Lower salad bar includes in order: Iceberg/Romaine with Red Cabbage and Tomato, Red Beans, Baby Corn, Bean Sprouts, Zucchini, Beets, Mushrooms, 3 Bean, Squash, Olives, Garbanzo Beans, Broccoli, Carrots, Green Peppers, Red Peppers, Celery. It starts in the morning about 9 a.m., after breakfast, in the kitchen at the chopping table. Garden fresh vegetables are stacked up then peeled, sliced, diced, segmented, shredded, iced and presented with condiments in a variety salad bar for lunch. O, yes and again about 3 p.m., after lunch,the peeling, slicing, dicing, segmenting, shredding, icing and presenting yet another variety salad bar for dinner. Does anyone remember all that work? Below are two fresh garden variety salad bars of the day and a list of ingredients. Healthy California eating at the Granada, everyday. Salad Dressings include: Vinegarette Ranch Russian and Crispy Noodles

Dolores, the Granada resident of the month, wasraised in Cumberland, in the mountains of westMaryland, 35 miles from the Mason-Dixon Line.The chief industries of the area are textiles, rubberproducts and coal mining. Dolores served in theNavy WAVES 1950-56 during the Korean War andattained the rank of Yoman 3rd class, then in 1958moved to San Francisco . After a brief timeworking for Baldwin Piano at 312 Sutter Street,Dolores started a career in the Federal Governmentat the IRS (internal revenue service) and INS(immigration and naturalization service) and finallythe SBA (small business administration) untilretirement in 1991.

When Delores retired she lived at Geary and TaylorStreets and knew the Granada because she oftenpassed by. "I would wondered what it would belike, community life and schedules in exchange forisolation and loneliness." So she decided to movein and what a surprise! "The nutritious food, plusmy favorite, ice cream and active people every-where, just like myself." Rosa is her favorite maid,"she takes special care to make sure I'm pleased."

"I plan to stay here at the Granada indefinitelybecause I like to travel and here I can leave andreturn to everything in place, it's wonderful! Mylast trip was to South America for 20 days." Wellwe think you are pretty wonderful too, DoloresFletcher and look forward tothe continued favor of yourcompany here at theGranada.

The dining room carpetingwas finished in record timeand so now we are goingto recarpet the lobby.Thanks for yourcontinued patience. Didyou notice the newtreatments to the windowsin the lobby? I look in at ahappy hour last week andeveryone looked quitecomfortable in a goodlooking setting andenjoying themselves withhors d'oeurves andcocktails.

Labor Day picnic, afavorite, is here to remindus of those beautifulpensions. The holidaysare coming up so ifanyone has a suggestionfor fun, let me hear it.

My two daughters havereturned to University andmy oldest who isgraduating from UCBerkeley is now applyingto graduate school atColumbia and Rutgers.Now I feel a little lonelywithout my girls by myside, but I guess most ofyou know about that.

Ron Minoso is well know as a front deskclerk.What might not be known is his "other" life. Ronwas born in Kent, England in 1980 and came to theU.S. in 1986. His grandfather, a 3rd generationmartial artist from India, started training Ron whenhe was 9 years old, competitions began at 16.

On August 28th in Kansas City, Ron won anothertrophy at the U.S. Amateur Boxing Tournament, the

largesttournament inthe world, afterstair steppinghis waythrough majorcompetitionsacross the westwinning over50 trophies.Ron's goal in torepresent Indiain the 2004Olympics.

Dan Lovett has been here at the Granada sinceJanuary 2002. He was born and raised in NewOrleans, Louisiana and attended undergraduateschool at Georgetown University in WashingtonD.C.. Following Georgewtown he was a JesuitSeminarian at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Seminary inRehobeth Beach, Deleware. Dan moved toSan Francisco in 1990 and taught elementary

school at the Cathedral Hill Montessorial Schoolfor five years. He decided to go to nursing schoolat the University of San Francisco where he got hisLVN and his RN while working up the street at oursister property the Broadmoor. In 2000 he decidedto go to graduate school to earn his nursepractitioner degree and moved back to NewOrleans to attend Tulane University MedicalSchool. Even though he enjoyed being near hisfamily he came home again to San Francisco andtransferred to the University of California MedicalSchool.

Dan is the Granada morning room service attendantand also a part-time maitre'd in the dining room atlunchtime. Afterwards he attends his classes at UCMed and does his internship at SF GeneralHospital where he works as an administrator in theemergency room, a job he says keeps him on histoes constantly. We know you are "on your toes"here at the Granada that why you've been declaredthe Granada Employee of the Month.
