The purpose of this presentation is to provide a basic overview of how to register, find, and apply for grants using the www.grants.gov portal.

Register Your OrganizationStep 1: Obtain a DUNS number.
• All applicants must have a Data Universal Number System number at the time of application in order to be considered for a grant.
• Organizations are identified by their DUNS number.
• The federal government has adopted the use of a DUNS number to track how federal money is allocated.
• Visit the Dun & Bradstreet website at http://fedgov.dnb.com/webform or call the D & B Government Customer Response Center at 866-705-5711.
• The process is free and quick.

Register Your OrganizationStep 2: Register with the CCR.
• All applicants must register with the Central Contractor Registration before the time of application in order to be considered for a grant.
• The CCR is managed by the General Services Administration.
• This system collects, validates, stores and disseminates data in support of federal grant awards.
• Must have a assigned DUNS number.
• Go to the Central Contractor Registration at www.ccr.gov or to the System for Award Management at www.sam.gov to register. Or you can call: 866-606-8220.

Apply for a Grant – Standard Steps• Complete the SF-424 form, first. It will populate many of the data fields in
some of the Mandatory and Optional Documents.
• Open and complete all of the documents listed in the Mandatory Documents box. Be aware of additional forms or other documents that need to be attached, such as a Project Narrative.
• Optional Documents can be used to provide support to your application.
• Read and re-read the requirements of the grant.
• Carefully follow the onscreen instructions for submission.
• If you’re having problems completing the process, contact Grants.Gov at 800-518-4726 or the NLC Grants Hotline at 866-973-27560.
