Hello from the Commodores Corner. This year seems to be flying by fast! The dock committee has done an outstanding job in getting our docks and finger piers completed in time for the Bill Hargraves fishing rodeo. I want to thank all the dock committee and club members for their hard work. A special thank you to Dan Clark for his help and for the help of his skilled employees while operating the equipment to get the pilings picked up and loaded into the roll off dumpsters. I also want to thank Tim Parker/Containers, Inc. for providing us with the roll off at no cost to the club. Also want to thank MaryAnn and the entire staff and all the member volunteers who worked to make the Beach Party a huge success. We had great food and drinks and music. Vic Peavy did a great job as usual and we discovered that we have a lot of talent in the club when it comes to dancing and singing. We still have a few wet slips available on the east and west sides of the marina and a few dry slips as well. If you need a slip contact our Rear Commodore, Rick Walker or MaryAnn, our club manager. We will be working on some signs soon to help control trailer and vehicle parking and boat parking on and around the dock and pier. As the traffic increases, it is important that everyone obeys the rules and operates safely. Be sure to mark your calendars for the up coming events. See you at the club and on the water.

The Vice’s Voice

The lazy, hazy days of Summer are officially here, along with sodas, and hot dogs, and beer--isn't there a song about that somewhere? We're kicking off the occasion with our annual July 4 fireworks display. It is a special kind of experience to be on our beach or back deck as the show goes on right over your head. It is made even better by not having to fight traffic, find a parking spot, and end watching it the pyrotechnics from a distance. Plus, you get the added bonus of easy access to the Club's facilities. We'll be checking Anthony Sclease's hands afterwards to make sure he still has all ten of his fingers. You're a brave man, Anthony! Mary Ann, Chef Kim, Kathy and their crews have been doing an outstanding job of providing our Club members with the services and products you have been asking for. It is impossible to please everybody, but they sure as the dickens try. We want to make GLYC your favorite "go to" place, so if you have suggestions for improvements, write them down on the comment cards. That's what they are there for! See you at our Club! BILL HARGREAVES FISHING RODEO

What a great fun weekend we had for the 48th annual rodeo. We had 99 anglers registered in the Open Division and countless juniors weighed in their catch at the scales during the weekend. I want to thank all the members who supported the event by purchasing advertising or sponsoring prizes. I hope you were there to see the children’s smiling faces when they got their award. We also had a great Executive Committee who has been working hard since January to put together the resources and planning to make the tournament a success. And certainly, we cannot forget those great volunteers who come out and work the weekend for us during the event. Lastly, but certainly not least, I must recognize our great GLYC staff for all the hard work and additional time expended making sure that all of our members, participants in the event and guests received first class treatment and service throughout the weekend. Simple words don’t seem sufficient but please know that we appreciate very much all the help and thank each and everyone of you very, very much!

Hello everyone and I hope all is well. June was a great month at GLYC. We were able to get the dock back

together and we had a safe and productive Rodeo. Work continues on the electric service for the dock in addition to new

water service lines. The new electrical pedestals are due in at any time and should be worth the wait. If you are wondering

why the big trailer continues to set out front it is necessary to store our new electrical equipment and our contractor still

needs it due to a delay in the new pedestals arriving. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out to prepare for Tropical Storm Alberto. We took out the

blowout panels in record time and also ensured that the rest of the grounds were ready for the storm. Luckily TS Alberto

didn’t come this way and we avoided more damage.

We still have wet slips available for long term use for boats of many sizes. However, we would like to bring your

attention to the slips that are designated for transient use only. As you walk out onto the pier the first slip on the left, or

east side, and the first two slips on the right side, or west, are transient use only and no boats or vessels should be parked

in these slips overnight.

Thank you to everyone who continues to volunteer their time for the club. All of your efforts are appreciated.

A discussion was held by the Board con-cerning the use of electronic cigarettes in the Club. It was decided that we would continue the policy of all smok-ing, including “vaping,” be conducted outside the Club house.

Reminder - $25 Minimum Monthly Fee for Bar/Galley

Please be aware that the Grand Lagoon Yacht Club

imposes a $25 minimum monthly fee for the bar/galley. This means that each “member number” must spend a minimum of $25 each month for this fee to be waived. Example: A member spends $10 for the month on either bar or galley but has not met the monthly minimum of $25. This member will be as-sessed the $25 minimum monthly fee on their next invoice.

