Education
"De La Salle is where great futures begin for all of our young women and men." – FR. PAUL NOVAK, DE LA SALLE PRESIDENT
ST. JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLEOur school was named in his honor. Born in Rheims, France, in 1651, St. John Baptist de La Salle was declared a saint in 1900. He is the founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (also known as Christian Brothers) and was a pioneer in education who aimed to transform the lives of young people. The Lasallian mission is thriving in educational and spiritual ministries throughout the world.
DIVERSE STUDENT BODYThe Christian Brothers have guided young women and men at De La Salle in both academic and spiritual development. Ever since the school’s founding in 1889, De La Salle Institute has been and continues to be a community, inclusive of various religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, working together to achieve a shared mission steeped in Lasallian tradition.
WE ARE A CO-EDUCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.In our 130+ years of educating young people to be strong in mind, body, and spirit, we welcomed young women as Meteors at De La Salle in 2002, and made the complete transition to a co-educational high school in 2017

As a Lasallian, Catholic high school, De La Salle offers students and families every opportunity you would expect of a larger high school but on an intimate scale, where every student is valued and accepted.
1889: The year Brother Adjutor of Mary founded De La Salle Institute
TECHNOLOGY• DeLaSallewasthefirstschoolin
Chicago to adopt a one-to-one technology program.
• We intentionally chose hybrid personal computer/tablet to provide the versatility of hands-on tablet learning with the computing power of a PC.
• Apps-based learning provides students convenience by helping them achieve more in less time through interactive and personalized learning.
• Students keep their tablet after graduation.
• We have an agile ecosystem for learning that includes computers loaded with an abundance of learning software and e-books.
• Schoology is a digital learning environment that managesallaspectsofourinstructionalefforts.
• Our Learning Management System allows teachers to communicate directly with students and parents along with administering assignments, tests, homework, and more.
• Doodle accounts for each teacher give students and teachersgreaterflexibilitytoscheduleofficehours.
• Because of our reimagined education that incorporates technology, De La Salle was already primed for remote learningandcontinuestobealeaderinthefield.
ACCREDITATION De La Salle is accredited by Cognia, a globalleaderinadvancingexcellencein education. De La Salle has been accredited since the onset of Illinois accreditation in 1923.
COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUMDeLaSalleoffersthreeprogramsofstudyincludingHonors,College Prep, and LaSalle College Prep. Our rigorous college preparatory curriculum prepares young women and men for the demands of post-secondary education and beyond. Our teachers inspire our students to learn beyond the classroom, to discover new ideas, and challenge them to become active in community service and social justice.
STEM ELEVATEDAs a Catholic and Lasallian school, we focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics while also elevating our curriculum to include Religion and Arts to offerarobustSTREAMlearningenvironment.
Project Lead the Way - Through Project Lead the Way, our students are more than prepared to pursue STREAM-related careers.
• Grants from leading companies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (e.g., Google, NASA, ComEd) support our robotics and engineering programs, robotics competitions and also help us to continueexpandingourSTREAMlearningopportunitieswhilegainingnotoriety in and around Chicago.
Engineering and Robotics Classes rank among student favorites and can lead to earning college credit.
Robotics Club, Girls Who Code, and 3-D Printing Club are just a handful ofextracurricularsthatgivestudentstheopportunitytoputengineering, scientific, andtechnologicalconceptsintopractice.
World Languages, Religion, and the Arts are at the heart of the human experience.Learningtocommunicateinanotherlanguageandexploreartisticexpressionarecriticaltoourstudents'abilitytosucceedinaglobalsociety.StudentsgainproficiencyinFrenchorSpanishanddeveloptheircreative talents at De La Salle.
Honors Students under the direction of a faculty advisor, must complete a capstone project and defend their thesis before a panel of faculty and administration in order to graduate with honors.
THE UNIQUE GIFT of a Lasallian education is learning how to think. Our young women and men explore subjects including literature, mathematics, science, and the arts in route to becoming lifelong learners who continually question and grow in their appreciation of the world and their place in it. At De La Salle, students actively participate in their learning environment, taking responsibility for their own intellectual development while being guided by gifted teachers who support them on their academic journey. Because De La Salle is a college preparatory school, classes prepare students for the rigors of a college curriculum, offering numerous honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes, along with the option to dual enroll in upper-level classes at De La Salle for college credit.
