This educational activity is designed for gastroenterologists, hospitalists, internists, physician assistants, nurses, surgeons, and other clinicians with an interest in treating patients with IBD inclusive of children, teens, and young adults.
• Review at least three diagnostic tools that can increase the optimization of diagnosing IBD
• Employ evidence-based criteria when selecting patients for early use of biologic therapies
• Identify at least two differences between monotherapy and concomitant therapy during the post-SONIC era
• Recall at least one way to maximize the efficacy and reduce the risk of commonly used immunomodulators and biologics
• Identify at least two strategies to manage naïve patients and patients that have not responded to therapy
• Discuss whether steroid therapy should be abandoned in children, teens, and young adults
• Restate the impact of enteral nutrition on therapy
• Summarize best practices regarding cancer prevention and detection strategies
• Identify at least two strategies to maintain skeletal health in children, teen, and young adult patients
• Devise at least one strategy to psychologically manage juvenile IBD patients
• Discuss the importance of post-op maintenance
• Restate at least one benefit of using mucosal healing as a standard therapeutic endpoint
