Although we may know that Gratitude and Perseverance, as mentioned in our first two editions of “Bravehearts@home” are key to everyday life and even more so as “coping mechanisms” in times like these, we may still find ourselves becoming despondent… This is very normal we are told, but how do we “keep going” I asked myself a few days ago? - It then dawned on me, that I had begun focusing inwardly, a trap we all fall into from time to time. Instead, we need to be like Charlie Brown and reach out to others as per the insert on the right. - It reminded me too of the first newsletter of the year in which we had the picture on the left depicting “spontaneous kindness at Clifton amongst friends”… Not to mention “Random Acts of Kindness Day” on Wednesday 19 th February. – This is what we need to do as Clifton Bravehearts when we are feeling low, “reach out to others in acts of kindness” i.e. send a friend a text and find out how they are doing/coping with online learning, drop off some homemade cookies for your neighbour who is in lockdown alone, thank a teacher for the time they took to comment on your work or help you, make Mum & Dad a cup of tea in the morning. The list is endless! – The most amazing thing happens when we reach out to others… somehow, we ourselves are enriched as it draws us out of our worlds and into theirs, and we uplift each other. – There is as much joy in giving as in receiving! I found it so encouraging too that as I contemplated what to write this week, the emails received from staff with their contributions for our letter, and in this case Mrs Nicolene Badenhorst, re-enforced this idea. The Grade 5s, a grade on which we are focussing this week, have already had this theme in Drama. – “Random Acts of Kindness!” So, let’s ALL be encouraged to go out and be kind. May we challenge you to do at least one random act of kindness every day! You will not only enrich the lives of those around you, but will find your own spirits lifted, which will in-turn help you to stay positive, grateful and persevere! Clifton we’ve got this! Dear Parents / Guardians,

We hope you all enjoyed “Half Term” and that you took time to celebrate your child / children’s growth over this “Lockdown Period” in whatever form that was: be it a cake for tea, a walk on the farm, a special meal or simply watching a movie together as a family. - Each family is unique and it is good to have these celebrations in ways that work for you. – It is these “traditions” that your children will remember and cherish for many years to come.

“spontaneous kindness at Clifton amongst friends”…

Not to mention “Random Acts of Kindness Day” on Wednesday 19th February.
