Rapid Writing Challenge
Today we are taking some key details from
the prompt below and turning them in to a
piece of free writing. We have used these
prompts in class, and you need to make sure
you include (and elaborate on) the key
details while writing in the style listed:
Remember: Clever writers ‘show, don’t tell’.
Show that your orangutan is handsome and
loves painting murals without telling your
readers “there was a handsome orangutan
who loved painting murals...”
We are continuing to look at 24-hour time and
the converting between the am and pm time
units.
The above timeline shows each hour in the am
and pm, matched with it’s 24-hour equivalent,
Using this table, and recap on yesterday’s
video or lessons (go back on the learning from
home page and click on Thursday’s program).
Today complete week sheet 1, you need to
convert all the 12 hour times for the security
guard to 24-hour time, then calculate the
changes in in time based the information
given. Finally complete the television guide
with 24-hour times and the length of each
program.
Specialist Catch-up For today’s Inquiry session you have the
chance to complete any of the Specialist
activities you have not done so far this
week. These are found directly under the
Grade 6 daily learning tasks on the
Bellbridge website.
Specialist activities for grade 6 are Auslan,
PE, Art and STEM. You should be attempting
to fit one of these in each day after your
other learning tasks. We know sometimes is
it hard to fit them all in so today is to catch
up with those activities you have not
completed.
Some weeks we may tell you to complete a
certain activity for this session. However,
for today you may choose the order of the
Specialist activities you are working on.
Remember you can answer today’s questions
while you read the chapter or at the end.
Don’t forget to respond using RACE.
For example: It was always like this. All he
wanted to do was paint, but he could barely
get a moment of peace. As soon as he woke
up, the other orangutans would line up and
try to say something cute, clever or funny...
They were all so boring! He didn’t like boring
– he liked beautiful, and so he must paint.
Do we still know they are handsome?
Do we still know they are an orangutan?
Do we still know they love to paint?
Yes, yes and yes! But we described our key
details instead of just stating them.
You should be aiming for half-a-page of
writing in an exercise book or one creative
PowerPoint slide on your netbook, using
strong sentences and proper paragraphs to
elaborate on the key details from the
prompt.
Each Specialist subject has a folder in our
Teams classroom. You are expected to
upload any work required to the correct
specialist folder for that week. Make you
have your full name on the work when you
save it.
Too hard? Too hard? Too hard? Too hard?
Complete each question as best that you can.
Read along with your teacher by listening to
your chapter’s audio.
If you’re not sure how to describe a day in the life of your main character today, just write any type of story that includes all of the other key details about them from the prompt.
You will be converting 12-hour to 24-hour
time today. Revisit how to do this from
yesterday’s video and looked at the example
on the top of your worksheet 2.
(Remember 24-hour time has 4 digits with
nothing separating them).
You can ask a question to your classroom
teacher in Teams or to your specialist
through chat, if you are unsure.
Too easy? Too easy? Too easy? Too easy?
Make sure that you have followed RACE.
Check that you have included multiple pieces
of evidence to support your answer and that
you have explained the evidence.
Today is all about creating complex
sentences in your writing. Remember: That’s
a sentence with one independent clause and
at least one other dependent clause.
For example: Despite being the most eligible
bachelor in the jungle, he was only interested
in painting.
Today you will be looking at elapsed time of a
stop watch. Stopwatches measure time to
within hundredths of a second, and before
digital clocks needed to show parts of a
second using analogue faces.
Read through each question and complete
worksheet 3.
Ensure observations are detailed. Complete
to the best of your ability.
Don’t have _________? Don’t have _________? Don’t have _________? Don’t have _________?
Don’t have access to your class novel? Respond to one of the following questions for your own independent reading book. Make sure you use text evidence in your response. - Describe one event that has happened and why it is significant for your book. - What do you predict will happen next in your book and why do you think that? - Write a summary of the main events from the chapter you have read today.
No extra materials or resources are required
for this lesson. You can complete this on your
netbook in a Word document, or in an
exercise book if you have equipment at
home.