Trivia Night

Where are a snail's reproductive organs? You would know the answer

to that and other interesting questions if you had been one of the 22

people who played GLYC Trivia. The winning team once again was the

BABS (Bad A** B*****s). Only 2 points behind was Team Sexy

Ladies. The West End Gang had a very decent showing at only 3 points

out of the lead, and Doug And Me brought up the rear. Due to a schedule

conflict, July's Trivia will be on the second Thursday instead of the third

Thursday. So, bring your team out on the 12th and see if you can unseat

the reigning champions. Only $10 a team, no limit on how many players

per. Caution: sometimes the bigger the team, the harder it is to come to

an answer. See you on the 12th.

June's Bunco had the smallest attendance in some time, but what the

16 players lacked in numbers, they more than made up in enthusiasm! Big-

gest Loser was Pat Holtz, and Last Bunco was Countess Guiles. Countess

also had Most Buncos. Half and Half was shared by Joan Ferry and Emma

Robinson. Second Place went to Dean Hoffman and C. J. Bordlon, and Most

Wins to Lara Keefe and Cindy Ness. Be sure to come out July 5 for another

Kells Hetherington for School Board, District 2 Election August 28th

I'm Kells Hetherington and I need your help in my race for school board in Escam-bia County's 2nd District. My wife Alison and I are proud GLYC members, and I love sailing my Sunfish in Big Lagoon every weekend that I possibly can. But this race is important enough to take time away from the waterfront. Here's why: Our school district is the seventh worst in the entire state of Florida and that impacts all of us either directly through a student we have in the school system or through land values that are negatively impacted by the poor performance of our schools. Here is what you can expect from me as a school board member: I will work to control our 360 million dollar budget and cut programs that are not working. I will work to en-sure our students are graduating with real life skills and training that will help them obtain jobs in the local economy. I will advocate an expansion of our middle and high school career academies, and bring back trade skills such as welding, plumbing and woodworking. In the last six weeks, Alison and I have met over 1300 voters go-ing door to door. Hopefully I will get a chance knock on your door before Primary Day on August 28th, but if we don't meet before then, please help me win this very important election. HOUSE RULES

ALL MEMBERS MUST: 1. Register their guests and be accountable for their conduct. Guest MUST be accompanied by the house member.

2. Be appropriately dressed in the club. No bathing suits, tank tops, or bare feet in the clubhouse. Be at least casually dressed in

good taste during the dining room hours.

3. Observe current opening and closing hours as posted.

4. Refrain from offensive language, conduct, or intoxication. (if offensive, a member may be asked to leave the premises by club

management or on duty personnel and is expected to do so at once)

5. Refrain from going behind the bar or entering the galley during operation or otherwise interfering with bar/galley functions.

6. Purchase all alcoholic beverages to be consumed on premises from the bar.

7. Be accountable for the conduct of their children. Children are not allowed at the bar other than the service station for the

purchase of soft drinks or other sundries. They must leave the area immediately after their purchase.

8. Refrain from littering on the premises.

9. Members are accountable for their pets and their conduct. Pets must be on a short leash at all times. No pets allowed in the

clubhouse or on the upper clubhouse deck.

10. Do not take club property (eg. glassware, china, silverware, etc.) beyond the dock.

11. Refrain from smoking, including e-tobacco products or “vaping”, or use of all other tobacco products inside the clubhouse.

MEMBERS SHOULD BE AWARE: 1. These rules are enforceable by any board member, manager, or Flag Officer present.

2. Any previous member who has left The Club NOT in good standing cannot be a guest of another member.

3. Delinquency in financial obligations will result in denial of club privileges and possible expulsion from The Club.

4. Any complaints, requests, or suggestions must be directed to The Board in writing.

5. Violations of any of the above rules will result in action by the Board of Governors concerning the member(s) involved. The

member(s) will be allowed a hearing and the Board of Governors action may be appealed. However, if the member(s) in

question is on the Board, he/she will not be allowed to vote in the appeal.

6. Rules will be posted at all times.
