After 5 years of general surgery residency, 3 years of plastic surgery residency, and 1 year of craniofacial fellowship, I am both excited and proud to finally realize my dream of becoming a pediatric craniofacial plastic surgeon. Even more remarkable is that I have been able to do so with my wife, who is also a resident surgeon, at my side during this process. After graduating from university, Kriti Mohan spent a year performing basic science research in a Howard Hughes scientific laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine with her culminating accomplishment being a publication in the journal Cell. During medical school, she had the privilege of spending time in Vietnam treating burn victims and assisting with their reconstructive procedures. In residency, she had an active interest in guiding women into the field of surgery and participated in the founding of a group providing support and mentorship for women interested in the field of Plastic Surgery. Given her interest in nonsurgical alternatives as an adjunct to surgical procedures, during her chief year of residency, she began an injectables program to supply botox and facial fillers gratis to the division for the education of residents. This program will continue yearly in the Division of Plastic Surgery for the purpose of training residents in proper aesthetic techniques.

GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

We are focused on training and educating the next generation of surgeons and surgeon-scientists. Our dynamic educational programs are built upon a strong foundation of an outstanding faculty and a highly qualified cadre of fellows and residents who in turn offer their time and attention to our junior trainees and students. Every year, this experience has led to the development of an ever stronger residency program and the recruitment of a growing class of enthusiastic medical students turning towards careers in surgery.

RESIDENCIES

Each of our residencies is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as well as its respective Residency Review Committees. These programs have maintained full continued accreditation status after each Residency Review Committee site visit.

FELLOWSHIPS

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery also offers training through non-accredited fellowship programs, which are approved by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. These programs provide further training to surgeons in their chosen fields of specialization. Fellows continue to achieve the goals of their respective programs each year, and to further contribute to the well-being of the communities they serve.
