Across Campus Grand Valley Review Seeks Literary Contributions
There is still time to submit items to be included in the fall issue of the Grand Valley Review.
The collection of articles, fiction, poetry, and book reviews, written by GVSU faculty and staff, is published twice yearly by the English Department. For this issue, theeditors also welcome responses to the Spring 1988 Symposium topic "Whither Grand Valley state University?"
Copy deadline is September 15. Manuscripts must be submitted in a hard copy format and on computer disks. (Disks will be returned.) Send submissions to the editors, Grand Valley Review, 101 Lake Superior Hall.
Donation of FAX Machine Speeds Communication
Hovinga Business Systems has donated a Facsimile Transmission (FAX) machine to GVSU. The unit is in operation at the L.V. Eberhard Center. The university has also purchased a desktop FAX machine, which has been installed in the Service Building on the Allendale campus.
The Grand Valley Forum is published every Monday during the academic year and biweekly during the summer by the Public Relations Office. Copy deadline is the Tuesday noon prior to publication. FAX machines convert hard copy images to electronic signals which are then transferred along · telephone lines to any destination that has a FAX machine to receive the signal.
Details regarding charges for the service and sending procedures are available from the Customer Service Center in the Service Building, extension 3000; and the Information Desk at the Eberhard Center, extension 6601.
Family Day to Feature Variety of Activities
Saturday, September 24, will be Family Day 1988 at GVSU. students are being encouraged to invite their families to campus for a day of activities planned just for them.
The day will begin with a continental breakfast served in Kirkhof Center. There will be a craft fair in the Field House lobby throughout the day; a morning jazz band performance; a student housing open house; and a golfing contest.
Visitors are also invited to attend the football game and two women's volleyball games in the afternoon, followed by a post-game reception.

Evening entertainment will feature "The Magic and Illusion of Higa" in Louis Armstrong Theatre at 8 p.m.
WordPerfect Users to Meet There will be a meeting for
all GVSU WordPerfect users on Thursday, September 22, at 3: 30 p.m. in the Manitou Hall microcomputer lab. The topics of the meeting will be "Conversion of an NBI document to WordPerfect" and "Making a Sub-directory in WordPerfect. 11 Anyone who uses WordPerfect is invited to come and to bring work samples done on WordPerfect, reference materials they have found helpful, and ideas for future topics.
A steering committee is planning more users' meetings and needs ideas for subjects to cover. Call any of the following committee members for input or information:

Weeknight Local Show Lineup Begins
GVSU athletics, cooking tips, and "advice from the experts" are new additions to the local programming schedule in WGVU/ WGVK's fall lineup. Beginning September 12, Monday through Friday at 7: 30 p.m., viewers of channels 35/52 will see programs designed for a wide range of interests.
MONDAY
"GVSports", a new series featuring a review of Grand Valley state University athletics, interviews with coaches and players, and weekly game high-
lights, premieres September 12. Christopher Barbee, a reporter for WGVU-FM, hosts the series. Barbee is a recent graduate of GVSU and worked on WGVU-TV Is weekly sports series "Press Pass" while a student at the university.
TUESDAY
"Michigan Journal" returns for a new season, airing biweekly beginning September 13. The magazine-style series cover• people, places and events in Michigan and opens with a journey aboard the D. J. Angus, Grand Valley State's aquatic research vessel. Other topics

Alternate Tuesdays beginning September 20, Karin Orr, food columnist for the Grand Rapids Press hosts a new series tentatively titled "The Cooking Show." Orr offers new recipes, cooking tips, and ways to trim your food budget .
WEDNESDAY Host Dick Nelson returns with
a new season of "Press Pass" on September 14, covering collegiate and professional sports around the state. The season premiere features an interview with Detroit Lions quarterback Chuck Long .
THURSDAY Beginning September 15, WOOD
Radio personality Gary Allen hosts a new call-in program, "Ask the ... " Each week viewers have the opportunity to phone in their questions to a rotating lineup of guest experts in fields such as law, medicine, finance and animal care. Guest professionals for September include lawyers (9/15), doctors (9/22) and certified public accountants (9/29).
FRIDAY "West Michigan Week," the
weekly local news analysis series, moves to a new time with a new host. Greg Moceri, assignment editor for WZZM-TV, moderates the series, which now airs Fridays at 7:30 p.m. starting September 16.
Also airing in September are two locally produced specials on Hispanic residents of west Michigan. "Educacion," airing Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. (repeats September 17 at 5:30 p.m.), examines Hispanic education in west Michigan . The celebration of Mexican Independence Day (September 16) by the west Michigan Hispanic community is featured in "La Celebracion De Independencia," Thursday, September 22, at 6: 30 p.m. (repeats September 24 at
5:30 p.m . ). The program looks at the culture of the Mexican people -- the food, the family,

Faculty Sketches Gretchen Garner, associate
professor of communications, has a one-person exhibition of her landscape photographs on display at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago through October 19. The exhibit is a series of photographs of birch trees made between 1986 and 1988.
On September 7, Garner lectured at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, in conjunction with her exhibition titled "Reclaiming Paradise: American Women Photograph the Land."
