Grammar: Used to X Would (‘d)
Childhood is a stage of life where people are most in motion, whether through play,
whether it be through sports.
In pairs, talk about what kind of games or sports did you use to practice
in childhood or youth.

Discuss:
a) Besides being good for health, which another benefit the sport or physical activity brings to people?
b) With the Olympic Games in Brazil, do you think that the Brazilians are more concerned with practicing physical activity?
c) Everywhere these days, it can see that people are increasingly connected with the technology: smartphones, tablets, laptops etc ... How to make this kind of person become interested in sports?
2016 is a special year for the brazilians, because it is the year in which the
Olympic Games will take place in the country.
Both are connected to the past, connected to something that was done with frequency, a
habit, action or state that existed before
In the oral practice, it is common that users/speakers start their speeches with "used to" and keep talking with "would".
The relative pronoun "When" is used to specify the point in time where the action
took place.
Used to X Would
Affirmative sentence:When I was young, I used to swim every
morning.Interrogative sentence:
Did you use to fly a kite when you were a child?
Negative sentence:When I was a student, I didn´t use to
exercise.
Grammar
We use would mainly to:
talk about the past talk about the future in the past express the conditional mood
We also use would for other functions, such as:
expressing desire, polite requests and questions, opinion or hope, wish and regret
Examples:
I used to travel a lot with my parents. I’d love the hotels and amusement parks!
Even as a boy, he knew that he would succeed in life.
I thought it would rain so I brought my umbrella.
Ann: I used to exercise a lot when I was a child. I would like to go jogging and play volleyball, But I had to stop...
Matthew: Me either... I used to play soccer three times a week, and I’d like to go cycling for twenty minutes. But now, I only can “raise forks”...
Ann: Yeah... I Know how to live this way... But... Do you rememberEdward, the guy who was my fitness trainer? I still have his phone number! How
about I get a message to him? So he trains us again!
Matthew: Good idea, but be careful you do not spend hours in whatsapp forgetting the main purpose!
Ann: Okay, Matt, I will not forget it!
