* SCHERING BRIDGE manufactured byHartmann and Braun in Germanymeasures dielectric loss factor andcapacitance of grounded or ungroundedtest objects at high and low voltageand dielectric constant of solid andliquid insulating materials. The testobject is compared with a loss-freestandard capacitor by means of an a-cbridge. Measuring range for capacitanceis 3 pf to I Ousf and for loss factor2 X 010 to 1.1 1 1. Loss-free com-pressed-gas reference capacitors aresupplied. (Epic Inc., Dept. Sci738, 150Nassau St., New York 35, N.Y.)

* AUTOMATIC SAMPLE CHANGER is de-signed to handle up to 200 samples forradioactivity measurements. Models areavailable for gas-flow or scintillationcounting or for both. A feature of theinstrument in an automatic revertingcircuit that avoids excessive time forcounting low activities. Samples of nor-mal activity are timed for full pre-set count; low-count samples are timedfor a small fraction of the preset countand this reversion is recorded and iden-tified on the output tape. (TechnicalAssociates, Dept. Sci741, 140 W. Prov-idencia Ave., Burbank, Calif.)

* REFERENCE RADIOGRAPHS for inspec-tion of aluminum and magnesium cast-ings include 13 covering discontinui-ties in aluminum alloy castings and12 for magnesium alloy castings. Eachradiograph illustrates eight grades ofseverity for a particular discontinuity.Illustrated are gas holes, segregation, microshrinkage (both sponge and feath-er), and foreign matter. Each stand-ard is held in an 81/2 by 11 in. card-board frame. (American Society forTesting Materials, Dept. Sci747, 1916Race St., Philadelphia 3, Pa.)

* TEMPERATURE INDICATING LABELS pro-vide a change from pastel to black togive an irreversible record of exposureto heat. The labels are available in50°F steps. From 1000 to 500°F theyare offered in plastic casing and from500° to IlOOOF on stainless-steel foil. Both types are self-adhesive and aresaid to adhere until intentionally re-moved. (Pyrodyne, Inc., Dept. Sci751,c/o William Wahl Corp., 11973 SanVincente Blvd., Los Angeles 49, Calif.)

* RELAY TESTER measures pull-in anddrop-out voltage and current simulta-neously. Coil voltage is continuouslyvariable. Automatic driving circuitryprovides three repetition rates. Contactresistance and coil resistance are meas-ured by a built-in ohmmeter. Connec-tions are provided for oscilloscope dis-display. (Anaheim Electronics Divisionof Electronic Engineering Co., Dept.Sci755, 1601 Chestnut Ave., Santa Ana,Calif.)

* INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETER usesa prism-grating monochromator and aratio recording system in a two-fre-quency, dual-beam system with beamchopping ahead of the sample. Cellspace is over 10 in. long. Manufac-turer's specifications include the follow-ing: wave-member accuracy ±0.5 cm-';wave-member reproducibility +0.1 cm-';photometric accuracy +0.1 percent; res-olution 0.3 cm-' or better. Range is4000 to 450 cm-' by use of KBr prismand windows. Photometric scales of 0to 1, 0.5 to 1.5 absorbance, and 0 to100 percent transmittance are provided,as well as a compound scale and ex-panded scales. Spectra from 18 in. to150 ft in full-span length are recordedwithout gaps at order-change points.(Applied Physics Corp., Dept. Sci765.2724 S. Pack Rd., Monrovia, Calif.)

* CAPACITANCE INDICATOR uses a crys-tal-controlled oscillator to furnish 1.6Mcy/sec excitation to two matched, tuned circuits. One, the measuring cir-cuit, contains the capacitance beingmeasured; the other is a reference cir-cuit. Ranges are 0 to 200 pf on narrow-span setting and 0 to 2800 pf on widespan. Corresponding sensitivities are0.01 and 0.19 pf, respectively. Cali-brated accuracy is said to be ±2.0 per-cent. A + 10-volt variation of inputvoltage produces a +50°F +10 percentzero shift. The instrument is portable, measuring 1 1 by 12 by 6 in. andweighing 19 lb. (Foxboro Co., Dept.Sci764, Foxboro, Mass.)

* ROBOT CHEMIST is a modularized sys-tem for automatic chemical analysis. The operator is required only to loadsamples in a storage rack that holdsup to 100 samples. An index headperforms a sequence of operations oftypes depending on special-purpose sub-assemblies and determined by program-mer settings. Operations include pi-petting aliquots of sample, adding meas-ured amount of reagent, mixing, dis-carding sample, rinsing and drainingcontainer, rinsing and draining pipette.Samples are maintained at constanttemperature through operations. Anautomatic centrifuge loads, spins andunloads 12 samples in each cycle. Oper-ating sequence is varied by resettingswitches. Examples of analyses per-formed include amino acid chromatog-raphy, blood sugar by glucose oxidasemethod, serum lactic acid by dehydro-genese method. The system is compat-ible with standard laboratory colorim-eters, spectrophotometers, radiationcounters, pH meters, and so forth, (Re-search Specialties Co., Dept. Sci767,200 S. Garrars Blvd., Richmond,Calif.)
