RECOFTC’s Grassroots Capacity Building for REDD+

Program

Page 2: Grassroots Program

To be able to participate with their full potential in the planning and implementation of REDD+ projects, grassroots stakeholders must have full, clear, and culturally appropriate information about REDD+ processes. Through this project, RECOFTC identifies their knowledge gaps and thoroughly and effectively shares vital information. In each of the four countries, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Nepal, and Vietnam, we work together with partner organizations to get access to local communities.

During one of the district level refresher workshops in Banke District, community level facilitators exchange their experiences and discuss how challenges can be overcome.

Page 5: Grassroots Program

In Dang District there is a high demand of agricultural land and therefore forest encroachment is well visible.

Page 6: Grassroots Program

In Nepal, one of the four project countries, we work in 16 different districts, ten of them located in the low-land Terai region, where often forest degradation and forest encroachment occur. Through a cascade approach national and subnational trainings build the capacity of district level trainers who then lead the local level awareness raising events. The program in Nepal is implemented in partnership with our national partner organization FECOFUN.

Already during the introduction round in pairs of the awareness raising event of the Dumkibas Village Development Committee, Nawalparasi District, Nepal, there was a

In view of illiteracy in some communities, we test innovative awareness building approaches. One of them is delivering messages with street plays. In Nawalparasi District two different groups prepared street plays for local communities, which were well received.
