IMCC Newsletter 29 Friday, 16 th September 2016 Grandparents’ Day On Wednesday, 14 th September the College recognised the contribution Grandparents make to the lives of our students. The Year 7 students met their Grandparents and gave them a tour of the College. This included a welcome by the College Principal, Mr Marshall and a viewing of the Art Exhibition, as well as visiting the Year 7 classrooms where Grandparents engaged with the students about what school was like back in their day. They also observed classes in the Paul Rafter Centre as well as taking in the sights of Irene McCormack Catholic College. Thank you to Mr Kevin O’Brien, Head of Religious Education and Mrs Michelle Smith, Dean of Year 7 for their organisation of this special event. Grandparents’ Day

On Wednesday, 14th September the College recognised the contribution Grandparents make to the lives of our students. The Year 7 students met their Grandparents and gave them a tour of the College. Art Exhibition The official opening of the 2016 Exhibition was held on the evening of Tuesday, 13th September. Over 300 works were on display from Visual Arts, Dimensional Design, Graphics, Metalwork and Woodwork. This year’s exhibition was displayed in the Paul Rafter Centre, with a dedicated space that allowed for premium viewing of all the work. Students, parents, staff and invited guests enjoyed browsing through the space, acknowledging all our students’ creativity and hard work throughout the year.

Our special guest, Mr John Quigley MLA and our Principal, Mr Rob Marshall, were honoured to present the highest achieving student in each year group with an award. ACC Athletics Carnival The ACC ‘D’ Division Athletics Carnival was held on Monday, 12th September at the State Athletics Stadium in Mt Claremont. This year over 110 students from the College competed in various track and field events against seven other schools from around Western Australia.

The students did a magnificent job in their events, and Irene McCormack finished in 4th position on overall aggregate points on the day. The Senior Boys finished first in overall aggregate points thanks to some exceptional performances. We had several outstanding individual results on the day. The following students performed well in their age divisions. Carnevale Students in the Year 7 and 8 Rock Bands and the Junior Elite Dance Team took to the stage at Forrest Place, Perth on Thursday, 8th September as part of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival Carnevale. All groups performed really well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to perform live in the city. Thank you to Miss Bakker, Miss Christie and Mr Mirco for lending their support and accompanying the students.

Graduation, Sports & Arts Photo Day

The Graduation, Sports and Arts Photo Day will take place on Thursday, 22nd September in the Paul Rafter Centre. These photos will be taken by FotoWorks. Students are reminded to wear full winter uniform with blazer and tights for girls. Please ensure uniform and hair is neat and tidy as per the College Uniform Policy on Page 10 of the Student Planner. There will be no practical PE lessons on this day. Students are to meet their coaches in the Paul Rafter Centre at the start of each respective period.

Gaelic Football The Year 9 Physical Education classes were given a master class in Gaelic Football from WA Development Coach, Mr Gerry Crowley. Students were taught the fundamental skills of Gaelic Football and then given the opportunity to practice these in a modified game situation.

Year 12 Sport and Recreation On Friday, 9th September the Year 12 Sport and Recreation students assisted Somerley Primary School with their Sports Carnival. Uniform Shop All students are required to wear summer uniform at the start of Term 4. Please check student uniforms for sizing. All orders for blazers must be completed by Thursday, 6th October. Summer uniform Girls - Dress, white turnover socks, hat/cap, black lace-up shoes. Boys - Grey shorts, short sleeved white shirt, light marle grey socks, hat/cap, black lace-up shoes. Cheer leading shirts are now available for purchase. Please place AFL Academy and Soccer uniform orders for 2017 before 6th October. There is limited sizing left for 2017. Good quality track pants in child’s size 8 youth and 10 youth (without the school logo) are for sale at a bargain $20 each. On Tuesdays the Uniform Shop is open during lunch and on Thursdays during recess, enabling students to make purchases. The last trading day of Term 3 is Thursday, 22nd September from 8.00am-1.30pm (extended trading). The Uniform Shop will reopen in Term 4 on Tuesday, 11th October from 8.00am-10.00am and noon to 4.00pm for extended trading.
