THINGS I LIKE Create a descriptive list of your favourite things that are connected to the five human senses (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell).

Include a variety of things, such as foods, textures, colours, sounds, etc. Narrow your list to your top 10. Be sure that you have at least one example for each of the five human senses.

Begin writing about each of your top 10 likes. Focus on using descriptive vocabulary and avoid mentioning the sense word in the description. For example, avoid writing, “the sweet taste of ice cream,” and instead write, “the rich creamy sweetness of ice cream on a hot summer’s day.”

Edit your work and ensure that you use descriptive language to engage the senses of the reader. Publish your list using any format you like.

WATER FOOTPRINTRead about Your Water Footprint.

Read the article: “Denim production is incredibly polluting. Jeans makers are trying to clean up their act.”

Choose a consumable product, preferably something that you use regularly.

Investigate and determine the water footprint of the consumable product.

Create a scale model of the amount of water used in the production of the product.

Develop a equation that includes a drawing of the item and the amount of water involved. For example, one pair of jeans = 7,600 litres of water.

Write or record a reflection about what you have learned, and the importance of awareness of water consumption in the production of goods.

Use the links below to review land use types and typical land use patters. Types of Land Uses: Recreational, Transport, Agricultural, Residential and Commercial

Urban Land Use

Consider what types of land use are complimentary. For example, there should be institutional and recreational land near residential land.

Think about how to make communities more livable. How can land be organized so that it is healthier to live, work, and play? Use grid paper or a computer program such as GeoGebra to plan a community that reflects the approximate land use percentages. Use a legend to show each land use type. Give your community a title and write a brief explanation justifying your decisions.
