicle in low gear, avoid hastily pressing the accelera-tor pedal, and after startup timely shift to higher gears. It’ s prohibited to drive in 1st gear or high speed gear for a long period. Never run the engine speed or vehicle speed to the limit in any gear and preferably con-trol the engine speed within 3000rpm.

Control the vehicle speed within 120km/h (70~90km/h recommended). It is preferable to run the engine at medium speed and to avoid continuously running the engine at high speed or low speed. Control the vehicle speed within the specified range, as the high vehicle speed will increase the load on the engine and drive parts. The general principle is to drive the vehicle smoothly.

Running the engine at high speed for a long period under non-optimum conditions will easily lead to carbon buildup in the engine, which may resulting in a reduction of power performance , even cause the blockage to the fuel line, and damage to the engine under serious condition. The buildup of carbon is most serious for a new vehicle during the run-in period as drivers are generally not willing to heavily press the accelerator pedal. Therefore, it’ s necessary to run the engine at high speed appropriately. Within the first 1000~1500km run-in period, the engine speed and vehicle speed can be increased gradually to the top speed; running at top speed should not exceed 5minutes each time.

Within the run-in period, drive on good roads as much as possible, fulfill gearshifts timely depending on different road condi-tions, sufficiently estimate the engine power, and shift to lower gear in advance, to avoid improper driving in high speed gears to prevent excessive engine load. In addition, during the initial stage (appropriate 500~800km) of the run-in period, drive the vehicle on level roads and never fully load the vehicle (the loading rate shall be less than 75%). Though with outstanding off-road performances, in consideration of the life time of the vehicle, do not drive a new vehicle under off-road conditions or cross over a large pit during the run-in period, if at all possible. Chinese Culture China is the hometown of tea and is also the birthplace of tea culture. With a discovery and utilization

history of 4000~5000 years, Chinese tea perpetuates a boom and has spread around the world. As the

national drink of the Chinese nation, tea was discovered by Shennong, renowned by Lu Zhougong,

emerged in the Tang Dynasty, prospered in the Song Dynasty, and

popularized in the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. The Chinese tea

culture is one piece of miracle in Chinese culture. With an extensive

territory, the Chinese tea region is classified into three levels, namely level

1 (represented by Southwest China and south of Yangtze River), level 2

(Northwest China and north of Yangtze River), and level 3 (represented

by South China). Meanwhile, the tea has become the most popularized,

the most popular, and the healthiest green drink in the world. The tea

unites heaven, earth, and man and advocates that “the tea-drinking

people around the world are one family”.

The essence of tea culture is actually one manifestation of the essence of Chinese culture and can be

discussed along with the Han Chinese culture. China is well known as the state of ceremonies and the

spiritual essence of tea culture is one kind of cultural phenomenon with distinct Chinese cultural charac-

teristics through the combination between the habits of tea making, appreciation, smelling, drinking, and

tasting and the Chinese cultural essence and courtesy as well as a kind of phenomenon of courtesy. In

ancient times, courtesy was used to determine the affinities, judge suspicion, differentiate similarity and

difference, and understand the right and wrong. Within the long historic development, the courtesy, as the

moral rule and living criterion of Chinese society, played a significant role in the cultivation of Han spiritual

quality. Meanwhile, following the social reform and development, the courtesy is

continuously bestowed with new contents and is merged with some Chinese

living habits and forms to create all kinds of characteristic Chinese cultural

phenomena. The tea culture is China’s most representative traditional

culture. China is not only one of the origin places of the tea. In addition, till

now there are still colorful tea drinking habits and customs in different nation-

alities and regions around the China.

Before the marriage, the girlfriend was cheerful and her chick chat made me feel lovable.

However, after the marriage, I found out sadly that all things went wrong and the

days were getting more routines which made me lack enthusiasm all day long. In

merely four years after marriage, I felt that the days were getting more boring. When

returning home from work each day, the conversations between my wife and I

never departed from the daily necessities except for the complaints about work. Finally, I couldn’t help thinking

what if I re-selected?

After I launched a divorce with my wife, my wife said “Let’s take a final trip.”

We went to Yunnan. We bought the ship tickets and lingered on Erhai Lake. We appreciated the performance

of the folk dances on the ship while tasting the special local three-course tea.

My wife had visited Yunnan and she told me that the three-course tea is not only an engagement convention of

the Bai people, but also a good summary and reflection of the marriage.

I drank the first course of tea and it was sweet. My wife said “The first course is sweet tea. Though we have

reached the situation of divorce, after all we once embraced the sweetness of love. However, even the sweetest

tea will become thin as the time goes by, just like our daily life. ”

The second course of tea was a cup of bitter tea that embittered me to barely open my mouth. My wife said

“From sweetness to bitterness, this is our marriage. Life is really long. Where is there lifelong marriage without

the bitterness?”

Though it’s called tea, the third course of tea was merely a cup of water. As I had just drunk a cup of bitter tea, I

tasted a trace of sweetness this time. My wife said “The marriage is like a cup of water in the end. No matter how

romantic it starts, the marriage will finally turn into a cup of water”. ”

After slowly reflecting on the tastes of the three-course tea, I have understood the care and thoughts of my wife.

Life does not have so many poetic illusions. All marriages will turn ordinary all the same in the end.
