2010 Council on Legislation approved the addition of a fifth Avenue of Service: New Generations

New Generations joins Club Service Vocational Service Community Service International Service

The Avenue of New Generations recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.

Mission Statement

To assist the development of young people up to the age of 30 years, through a variety of community Youth Programmes, by improving their life skills and optimising their potential, while recognising their individuality and diversity.

Developing a Club Programme

Goals Develop effective relationships with schools, youth

groups, youth programmes and Police in our community Identify projects that will enhance participants self

development and safety Host an inbound and outbound exchange student

Implementation Plan Review youth projects for relevance Prepare budget for youth activities Seek out youth projects

District Youth Committee

The District Governor-Nominee maintains oversight of all District Youth activities.

District Youth Coordinators

The District has a strong Youth support team To ensure that Club personnel have access

to all information on Youth programmes and the ability to plan, seek approval and implement chosen support

These Rotarians and agencies assist with both details of their programmes and support during the application process.

initiatives

Steps to take to pursue the project

1. Potential projects 1. Identify local community needs and

match with Rotary programmes 2. Be familiar with programmes and

seek participants from suitable Youth in your area

3. Primary schools, colleges and Youth support agencies can be a good source of young people worthy of assistance

4. Seek support from Rotary’s District 9940 Youth support resources

3. The process to gain approval

1. It is likely that any support and associated expenditure will require approval of the Club Directors

2. When seeking approval, full details of the proposal - costs of the support and the value of the support to the recipient

3. Provide a clear indication of the timing when payment will be required

4. Provide a clear indication of any additional support required (e.g. the need to appoint a Counsellor for Youth exchange programmes)

5. Understand application deadlines for some programmes

6. Club applications for enrolment in Youth support programmes may be subject to a further interview/assessment by the District Committee

7. Applicants should be informed of the process

4. Implementing the project

1. When Club approval has been received, plan method of implementation

2. Advise recipient that Rotary is prepared to support them3. Ensure recipient is advised of complete details of the level of

support.

5. Promoting your achievements

1. Advise the Bulletin Editor of the details for inclusion in Club Bulletin

2. Liaise with Rotarian responsible for Public Relations to prepare a press release for local daily papers or community newspapers

3. Identify any other public relations opportunities
