Invitation

Method: Vocabulary drillThis is a method to use when avoiding to send learners all alone down the bumpy, muddy path known as challenging text a road booby trapped with difficult vocabulary words. However, this does not mean giving learners a dozen of words to look up in the dictionary, rather use a fun and interesting manner to have them know the terms before the lesson puzzle. Why this method?Students lose interest Arrives them at falling asleep, cause ruckus Encourage deep learning Free learners to explore new words and their meanings Also helps with pronunciation Help learners becomes comfortable with the language

What is climate changeClimate refers to the average weather experienced over a long period. The earths Climate has changed many times in response to natural causes. Our climate Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Climate change is often confused with global warming and weather, the following clarify their differences :

Climate changeClimate only changes over a longer period of time. Many animals and plants need one kind of climate to survive , for example Dolphins and Palm trees need a hot climate , Polar Bears and spruce trees need a cold Climate.

WeatherWeather is daily (day to day) and happens usually over a small period of time. For example sun, rain, hail, snow, wind, cloud, fog (haze) and thunder and lightning.

Global warmingKnapp B (2000) simply defines it as a recent increase in the worlds temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases in the atmosphere.

CausesNatural causesVolcanic eruptions Ocean currentsEarth orbital changesSolar variation Human causesGreenhouse gasesDeforestationCoal miningBurning of fossil fuelsIndustrial processes (CO2)AgricultureSources of emission (transportation)

Quick quiz Answer true or false to the following: Climate change is the same as global warming?Climate change is caused by humans only?Climate change is a recent phenomena?Climate consist of 6 season?

Method: Show, tell & involve

Tell me I forget, show and I remember, involve me and I understand.Ever been interrupted by someone while you are trying to explain to them by saying just show me ?!Why this method?Tell- provide learners with key information related to their learning (facts, concepts, rules, procedures) Show- Demonstrating examples of the lessonDo- After examples provision, give your learners opportunity to do what you have just taught them Apply- Learners plan out how they will apply their knowledge in their own environments

Closure

Method: Small group In groups of five, learners are expected to make a presentation of ten minutes, detailing the causes of climate changes and the benefits of recycling. (20 Marks)RequirementsEach individual to presentProve of the contributorsUse of equipment's if necessaryPresentation should be of a max of 3 minutes

Why this method?allows students to become active participants in their learningexposes students to diverse ideas and approachesacknowledges and utilises individual students' strengths and expertisethrough discussion, helps students articulate their ideas, refine concepts and develop interpersonal and communication skillsfacilitates a deeper understanding of course content

Questions from Loughran article2. Why is it important for the students to know this? You control climate change so this is to inform you to turn down, switch off, recycle and walk.

6. Other factors that Influence your teaching of this idea? The science cannot fully be understood many attempts to educate the public or kids about climate change have relied on scare tactics that focus on super storms, massive floods just to generate fear. Misconception between terms ( Climate change, global warming & weather , temperature)
