The addendum to the graduate catalog of Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology is prepared by the office of public affairs in consultation with other departments.

ENROLLMENT SERVICES

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTSMinimum requirements include: a high schooldiploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED)or equivalent, and proficiency in English asdetermined by high school transcripts, ScholasticAptitude Test (SAT), American College Test(ACT) or an English Language Proficiency Exam. Prospective students who completed secondaryeducation outside of the U.S. may present nationalschool leaving certificates (including: CXC, GCE,“O” and “A” levels, Bagrut, Abitur, IB, Attestat,French Baccalaureat, etc.) for consideration. ANACES approval evaluation may be required todeterminate a foreign credentials authenticity aequivalency in the U.S. Academic and technical aptitudes are requiredin varying degrees for different programs. Ingeneral, bachelor of science (BS) and associate inapplied science (AAS) courses depend uponacademic abilities, and the associate inoccupational studies (AOS) focuses more ontechnical aptitude. All BS applicants who havecompleted fewer than 24 post-secondary college oruniversity credits must submit results of the SAT 1reasoning exam or ACT exam. These results mustbe less than five years old. Vaughn requires that all applicants take theAccuplacer Assessment Test, which is administered at the College, to determine courseplacement. (Students who received a score above500 on the math and/or critical reading sectionof the SAT reasoning exam, or equivalent scoreon the ACT exam, are not required to sit for theplacement test.) Transfer students with applicablecollege credit are also exempt from the Accuplacer,as are students in the Aviation Training Institute. The Accuplacer Assessment Test is an approvedAbility to Benefit (ATB) exam and is required forstudents who do not have a high school diploma orits equivalent from a United States high school andwho are seeking financial aid awards under NewYork State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).Students subject to the ATB exam requirementwill be notified by their admissions counselorand referred to the Student Success Center foradministration.

College TranscriptsCollege transcripts are required of all applicantswho are seeking transfer credit for workcompleted at another regionally accredited collegeor university. Official transcripts noting anycoursework from each institution you attendedmust be filed with the office of admissions.Transfer students who have completed theireducation in the US and have earned in excess of24 semester hours of credit following completionof the high school diploma are not required tosubmit high school transcripts, but must submitproof of high school graduation (in the formof a final high school transcript, diploma orGED certificate).International students, or students whoattended college outside the US must submittheir transcripts for evaluation to any NationalAssociation of Credential Evaluation Services(NACES) approved organization. The evaluationsmust then be forwarded to the office of admissions.Only NACES approved organization evaluationsof college-level credit will be accepted whenconsidering college transfer credit. The evaluationagency must indicate that the institution hasaccreditation equivalent to that of institutionsrecognized as accredited by the United StatesDepartment of Education.English-language translations are not sufficient.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICANTS

International applicants should visit theinternational student section of Vaughn’s website,www.vaughn.edu, to read and download thelatest information and forms. The InternationalApplication Supplement and Instructions should bethe first document you review.Applicants who have completed their secondaryeducation in other countries are required to submitNACES evaluated copies of their records, inEnglish. A fluent use of English, both written andspoken, is required and must be substantiated inone of the following ways:

1. An English Proficiency Certificate from anacceptable agency (e.g., the Test of Englishas a Foreign Language (TOEFL) orInternational English Language Testing System(IELTS)).2. The completion of the equivalent of fourAmerican secondary school units in formalEnglish instruction.3. Students transferring from other Americaninstitutions must submit credentials thatdescribe the admissions action and theiracademic progress at that institution. Vaughn College reserves the right to require astudent educated in another country to completeadditional instruction in English if his/herperformance so indicates.Citizens of other countries who plan to studyunder F-1 visa regulations may be acceptedonly for full-time study, must have sufficientfinancial resources to fund their education withoutworking in the US and must comply with F-1visa requirements. The American Consulate inthe prospective student’s home country should becontacted regarding financial assistance programsavailable through governmental agencies.The application for admission (with the required$40 US fee), as well as the international applicationsupplement, is to be filed at least 90 days before thestart of the academic semester for which you areenrolling. The office of admissions will not reviewany international application submitted without theappropriate application fee.

FINANCES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

All financial arrangements must be completedbefore departing for the US. Students whotransfer to Vaughn from other institutions mustfile evidence of financial support directly with theadmissions office. An international student accepted for admissionis required to submit a nonrefundable tuitiondeposit of $600 US to reserve a place amongthe entering class. Once the affidavit of supportand other proof of financial ability have beenreceived, the College will issue a completedcertificate of eligibility (Form I-20) to thestudent. This certificate must be presented to anAmerican Consulate in order to obtain the studentclassification F visa.

First-year international students must paytuition and fees in full by the first day of classes.In subsequent years, they are permitted toparticipate in the College’s deferred payment plan.Students who fail to regularly meet their financialcommitment after joining a payment plan will beimmediately removed from the program. Students with F visas who transfer from otherAmerican institutions should notify Vaughn’sadmissions office of this change upon applying.The College then will assist these students inprocessing the required government notification.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

While Vaughn does not make any preadmissioninquiries about disabilities, applicants who requireaccommodations due to a disability are encouragedto confer with the admissions office after theyreceive notification of acceptance. The Title 504 and Americans with DisabilitiesAct compliance officer at the College is theexecutive director of the student success center.

LOCKER RENTAL

A limited number of lockers are available for rentfrom the office of student affairs. Students havethe option to rent per semester or per academic year. Fees are $15 per semester, $20 for both the fall and spring semesters, $15 for both summer sessions and $35 for the entire year. MGT560 – AVIATION LAW AND REGULATIONS – 3 creditsThe course examines the initiation, formulation and implementation of aviation public policies and their effects upon the various segments of the industry—airports in particular. It introduces various regulatory issues related to scheduled air carriers, general aviation and airport operations. Air traffic control and international agreements are analyzed. It introduces regulatory agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as well as domestic and international aviation organizations such as the International CivilAviation Organization (ICAO).

MGT575 – AVIATION ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES – 3 creditsThis course is an in-depth study of the environmental concerns within the aviation industry and how policy and decision makers can implement effective strategies toward compatibility between the aviation industry and its environment. The course covers methods of managing the environmental effects of aviation. It presents various environmental issues faced by an airport, including legal and regulatory aspects, noise, pollution, weather and the ways that airport management can deal with various environmental situations ethically and profitably

By public transportation: Take the E or F train to Roosevelt Avenue—Jackson Heights (express stop) or the No. 7 train to 74th Street—Broadway (local stop), then take the Q33 LaGuardia Airport bus to the College at 87th Street or the Q48 Marine Air Terminal bus from Main Street, Flushing.

The M60 bus is a local service between Morningside Heights, Manhattan and LaGuardia Airport, Queens. The bus leaves from Broadway and West 106th Street, proceeds north on Broadway and then east on 125th Street. It crosses the Robert F.
