The modern day background of skiing is fundamentally believed to have initiated in 1850 in Norway with the principal tourneys taking place immediately thereafter. Ski resorts are discovered all over the United States (and world) with importance on the western United States. Colorado and Utah, in particular, are considered to have some of the top ski resorts in the world. Vail, Colorado, is considered to be one of the most advantageous ski inns internationally. Salt Lake City was home to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and is predominately thought to be a front runner to repeat as an Olympic coordinator city because of to the successes of the 2002 Games, which had a lot to do with the snow and the ski functions wonderful weather. Deer Valley, Park City, Alta and Snowbird are four of the Salt Lake City/Wasatch Mountain’s best known and most popular ski resorts. Deer Valley was the location for the freestyle moguls and aerials and the alpine men’s and women’s slalom events at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Alta is one of the most seasoned ski areas in the United States and is one of the few ski regions left in the US that is open entirely to skiers, not to snowboarders. Alta is best known for the quality of its “powder” snow and is known for long, straight, fall line ski runs. Park City, Utah provides several of the US Ski Team’s training courses incorporating slalom and giant slalom runs. At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Park City organized the snowboarding and men’s and women’s alpine giant slalom events. Numerous notable western U.S. ski areas include Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Heavenly and Squaw Valley, California; Taos, New Mexico and Sun Valley, Idaho.
