Whilst on the board of Church Army his contributions always stemmed from his experience as an evangelist and from his enormous gift for enabling others to flourish in evangelism. One of the key tests of holiness is that a person is able to produce joy around them. Graham could. Graham, like all the best and most experienced evangelists, seemed to remain young at heart. What is a rarer and more precious gift, is that he allowed those around him to feel young at heart too.” The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell

Obituary

Graham Nunn8 June, 1955 - 6 June, 2021

Born on the 8th June 1955 in Gillingham to Derick and Cathleen Nunn, Graham grew up with his sister Susan attended Primary School in Twydall and later St Margaret’s Secondary School. From a young age though he was ‘free spirited’ and often would opt for self-directed learning, catching a train to London and visiting the museums.

On leaving school he took a local job at Masson’s Neon Factory as a shop floor apprentice. It was here that he met his friend Howard and Graham joined his very first folk band ‘Glad’s Trad’. The band was organised by an elderly lady called Gladice who worked with ‘remedial children’ at St John Fisher School and they practiced in her house and she was their ‘caller’ at the Barn Dances and Ceilidh’s they played at.

Graham then joined the Post Office where he ended up driving the ‘big lorries’ which he enjoyed immensely. It was during this time that he met and married Claire who encouraged him to start going to church through playing his guitar in the Sunday School. It was at All Saints Murston Graham became a Christian and was inspired to join the Church Army and began his training in 1989 and later serving in St Peter’s Bexhill as Youth Evangelist, Youth and Children’s Evangelist at Holy Trinity Bearstead, Canterbury Children’s Missioner and lay worker at Loose and Lady Wooten’s Green in Canterbury.

Far more than a ‘evangelist’, Graham adored his family Claire, Elaine and David and enjoyed his time with friends at the local golf club. Not only was he a Captain in the Church Army but also the local bowls club and routinely enjoyed the sport and social life there.

Graham lived out his life as best he could, with purpose, love and joy and now, as he rests in eternal peace so should we, the best we can.

PSALM 23The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures;he leads me beside still waters;

he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths

for his name’s sake.Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I fear no evil;for you are with me;

your rod and your staff— they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
