This week the children have been exploring the life cycles of butterflies and frogs. On Tuesday we were extremely excited to find that one of our litt le tadpoles (not sure if it was Timmy, Taddy, Tilly or Tommy!) has turned into a REAL LIFE frog! For some children this was a revelation, we have seen in books that we have read and heard about it on our trip last week but didn't quite believes it until we saw it with our own eyes!

We have been reading and story mapping the Very Hungry Caterpillar story and have had a go at writing our own stories.

In maths this week the focus has been on solving problems involving halving. We have looked at cutting things in half and sharing amount between 2 people so that it is fair. Some children have investigated which numbers can be shared and which cant.

We have also been busy gardening, learning the names of new plants and learning to recognise some herbs, rubbing and smelling the leaves as we planted them in our plot.

2 This week it?s been the turn of the Year 1 children to undergo lovely end of year tests! All the children approached the phonics reading test with confidence, determination and smiley faces. We were all very proud of them; they had worked hard all week revising and trying to memorize the different graphemes and the accompanying phonemes and their resilience paid off. Well done Year 1!

In our maths lessons both year groups have been consolidating adding 2 and 3 numbers together using a number line. Some children in Year 2 have used the number line in a more complex way by partit ioning the number they are adding,

We loved science week so much that we?ve kept the science alive in our English lessons by researching information about British birds from the RSPB website and various information books. We will be using our fantastic notes to create our own information texts next week

We have all had a fabulous 1960's day today. The outfits ranged from Mary Quant bobs and mini dresses to late 60's full on flower power!

The children had a great time learning a 1960's inspired dance with Miss Hardy to the Beatles 'Help!'

Mrs Sam took the children through an art experience of psychedelic art. Meanwhile Kylie Cobb Stanier and Miss Mannion worked with the children, experimenting with tie-dye. The children put on a 1960's fashion show, took pictures and presented them in a slide show, presented their art work and performed their 1960's dance to parents. It was a great day!

Home Learning Hero: Olivia - for becoming much more organised with her home-learning.

Sporting Hero: Parker - for great hand/eye co-ordination in our KS2 rounders match.

News from 3 & 4

While welcoming back the warmer weather, Year 5 and 6 have been beavering away and showing off their year's worth of hard work in Maths, reading and writing. There have also been lots of exciting things going on around school, including the Talent Show. Well done to Amber for a beautiful winning performance!

The rehearsals for Tales of the Jungle are going fantastically well and the children's effort and enthusiasm is infectious this week. It 's all starting to come together and the children are doing very well at learning their lines and the lyrics to the songs. Any extra help at this at home would be fantastic; it 'll really help the children to pair up with a sibling or adult at home to read through the scenes so that the children are aware of their cues!

Well done to the children who took part in the cricket at Chipping Norton School on Wednesday. They worked well as a team and showed great sportsmanship to the other teams. A particular well done to Adam and Isabella who were awarded Sporting Champion certificates. While half of the class were cricketing, the others were playing rounders with Year 3 and 4 during PE. It was lovely to receive feedback that the older children communicated the rules and helped the younger children to develop their skills.

This week's Good Manners' Champion is Theo in Year 1. Theo is a really positive member of the class, having just the right attitude towards his learning and setting a very good example for others to follow. He is polite to everyone, with a cheerful enthusiasm, and he has very good old fashioned manners, always remembering please, thank you and excuse me. Theo is kind and considerate to other children and a very good listener. The children told us: Theo always thinks of hard answers in class; he is always fair in the playground; Theo is not a rough person, he?s gentle and kind; Theo always asks if he can play to join in a game and make it more fun if not many people are playing; Theo is a kind brother - he doesn't always moan about how annoying I am (!); Theo never gives up, he keeps going and trying even when things get difficult; he was an amazing buddy for me last year and he still is. Well done Theo - you do have lovely manners and you should be very proud.

The School Council, with the help of Miss Read, organised a really enjoyable Talent Show on Thursday evening. Everyone had fun and we all enjoyed an afternoon of dancing, singing, yoyos, poetry, gymnastics magic and more! My what talent we have!

Saturday's Summer fete was a triumph, all that could ever have been hoped for and more, a vision that really was brought to reality through the energy and drive of Melissa and Mim. I don?t think anyone could quite believe the number of people that turned up, many of whom had come from miles away and had nothing at all to do with the school and all of whom so obviously enjoyed themselves, both young and old.  Mim and Melissa knew what they wanted to create, a good old-fashioned village fete, and that?s exactly what they did.  People came in their hundreds, and it was clear that they loved what they found when they got here.  I had numerous glowing comments from current parents, ex parents, ex pupils, children, passers by etc etc and everyone just loved their afternoon.

The atmosphere was buzzing, the smiles on people?s faces were a pleasure to see, and it was an afternoon that will be talked about for weeks to come. It was lovely to see the whole community coming together behind the event, with so many people working incredibly hard to make it the success that it was.  So many people, parents, staff, governors and friends, spent hours organising, planning, preparing, touting for prizes, baking, shopping, creating etc and without that commitment from everyone, it could never have happened. The classroom reps were fantastic, so expertly led by Katie, and gave a great deal of their time, both beforehand and on the day itself.

A special mention also goes to Angela, who has been such a key part of the Supporters Club and the Summer Fete for the last very many years and who also played a big part in making Saturday the success it was, sharing her tips, emailing and communicating, running the tombola and of course counting the money! One of my highlights was seeing Angela laughing as she staggered from her office at about 5pm, carrying a vast swag bag of cash, struggling to even lift it. She called in some muscle to help her, but even her car tyres groaned at the weight of the bag!

So thank you, to every one of you, and particularly of course to Melissa and Mim. I think we should all be proud of what can be achieved when everyone pulls together. And I?m pretty sure we all enjoyed ourselves too!!
