Topics for today
*Topic 1
*Would/ Used to
• There are two different ways to talk about past habits. You can use "used to" or "would" to describe actions that you did repeatedly in the past.
ExampleI used to go to the
river with my family when I was a child.
I would play the piano when I was 6 years old, but now I’m unable to do it.

*Topic 2
*Should have + past participle
Should combines with the perfect infinitive to form should have + past participle when we want to talk about past events that did not happen, but should have happened. We are talking about an expectation and referring back
to past time.
Should have + past participle
You shouldn’t have come to the party. You missed a great time.
I should have studied for the partial exam. I will get a good grade.
*Topic 3
*To be able to + verb
"Be able to" is possible in all tenses - but "can" is
possible only in the present and "could" is possible only
in the past for ability. In addition, "can" and "could"
have no infinitive form.
We use be able to express ability. "Able" is an adjective meaning: having the power,
skill or means to do something. If we say "I am
able to swim", it is like saying "I can swim". We
sometimes use "be able to" instead of "can" or "could"
for ability.
My brother gave me tickets, so I was able to see the game in person.
The boys were able to watch the soccer game live.
